Battlegrounds would both solve alot of problems, and probably bring more new players in. It's about time EQ2 started to work out a battleground system. The game engine itself is so much better than wow, or vanguard, let's see it implemented more creatively.

Why no? It doesnt make sense for a character to not gain expierience, <i><b>when expieriencing PvP everyday</b></i>, now does it? Think about how absurd that is, the character, and players are certainly expieriencing things in game, and XP should be attached to reflect thier prowess and and history on that toon. Only lame [Removed for Content] gankers can't see the sense in this. You could log in a battleground and fight all you want.

That's just dumb thinking there. If they want to PvP on thier little baby toons give them a battleground. That way the people trying to get to end game, where classes and gear level out alittle more can do so without some idiot who has been using the same tired [Removed for Content] three CAs to gank noobs for the last 6 months.

Sluglord 12-10-2007 05:13 PM

The reason I'm still playing EQ2, and have (again) cancelled my WoW account, is open-field, world PvP. My Mage at the level cap in WoW can't find PvP in the world to save his life because the Battlegrounds and Arenas have sucked up all of the PvP. Instead of a sort of RPG war going on, you have a continual cycle of sporting events masquerading as PvP. Fine for some, but nowhere near as fun as world PvP on my (now 73) Warlock on Venekor (or my 30-somethings on Naggy). <div></div><div>The problem with Battlegrounds of any sort is that once they are in, even if it's only to draw off level lockers, you'd end up with a gradual shift of PvP out of the world because the rewards, being more concentrated and reliable, would provide an incentive. Most gamers are going to go where the return on investment is highest, and if you could rack up fame, faction, and tokens in a fishbowl setting I think people would do it. Some might be happy with that but I know I wouldn't, nor would most of the folks I play with.</div><div></div><div>Ganking is not the world's worst problem. If you've been on a PvP server in EQ2 since launch, you lived through all aspects of the system, the highs and the lows. On Qeynos side, Venekor, we went through a period where we were grossly outnumbered and got slaughtered in Antonica. It eventually evened out quite a bit, maybe too much. On Naggy Freeps in DLW often have to endure x2s camping the fair, but you eventually level out of it. PvP servers are not not meant for the easily frustrated.</div><div></div><div>Yes, I agree there is an issue with new players on the PvP servers having trouble with the level locking and ganking. The solution should be to make level locking less appealing, and make leveling up more appealing, if possible. But the PvP audience is not going to grow by leaps and bounds no matter what you do. And the way it might "grow," in theory, would actually kill the PvP game--by making it just like WoW's pseudo-PvP, which is essentially capture the flag with elves. </div><div></div><div>I don't want to sound trite, but PvP in EQ2 IMO should not ever be pushed towards the lowest common denominator, nor should SoE try to make it more mainstream. We have three servers, counting Vox, and while evening out the populations wouldn't be bad, I don't really see any need for any attempts to bring lots more in. I'd rather have a smaller but savvy population that knows that when you get ganked, you rez and either gank back or find another place to quest. The worm turns, and tomorrow it's your turn to roll the undergeared, the underleveled, or the underskilled. YMMV</div>

Danato 12-10-2007 05:37 PM

bgs ruined a certain other game's pvp. trust me, you DON'T want bg's

Amphibia 12-10-2007 06:01 PM

No thanks. This is world PvP, battlegrounds will kill it.

seejester 12-10-2007 07:22 PM

<span style="font-size: small;color: #00ff00;">In a PvP server like Nagafen, PvP rules add two elements to the game.1. The ability to hunt other players.2. The extra danger of being attacked by something other than a simple AI.Many of us on the PvP servers play specifically for these two things. Though there are bugs a plenty and many things that need to be refined in the game, IMO the overall nature of EQ2 PvP should NOT be changed.I don't want a special zone for pvp, that's what the arenas are for. It's a dangerous world out there, and there are those who want you dead. Just the way I like it, thank you very much.</span>

Kulharr 12-10-2007 08:15 PM

No, bad idea.  That just moves pvp out of the open world into condensed side zones, which is lame in my opinion... Rather then creating new zones for battle grounds.  Just add some type of battle ground qualities in the existing zones with objections and goals that are not sololy based and ganking as many people as possible to be rewarded...

wellehad0 12-10-2007 08:31 PM

<p>see we will never get anywhere do nobody wants to meet in the middle both sides want it all and nothing else.....</p><p>so what if battlegrounds ruin world PVP.. so does exp from pvp.......</p><p>only other way i could even think of a middleground is take all T2 zones and make them NON PVP zones... since i guess all the cryers try to blame this all on T2 and thinks it will only hurt T2 then why not jsut take out T2 PVP... by T3 every class is almost dead even..</p>

Kulharr 12-10-2007 08:55 PM

<p>There have been many good suggestions made that the majority of people agree on, but this is not one of them.</p>

Snowlywhite 12-10-2007 09:28 PM

I could name at least 2 mmos with bgs which are 10 times more balanced then this one and overall pvp is much betterI play here simply because sometimes bg pvp just gets boring... no thrill, no hunt, much more tactics way less surprises. Here... stay on your toes; many times it compensates the lack of polish.

