<DIV>Alright, currently HT is a resistable disease damage attack on a 30 minute timer.  I myself use it for extreme emergencies only, and I live in fear of the day it fails when I'm trying to save myself from debt.  So after some thought, I came up with some possible adjustments to HT that would hopefully improve the ability without seriously imbalancing the game.  First though, what we <EM>shouldn't </EM>do:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>1. Make it unresistable.  As it currently stands, making it unresistable would open the door for massive exploitation, leading to what many have termed "one-shot" kills.  This is unacceptable.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>2. Reduce the timer.  Same problem, makes it more of a regular feature in combat, increasing our DPS beyond acceptable limits.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Now, I propose HT's nature be changed.  This is the seething outpouring of hatred and loathing that we summon from the depths after all.  Instead of doing damage by numbers, why not damage by <EM>percentages?</EM>  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>In this manner, HT could either do say... 25-50% damage to a creature's current lifebar, and not be able to kill it, or 10-20% damage to a creature's maximum lifebar, and only kill it if it was below the lowest threshold of the spell.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I know I said earlier that HT, as it is now, shouldn't be unresistable.  Yet it seems to me that if HT cannot kill, there's no reason to make it unresistable.  We could avoid "one-shot" kills by forcing an effect on the creature that makes it immune to HTs for a reasonable timer, enough so that only the nastiest monsters would ever receive two of these in one encounter.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I'd like to hear the community's thoughts on this concept.</DIV>

<DIV>I prefer its current use.  As much as some don't seem to like it the way it is currently implemented, I find that it has helped me a countless number of times.  I don't use it as an emergency damage spell as I don't feel it is meant to be used in that way.  I see it more as an occasional outburst of pure hatred towards the target that causes you to deal a massive amount of damage.  It needs to have a hit-check to make sure that monsters have the possibility of resisting just as they have the possibility of resisting a caster's damage spell or a scout's backstabbing ability.  I like how I basically have a 300+ dmg ability that I can kick off every 30 mins.  I tend to use it when we get an overpull and want to make sure the group will be safe by killing off one of the monsters as quickly as possible.  I also use it to regain aggro if someone has managed to take it away.  It usually doesn't stay up for more than 3 or 4 mins as within that time, I have usually found a reason to put it to use.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I do agree that possibly having it scale upwards as we level might be necessary.  I don't know if it currently does but at lvl 22 with app 3, I do around 300-400 dmg I think.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If you change it to a percentage based ability it really just wouldn't make much sense as it would allow us to easily kill off some named mobs and so the devs would have to counter this by giving those monsters even more resistance to Harm Touch.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Also, I do believe that Harm Touch's resistance is probably tied to either one of our stats or one of our spell casting abilities because from the time I've had it, I think I've used it over 20 times now and maybe gotten 2 or 3 resistances and that's about it.  I tend to max out my spell abilities as soon as I level so I think it might be one of those that dictates this.  I play as a dwarven shadowknight so I have a naturally high STR, STA, and WIS.  I think I stil have low AGI and INT so those stats are possibly less likely to affect the resistance of that ability.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>My personal guess is that it is tied to our Wisdom stat.  The higher the WIS you have, the less likely it will be resisted.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If some of you have low WIS and can test this, post your results. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>
