View Full Version : 27 Pally with 30gp saved up - what to get?

<DIV>OK, here's the deal. I am running around in all my AQ armor and pretty good jewelry. I am wielding Prisitine Forged Carb wepons.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The problem is, I seem to be in a dead spot at level 27 where I can't outfit any Feysteel, but my AQ stuff is aging fast, especially the first couple items like the gloves and arms.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So, here is my dillemma... should I keep ferreting away my money and then buy a full set of Fey when I hit a level where I can equip it... (30?) or is there something worth spending my hard-earned money on?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Also, most of my spells are Adept1, exect a few of the harder to find ones. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Aside from giving it to YOU... please make suggestions for how to spend my EQ2 life savings.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Lullo - 27 Pally on Butcherblock.</DIV>

<DIV>Almost exactly my dillemma.  I'm 26, and I have about 30g saved.  At average prices, a full set of feysteel is 48g.  I'm planning on just saving for that and buying it all at once when I hit 30. I'm NOT going to walk around as some half-blue-half-orange mismatched looney.  I have to be an all-blue looney.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I also need a new two hander.  I'm still using Delacar's.  Going to scrimp together enough for a fey-whatever 2-handed-whatever after the armor.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So, in the meantime, just grin and bear it.  I can tank reasonably well in TTS still, but I haven't tried anything the next tier up yet.  I imagine I'd get mashed thoroughly.  I'm just going to cling to TTS until I'm properly outfitted.</DIV>

<DIV>Yes, I found there was a "dry period" between 28-31 in terms of useful/fun items.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I'd save money for pristine feyiron armor items (usable ~30th) and spend money now to get collection quest items (e.g. bracelet of shiny shards, etc.)  It's a good time to start collecting things you can use when you are 30ish.  I found collection quests to be a good way to spend $$...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>IMO, I wouldn't spend any cash on player-made weapons as there are a number of quest/drop items which are comparable or better (feysteel, Weakened Ghoulbane, Bloodstain Hammer, etc.)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>As a side note, I found excellent questable breastplates (hint - look for a gnome in Zek), belts (Thundering Steppes), boots (Dwarven Work Boots), and rings (Enchanted Lands), so I avoided having to buy those from players/brokers.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Vaden</DIV> <DIV>34 Paladin - Butcherblock</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>Thanks for the head's up Vaden... if you ever need a Pally to give hand-me-downs to on Butcherblock... I would be happy to help take them off your hands :manvery-happy:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I'll take a look for that BP quest in Zek. Too bad I don't dare walk far from the gate yet and nobody wants to group with me yet since I can't deal much damage and I can't take much from red mobs. Guess I will need to finish some TS and SH quests and level up some to make myself useful in Zek.</DIV>

<DIV>If your using your level 20 quest sword at level 26 your seriously hindering yourself. Loosen up your purse strings and buy yourself a pristine forged Carbonite greatsword or something. The stat and damage increase is defintely worth it and you'll probably only spending about 40-60 silver on the weapon and it will EASILY last you to level 30 or 31.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>As for armor, You can equip forged Feyiron at level 26, regular feyiron at 28 and pristine at 30. Even Crude at 24 and you'll find crude feyiron probably better than most anything you can quest at the level.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Don't dismiss the player made stuff. It is usually some pretty excellent quality for a decent price.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If you have been keeping up your gathering skills, see if you can get a steel cluster and have a weaponsmith turn it into a Pristine steel weapon (better than all but the rarest of quet weaopns at level 20-30) or some Pristine Steel Vaguard armor (better than ANY armor avaialable at level 20-30).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Steel clusters ARE very rare to find but well worth it when you do. Most rare player made items have the stat bonus' of the items a full tier above them (pristine steel greatsword has the stat bonus equivalents of Pristeine Feyiron greatsword for example) and damage about half way between pristine Carbonite and pristine Feyiron.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Plus player crafted is in far greater supply and easier to get than quested stuff. And with the competition between players as they create items and level up prices are usually pretty good too due to competition.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Lastly, try to contact armorsmiths directly and see if they give a discount for buying full suits from them. Most will. Selling 7 peices at a 75% profit is better than selling none at all.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>And nothingbeats the feeling of gearing up at level 30 in really GOOD gear and not really having to worry about your stuff for a while. Sure if better drop items come around you can always upgrade and then y ou can resel the pc made gear and get some of your cash back.</DIV>

<DIV>Gil,</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I am using Pristing Forged Carb weapons now so I think my damage output is about where it should be...even if I have Swash-envy.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I like the idea of buying a whole suit from some armorsmith. I would love to be able to just slap it on when I can equip it.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I wish my mining and forresting was up to speed. I outleveled Antonica and only my harvesting is up to speed. So, I try to do some mining and forrestry work whenever I get the chance, but I just can't find a place with enough nodes to practice. So I can't mine in TS yet...bummer.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>Get yourself a sheer bone kite shield or snapper shell shield, should be able to equip now or next level. Huge AC bonus.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Keep your hearth forged until 29 or 30 then upgrade to the feyiron.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Get yourself the ebon eye breastplate from Zek - will be usable soon if not already.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I use a twisted oakwood something,  dunno the full name but it is about the best 1 hand weapon I can find even at level 30</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Get the dwarvern workboots</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Get bracelets from RoV or buy them off broker.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Spindlecogs helm is quite good also, pretty easy quest altho hunting octopi can be annoying</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

If your using your level 20 quest sword at level 26 your seriously hindering yourself. My Berik's outdamaged every 1h feyiron/steel I bought in parses simply due to the proc.. I stopped using it only at 32 when better weapons were available. Berik's is VERY good for its level.

