Hello all. I am a level 36 SK and have soloed his entire life. I plan on joining a guild tonight on Nek server, however, my lack of ever grouping will involve some training. I am researching anything that has to do with a SK role in groups so i don't look like a total [Removed for Content]. My questions are...

1. Where is the best place to solo at my level?

2. Any advise for me?

Thanks for any help you can throw my way.

Hi Plixar,My SK is only currently level 30, but I do have a 50 Paladin and 45 Ranger. The late 30s are a bit of a tedious time, IMO. I spent my low 30s (with both higher-level chars) in the EL, so when I ventured over to Zek around 35/36, all those quests found on the docks/in the fort took me to 36-38 between the discovery XP, quest XP, and Combat XP.The Feerrot is a land I personally don't care too much for, but there are a great many quests available near the zone in (the circle of NPCs to the right of the path after going through the tunnel offer quite a few - as does Reza the ratonga). Again, I despise the zone because of all the grouped, chain-stunning mobs and the jungle theme - but there is XP to be had there. When you get to 38-39, you might want to hit the zone-in of Everfrost for the occasional change-up. Most MOBs will be a bit high for you at that level, but wandering wolves will be doable - in additon to some discovery XP. Rivervale is another changeup area you might consider. That's the strategy I used to get both of my upper-level chars to around 40-41, when the Sinking Sands then became an option. If you throw in the OCCASIONAL group in RE - it can go by pretty smoothly, but I mostly did those levels solo.

Off the top of my head, at 36 you can do the following solo:

- Splitpaw Saga (if you have the adventure pack)

- Zek (lots of things to do there solo, but also easy to get a group there in my experience)

- Enchanted Lands (same as Zek)

- The areas of Feerott near the beach and down the tunnel from the docks into the jungle

Group adventuring ideas:

- Runnyeye (in EL)

- Rivervale (in EL)

- Zek mines (in Zek)

- Lower Varsoons (in Thundering Steppes)

Basic grouping concepts as main tank:

- use a one-hander and shield

- use defensive stance if you take too much damage

- pull with group taunt

- make sure to have your lifetap aura up (adds to taunt)

- make sure to complete one full Heroic Opportunity before your DPS classes go to town.

- make sure any Combat Art or Spell that has a taunt component is at least Adept 1

- move your AoE attack hotkey away from all other keys (particularly in dungeons)

- never pull when healer is AFK

- never pull when healer is Low on Power

- pan camera around alot so you can watch for adds/spawns

- use your shield stun to interrupt casters/healers or buy yourself time if your priest is unable to heal you momentarily.

-always keep an eye on the priests's health bar

- focus on taking out enemy healers, dps classes and tanks out, in that order.

- make a macro to announce your pulls

/g On your toes, a %t is angry and coming this way!

(the %t is a wildcard, and will insert the name of whatever critter you have targeted)

- If you are the tank, most folks expect you to lead or take the initiative in leading the group through the dungeon, timing pulls, ordering rests to recover health/power, and finding good places to fight or pull to. If you are new to a dungeon, or not sure what you are doing, make sure to communicat that and allow another to take lead role, while you tank only. Just to let you know, tanks have a very active role in groups, as do healers - in fact, tanks bear some of the greatest responsibility in the group. That can be either disconcerting, or exhilerating. Personally, I like to be in charge and make a successful dungeon run happen!

- if you have a mezzing class (enchanter, coercer, swashy, bruiser, etc) who is mezzing, do not tab through targets while your auto attack is on. You will break mezz when you shift past a mezzed target. Either turn off auto attack to tab shift targets, or manually use your mouse to find a new one.

- aggro management is everyone's business. If you have a wizard or assassin stealing aggro because they unload all their damage right at the start of the fight, you will need to ask them to wait til you get the mob to about 80% of health before going gangbuster. The more experience you get in a group, the better you will get a feel for aggro management, so it takes time.

- mistakes will happen, the priest will on occasion die, etc. Don't let it get you down. It is a learning experience.

- have fun !

Side note to add to what was said above....FD spells are your friend. You can cast them through the mob and it will FD the person the mob has targeted. It's a good way to get aggro back if the wizard/scout pulls aggro off you. Try not to FD the healer, and try not to taunt and then FD because you will end up getting aggro and FDing your self!Rescue taunt (lower level) Keep this handy. It has a 5 min recast, but it will help you snap aggro back if you lose it.HT used as an aggro gain ability like rescue/FD is also a viable option, don't worry about wasting it to get aggro. You get to use it again in 15 min.

Message Edited by Uggliey on 03-16-200602:54 PM