Vlahkmaak 12-10-2007 09:40 PM

<p>I would not like to see a battle ground added - I much prefer open world pvp.  Level lockers do not concern me - I ahve ben able to level many toons through t2: yhea sometimes you just cannot go grind in FG becuase a grp of Q scouts are working it - GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.  Level lockers are not ruining the game.  Whats ruining the game is the lack of BEASTLORDS!!!!  More classes = more pvp options (they are NEVER gonna really beat predator scouts with the nerf stick they are stick up summoner ahhrses so that lame excuse "when every thing else is fixed" crapola don't hold).   Give us what we want on PVP servers - more ways to kill each other, bluebies dont have to worry about their precious predefined raid set up - RED servers are overcoming those old misconceptions so please just give us Beastlords.</p>

HerbertWalker 12-10-2007 10:17 PM

<p>heh beastlords are cool, but there are simpler, more immediate ways to provide "more ways to kill each other."</p><p>Such as... boosting the crappiest solo pvp classes, so that they actually might pose a threat.</p><p>If tomorrow, Guardians were boosted to middle of the pack in terms of pvp soloability, I'd play my overpowered wizard a lot less - for a diverse play experience.   If Mystics were boosted to middle of the pack, I'd play my Mystic.   It would be fun to see less predator/rogue/sorceror/druids.</p><p>There are only a couple of ways to play the game and not be frusterated.    I just don't want to play a ranger 24/7, but I still do want to have the amount of solo fun rangers can have.   Why can't Summoners be dangerous solo?   That's a beastlord.</p>

Possibly the worst idea ever. If there were battlegrounds then I might as well go play WoW where they not only have battlegrounds, but there doesn't seem to be a population problem either.

<p>Battlegrounds---no</p><p>Noobgrounds??  --- maybe,  but there already are, ie lvl 1-9</p><p>if the new players need more time, then put something in that affects them ONLY.  Let them go talk to there trainer who tells them "are u sure u wanna do out and fight pvp?  you seem like a noob, maybe you should practice some more!"   or maybe something less sarcastic would suffice also.</p>

Greenlander 12-11-2007 06:22 AM

Yikes when I read the title of this thread I felt a black pit forming in my stomach...but I'm glad to see other people around here have some sense reading the responses.BGs ruin world pvp. I don't think anyone really debates that.  MMO's are about creating a character and playing him in a persistent world; MMO pvp should be about those characters killing each other in that world, not about depopulating that world for the sake of the pale and half-[Removed for Content] imitation of an action game that is instanced pvp. While I am not a huge fan of level locking and lowbie farming, I'm not certain I want to get rid of it entirely, and certainly not for the price of keeping them locked up in battlegrounds.  Hell, when I am trying to harvest and no one is trying to gank me...I get bored. But to the poster who said pvp exp would ruin world pvp the same way a battleground would, I disagree.  This will interfere mostly with tier 2 lockers who do nothing but twink and kill the unexperienced, unprepared new players.  If we are lucky it will mitigate the grief experienced by new people while spreading the intense pvping out into other tiers, and I think it's definitely worth a try.  I think it's definitely going to change some stuff, yeah, but ruin it?  I've kind of always wanted to play a game where you could exp by killing other players.  Any locker who doesn't see exp as just a new reward for pvping, and who doesn't welcomes the challenge of bringing their game to higher tiers with more skilled and better prepared opponents--well, that's sort of weak imo and I don't feel too bad for em.   That being said I've never complained about how they play now...that's their choice and I'm glad they've been able to exercise it thus far.  Maybe things should be a little easier on new people, but having such a hard-knock introduction to eq2 pvp wasn't necessarily all bad imo either.   Anyway  it's not like it's the end of the world.  People willing to put some time into it can easily twink a toon the whole way up and always only exp on pvp kills.  I don't see how this won't be as enjoyable as locking at 16 or whatever...I mean god at least you would get to see some new zones every so often.  And if someone can't stand the idea of losing their static, overpowered toon that never changes or goes anywhere new but just sits killing the same less skilled people over and over--I highly suggest you look into some action games or fps's or something of the sort because I think they'll offer you more of what you want than an mmorpg will.  I'd hate to see the pvp population diminish in any way, but if I had to choose I'd rather lose the lockers and gain new players excited to level and pvp in every tier.  So I guess it's a risk (the anarchy that is tier 2 will be diluted) but I think it's a good one to take. But the post was about battlegrounds mainly.  And I think BGs would be devastating for eq2.  Sure some people would like it, but those people have other games available to them.  I'd rather sony continue to hold their market niche as an alternative (and a far superior one) than try to imitate its competition in the misguided implementation of instanced bgs.   Do or don't address balance issues, do or don't address locking/griefing, I don't really care, but don't try to instance pvp and ruin the great persistent world we already have to fight in, even if it's not always perfect. My two cents.  P.S. I came to eq2 for the world pvp, and I should add that I'm new to the game myself (I have gotten one toon through t2 and I have two more at 13 and 10 still working on their spells/gear/tradeskills) so it's true I don't know everything about eq2 pvp mechanics yet, but I have played many other mmorpgs and have always been an avid world-pvp'er.  And I know something about instanced pvps...my wow toon sits around collecting dust unless I want to raid him; the closest thing I can get to world pvp is stealthing into stormwind and ganking people leaving bgs who are pvp flagged...I was ganked only once 1-70 (everyone is in too much of a rush to reach cap and do arenas or raid) and once you hit level cap their is no reason whatsoever to not be in an instance, whether you pve or pvp.  Meh.  Why design a huge virtual world if there is nothing to do in it except bypass it as fast as you possibly can?

Hmm I wouldn't want battlegrounds. However if the Devs hosted an arena event every so often where people could enter a FFA PVP arena match (level specific like between -2 to +2 difference, like 50-100  players just duke it out, no groups, just each man for himself. That would rock. No one could leave or run, so you would have to stay and fight and show who truly is the best.