<DIV>Check your magic affinity for player crafted jewelry options in tier 4.  Crude requires 120, shaped 130, fashioned 140 and pristine 150.  I dinged 28 Paladin last night and I'm currently wearing my own (31 Jeweler) shaped velium rings and bracelets.  As soon as I get time this evening, i'll swap out the 4 shaped pieces to fashioned now that I have the 140 skill requirement.  Note, the AC boost is actually identical at my level to tier 3 pristine artisan crafted.  However, the stat modifiers are much nicer and the resistances are uber.  I made note that both my heat and cold resists are over 1100 at Paladin level 28.  Likewise, I'm yet to replace my earring, necklace or belt.  I will upgrade those paths as my Jeweler skills increase.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I really enjoyed dinging 28 Paladin as it opened new jewelry opportunities, the ability to replace my Ancient Kite Shield (253 AC green con but best in tier 3) with the Snapper Shell Kite Shield (~358 AC now and rises to 417 @ 33).  Please note, post patch tier 4 shield statistics changed dramatically.  IMO, pre patch the Feysteel Kite Shield was top notch.  However, post patch, the stats on the Snapper Shell Kite Shield are identical to the Sheer Bone Kite Shield, except the Snapper caps at level 33 while the Sheer Bone caps at 35.  At level 27 Paladin, I could not equip the Snapper Shell, but you can at 28 <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />  Likewise, both the Snapper Shell and Sheer Bone have the shiny white shield graphic on your toon which I feel is appropriate for at least my Pally.  The Feysteel Kite Shield now requires a much higher level for use, has a new graphic in your inventory, and appears with a design that is more bland, IMO then the other "shiny" shields.  I still can not for another level or two equip the Sheer Bone Kite, yet I reap many of it's benefits via the Snapper Shell Kite right now.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Building a relationship with a crafter will greatly lower the cost of the tier 4 armor you desire.  I have been trading my 31 Jeweler goods plus feyiron buckles, studs, etc. for forged versions of feyiron vanguard.  The cool effect of finally seeing a big armor upgrade, new shield, new toon look, etc. was simply amazing last night.  Couple that with the 28 Paladin spell and an Adept 1 upgrade and I just can't wait to play tonight!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I'm in a minor delima at the moment considering future weapon upgrades.  I'm currently wielding the Dwarven Sword of Cleansing (uber against undead mobs - blue lightning drops from the sky and attacks all grouped mobs at random as you solo--the sword has placed mobs in the red on health before I've cycled through to them--loot drop from firemyst gully in antonica).  I have had no luck obtaining the Sword of Thunder and since I recently completed Zek's quest and obtained the Bloodstained Hammer, I've been considering options for future weapon upgrades.  I have always been a huge fan of the shield/1-hand option especially for groups.  However, as far as I can tell, the bloodstained hammer will be my next big move even though I tend to enjoy swords more.  Do NOT fall into the same trap I have been working through the past few nights.  My slashing skill was capped for my level while my crushing skill was in the low 40's or 1/4 of what it could have been.  Anticipating the migration to the bloodstained hammer, I purchased a simple pristine forged carbonite hammer to increase my crushing skills.  I'm now about 120 of 160ish for my skill level.  If you plan on taking the same road, study your skills and start practicing where you lack <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Good luck!</DIV> <DIV>Kalen</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>I forgot to mention that I only have feyiron vanguard so far in a helmet, chest and pants.  I'll be working out a few more deals tonight with my armor crafter for shoulders, bracers, gloves and boots.  I can't wait to see the additional increase in both AC and especially resistances.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I have joined groups several times that have been worried about the new Paladin being one level lower then the previous tank.  However, I have likewise had healers send me tells saying something along the lines that even though my AC is close to the last tank they are having to heal me fewer times.  I attribute this to the bonus orange con jewelry I'm wearing where even a single piece may include a single resistance of over 200!  I see the words "Resisted" pop up over my head all through TS and Nek fighting both white and yellow 2 ups.  Many of the Paladins I examine have uber armor (orange or red con to me) and gray con jeweler!  Spend that coin guys or hit me up on Najena and we'll work something out!  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I would also like to elaborate a little more on trading for goods.  If you craft, you have something another player needs!  Join the crafting channel and strike up deals.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I have been making poison vials and glasses for Alchemist who in return have been making me app 4 spell upgrades for everything I use (and don't use for that matter).  After all my spells were upgraded, I started trading some jewelry pieces and more interdependent crafted goods for inks to make my Jeweler runes (spell upgrades for Scout classes).  The armorsmith I'm working with now is also a Paladin so we've been trading armor for jewelry and other goods as appropriate.  He supplied me the other night with all the components to make 100 feyiron buckles.  Of course when I was finished I had no product to sell, but the trade was that I earned a full level of crafting XP at no cost via resources, liquids or fuels from my purse.  I understand coin is sometimes hard to come by but where there's a will there's a way and working out trades with other players will certainly open another avenue of upgrades as well as build many new friends!  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thanks,</DIV> <DIV>Kalen</DIV>
