I am concerned that me going two handed sword over sword and shield combo might hurt my tanking ability alot or my ability to get into a group without them feeling the need of having a shield weilder.

<DIV>Well not having a shield will greatly lower your AC , </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I suggest when you solo to use a 2 handed sword , and when your grouped use 1+shield, </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>bare in mind that while wielding a shield you have a higher chance to hold Agro , which is what no.1 for any tank .</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>if you have another Tank and want to play some support/DPS use a 2 handed .</DIV>

<DIV>Why don't you carry along both and use the one you need depending on situation ? I's not like buying a 1h and  a shield would break anyone bank and, imo, they are both needed.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>2h is cooler and does quite a bit of more dps not only becouse of their base damage but even more becouse, like I discovered testing a new spell of mine, the base damage of your weapon affects the damage of your spells/attacks. At least it affects oah strike damage for sure. Also at higher lvl, when a shield is not a must any more for tanking, more and more ppl prefer to use a slow hard hitting weapon becouse less hits = less riposte damage, and riposte damage hurts.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>On the other hand, when using a good shield, you take A LOT less damage. I's not only the ACs but even more the blocks that are usefull, since we have a nice shield buff in Knight Stance. Your dps will probably slow down tho, as the typical 1h is faster but with a lower base damage then a 2h. It's true that with a faster weapon misses hurt less your dps, but my parses say that the most of my damage come from spells/attacks and not from the weapon itself so is more important what I wrote above about spells/attacks then misses.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>You really can't have the best of both worlds so, most of us, just carry along both sets and use one or another depending of the needings.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The only exception I found is maybe Starfall, as this weapon is a slow middle/hard hitting 1h weapon that is close enough to a 2h and still allows you to use a shield. But, to my knoledge, there are not many similar weapons around.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Good hunting and be safe !</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Brancaleone</DIV>

Since both 2H and 1H use the same skill, you can switch between each one at any time without losing any effectiveness. I generally solo with the 2H but use 1H/Shield when grouping.

<DIV>What's rough is I use a mace for my 1h,  but a sword for my 2h <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> You dont lose too much tank effectiveness using a 2h over a 1h,  but the few extra misses and blocks due to your shield will definately lighten the load on your healers.  </DIV>

<DIV>I look at it the other way, since I prefer shields - I find that due to my level and available weapon options, I don't lose much dps.  Thus, I use a shield nearly exclusively, unless fighting green mobs or below.  I would assume that your equipment would greatly influence your 1hand/2hand decision, but I would recommend that you carry around both to alleviate your group concerns, as others may prefer you to use your shield.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>
