There are a number of ways you can change shape via illusion. The Mask of the Deceiver is one I use - I'm a big strapping Halasian lass, and I use the Dark ELf illusion provided by the mask to make my form show much smaller if I'm gonna be in small twisty tunnels, or visiting halfling homes. Petrified Eyes also allow you to cast an illusion form. You get these turning in bone collection quests (or checp on the broker) and you use the eye + one bone of that same species to enact the change. Certain totem spells I believe also do a shape-shift illusion. In any of these cases, you must go to EQ2 --> Persona and make sure you don't have "Hide Illusions" checked.

The only exception is illusionists have some group illusion spells they can use for fun (like turn the entire group into gnolls).
