Just be the meatbag that we are, and take the punishment, use all your mana for maintaing aggro, and let the DPS kings dish out the damage, and the healer keeping you alive. If the rare instance when you cant regain aggro, (like mobs on a healer), Feign Death them, then a simple sheild bash or taunt should bring em right back.

If you're having to mash your taunt key, then the group is simply playing stupid instead of smart. 1) They're probably not waiting 5 seconds for you to pick a target, establish aggro and round up the mobs on incoming. You need to fix this ASAP. It's okay for you to not be the puller, but the other members of the group need to keep hands off the keyboard during the first 5 seconds of the fight. No heals, no buffs, no attacks from the time you announcing incoming (using a hotkey and /gsay) until an agreed upon point after you've started beating on the mob.2) I would bet that HOs are getting broken left and right because you're constantly having to mash the taunt key. And since aggro is bouncing all over the place, the healer is probably having to break HOs in order to keep folks alive.3) If you're mashing the taunt key just to stay on top... you've left yourself with no out. No way of suddenly increasing the amount of hate that you can generate during a 5 second window. Taunt once at the start and then learn to save that key for when things go wrong or someone makes a mistake. Otherwise, it's going to be useless and have no effect when you *do* need it.Aggro management is the responsibility of the group, not just the tank.(In bold, because some players out there seem to be missing the concept.)In the groups that I play with, we have a very simple method for pulling. It takes a mininum of communication and requires only 5 seconds before everyone else can jump in.1) Cleric casts a Heal-Over-Time spell on the tank (usually HoV)2) The Crusader wards themselves with Demonstration of Faith3) The Crusader targets a mob and announces incoming via /gsay (use a hotkey)4) Crusader attacks with a ranged spell (Righteous Anger)5) As the mobs run towards the group, the Crusader starts an HO chain6) When the mobs arrive, the Crusader uses one of the special attacks to advance the chain7) Crusader completes the chain using either Shout or Taunt Rest of group attacks once they see the completed HO wheel vanish, Crusader periodically uses their Ward spell or other special attacks as neededKey points:- Waiting for the cleric to cast HoV lets you know that the cleric is paying attention and is ready for the pull. You're no longer bring mobs back to the group, wondering if the healer snuck a ninja-AFK on you.- Announcing the pull lets everyone else know that mobs are incoming.- Doing it the same way, every time, gets people into a rhythm and results in clean, easy fights. Experimentation can resume once the group gets into a rhythm and things are going well.- Even with multiple mob fights, just warding myself periodically was enough to keep everything on me and not chasing down the (3) wizards who were letting loose with AoE spells. (We were pulling 5 mobs at a time.)

Wuphons said it. You need to cultivate a group that understands that they can't blast all out. It's way way more efficient for group members to spread out their power usage and go for high damage HOs and powers, than fire off every power they can and have to spend 3 minutes resting for the next fight. It's also key to managing aggro. If a wiz type nukes all out or an assassin uses all their high damage powers right away you'll be hard pressed to keep aggro. It's definitely a group responsibility.Cultivate a good group! Don't just go LFG and hunt with the first shmoe you invites you. Meet people who are on when you are on and play with them every time. Join a guild and make friends. Way safer and more effective for leveling and questing. You'll also have a lot more luck keeping aggro, since your crew will understand how to play with you and you with them.
Message Edited by ChaosImbued on 12-02-2004 02:00 PM
