There have been numerous threads on bare handed vs. weapons. Who ever you talked to must have been thinking about the str AA line that you need to be weaponless to use. You will have some nice dps once you hit 4-4-4 up to 4-4-8 in the str line, but until then use your good weapons. I was always happy with my Mastercrafted Batons until I got up high enough in lvl to use slower weapons due to haste buffs.
