Tier 2/3 we seem to be the best choice as MT at moment - poor platetanks!!My lvl 17 monk has 60% avoidance 40% mitigation and 1100 hps........add in master taunts and guardians etc become a joke imho.......(Now if only other classes would realise.......)

monks make good tanks in the higher tiers as well..problem is that it's becoming a popular class and when you get a ton of people playing a class the [Removed for Content]/good player ratio goes up. therefore when there's more people playing the class groups have a higher chance at selecting a [Removed for Content] monk to try and tank. that and the fact that a lot of people spec their monk strictly for dps and their tanking skills take a hit cause of it. nothing wrong with it...it's a versatile class, a jack of all trades, and to tank successfully u have to be spec'd to tank and be a much better player then a [Removed for Content] plate tank would be to pull off the same thing. gear helps but it's situational i think. basically it comes down to you having to make a name for yourself on your server that you know what you're doing and people will shut up about it. when i joined my new guild a few months ago everyone was a doubter in terms of my tanking skills...now i off tank for raids. monks have the capability

Tanking is more than agro management it is also taking damage. Monk tanks take lots of burst damage when they do take it (Speaking of raiding, monks can tank all instances just fine) the new patch will help us a great deal but we will still be taking burst damage when we do take it. The problem with this is it is very risky. You can go from full hp and a ward to 40% hp in one second. Plate tanks are easier to heal. Monks are a great spot tank. Monks are not the best choice for MT. Around level 40 (well around level 40 back b4 even DOF) we were at our peak To tank successfully you do not need to be specced to tank but you do need to be geared for it.

OK, well, I am level 50 and my AA points are STR 4-4-8 STA 3 INT 4-4-4 with a few other points thrown into the Monk specialty tree to maximize HP's and Healing. Would someone in the know be willing to take a look at my gear and let me know what they think? I Tank for an Illusionist primarilly, but I love being a MT for raids and high powered groups. I am not so much worried about DPS (119-191 Damage / 1.2 Del with bare fists and haste factored in) but I want to hold agro and take the hits (and of course look cool as a cucumber doing it!)

Please remember, no "OMG, You are using WHAT???" flames, but rather intelligent, reasonable discussion with some numbers/facts to back you up.

Thanks to all, Monks RULE!!!!!!!!!!
