View Full Version : A few thoughts on my SK. EQ1 vs EQ2

<DIV><FONT size=3>Hello fellow SK's!</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3>Just thought I would add a quick note about some of my observations regarding my level 19 Shadowknight/Crusader.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3>1) The Crusader quest to become a Shadowknight was very very easy. If you are level 19 you will not have any problems completing this quest alone in the serpent sewers. First, get a map of the sewers so you know which way to go. Second, you can just run down the sewer to the storage room....I didnt even have to hit the sprint button. Sure some snakes and other mobs will aggro you but if you just keep moving you will be fine. Once in the storage room attack the green mobs first. There are four (4) of them. Pull with your spell. If you get to close the Kingpin will run out of the room and you will have to do it again. Kill the greens first by the door...zone if you have to.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3>Once the greens are down do the white kingpin and his kronies. I never dropped below 50%. When you done just run or sprint back out of the sewers. Don't feel you need a group for this. Both me and my friend did it solo with out any deaths. Again at level 19 it was do-able. Go back to the militia house and get your sword. Which brings me to my next point.....</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3>2) 1HS vs 2HS. I have found that I can solo mobs much better with a 2HS than with a one hander. For example, last night, (still level 19) a friend told me there was no way to solo Foulgore in the Commons. Well...silly me...had to mess with it to find out. First 3 attempts I used my new SK 1HS weapon and a Shield at level 19. All times I got ugly Foulgore down to about 1 bubble ...then he had a super attack and almost killed me. Thank goodness I swim and run fast. On the fourth attempt I used my 2HS, buffed up, and gave good 'ol Foulgore a spanking. Got a nice rhino breast plate and then my sash when I went to redeem the quest at the militia house. </FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3>Even when my AC jumps with a shield it seems I am doing more damage per second with a 2HS while the 1HS just cant do enough damage to be in control of the fight. I have been fighting with my 2HS 90% of the time and the battles have more damage and result in me taking less damage because the fight is shorter. Also, in my opinion, the shield bash takes way too long to recycle. It was much faster in EQ1. Bashing might be good to stun a caster but the stun period short and the a long recycle time. Im not finding it an asset to use a shield but maybe that changes at 20 and above.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3>3) I levelled much faster, and died a lot less, in EQ2 than in EQ1. Levelling is pretty easy in EQ2. I do wish we had more offensive buffs instead of the group buffs. A nice DOT would be cool before 20.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3>4) I have not been grouping a lot. In fact I have solo'd the entire 19 levels. Maybe it is me but I am finding very few players who actually know "how to play". I group up, someone does something really dumb which results in a death and then I disband in disgust because of the impatience and lack of communication. So far, I have only made 5 friends, from old EQ1, who understand the game, are polite and seem knowledgable. I cannot even begin to describe some of the childish conflicts I have encountered with other players. Guess I will just wait to join a guild to group. Right now, its not worth the aggrivation in my opinion.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3>5) I am really enjoying this game and look forward to breaking 20 and exploring more areas. The world is vast, the graphics are great and so are the quests.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3>I wish all of you Happy Holidays and look forward to many hours of enjoyment.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3>Regards,</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT size=3>Level 19 Crusader soon to be ShadowNight.<BR>Toxx Server<BR></FONT></DIV>

Grouping is your friend, learn to love it. Try to get a friend grp that groups together every night. You will miss out on a lot of fun if you decide to solo through the game.

<DIV>Past 20 your going to be grouping...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Your noticing it at a later level than most as you are considered one of the better tanks in the game.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Monks, and zerks are good tanks...but SKs make better...second only to guardian in my opinion.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Whereas with my level 21 Swashbuckler...hell I can hardly kill greens with him solo now =P.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>It gets much much harder as you level, to the point where your xp gains are directly tied to the strength of your group.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Solo with my scout I can get about 1/3xp per kill on a regular basis.  With the group we travel in, I can get 1% easy.  Usually more.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I have noticed though, that with my new future SK, I can solo alot better than my scout.  However, my DPS is blatently lower.  But even as I continue to level I am noticing the curve of xp gain becoming a straight verticle line.</DIV>

<DIV>Agreed. <A href="http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/view_profile?user.id=19467" target=_blank><SPAN>N7649U</SPAN></A></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I will group when I feel comfortable. Guess when I tried grouping at the lower levels everyone was still trying to figure things out.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>My schedule is a little wacky so when I have to hang around waiting for people it burns my EQ time.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>In EQ1 I had a great guild. I will be looking hard to join a good guild on Toxx shortly.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Also, as you mentioned, I will miss out on a lot of comraidiere and fun without grouping.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Cheers.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

I can live with being the 2nd best tank. It's a good spot to be and SOE gave us some decent spells that we can toss on the main tank to make them better. When doing the level 20 quest (I did it at 1<img src="/smilies/b2eb59423fbf5fa39342041237025880.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />. I just pulled the kingpin's mob group first, killed the kingpin then finished off the rest of the flunkies. The bash skill (Unyielding Advance) is rumored to have an aggro/taunt component. When soloing, I generally also use my 2H rather then 1H+shield+KS.Suck up the deaths and learn your role in a group. (Yeah, sorry, that sounds preachy...) There are some minor differences between EQ1 & EQ2 that require getting used to, but the basics haven't changed. I sometimes duo with an enchanter so that I can practice paying attention to mezz messages and picking which mob to kill next based on what order they were mezzed.

Only thing i did differently on the SK hallmark was not attack the 4 guys. I immediately attacked the kingpin with the lightnight strike and only him and his 2 body guards came after me. So in effect I never had to kill the other 4. Though i still did for the xp.
