Hey guys just moved here from WoW. I decided to start a fighter / tank because I never played one in any mmorpg. My friend recommended me to play a monk because monks were strong and "hella good". But after looking at skills and spells, bruiser skills looks interesting and tough. From reading the eq2 handbook it seems like Monk can be Prime Bruce Lee and a bruiser can be Prime Mike Tyson. Monks dodge/tank more (speedy) yet can also do some quick efficient damage and bruiser goes all out crazy beat em up style like Tyson I know this topics been mentioned many many times before but out of experience from hardcore players which class is better end game? Or are they both equal having some advantage/disadvantage? and also if there was pvp later on, who would win..??.. 50 bruiser vs 50 monk both with above average gear and experienced players Couple last questions can i be good Kerra and a bruiser at the same time? And is Kerra a good race for a bruiser? Seemed very rare on statistics webpage. btw : What is stifling or stifle and mitigation? Sorry im a newb here

Message Edited by Warlicious on 07-25-2005 07:45 PM

Message Edited by Warlicious on 07-25-2005 07:47 PM

Message Edited by Warlicious on 07-25-2005 07:47 PM

Too be honest. Until the combat changes are in place its hard to recommend anything.

If you want to have fun until then its a difference of play styles. I would give the edge to the Bruiser, simply because I have played one to 50 and I know what they can and cant do, and the cans are more numerous then the cant's. I have played a monk to 22 (I think) and been unimpressed with their solobility.

It basicly comes down to what you like. Bruiser: Only out for himself, if he's in a group he adds significantly to the groups damage (Both his damage and theirs through his offense buffs) but he doesnt really mesh into the team. Monks have many ways that directly affect the team itself, their defenses, abilty to mend others, etc.

Just go down the skills lists on the main EQ2 site and see which skill sets appeal to you more.

IMO and also in my lvl 50 monk friends opinion the bruiser would win a pvp encounter. This is mainly because of the self heal for bruisers being higher percentage an a faster recast time than the monks.

As for which one is better overall I don't think there is an answer to that. My monk friend would never play a bruiser yet she is jealous of some of our skills. I would never play a monk although I'm jealous of some of their skills. The monk is better in a group by a little tiny bit and a bruiser can solo a tiny bit better then a monk. There are trade offs and balances up and down the list. SOE has done a wonderful job IMO of making these two classes almost identical but different enough to have their own identity.
