Hi,I have a little taunting problem, today I (67) was grouped with a paladin (67), templar(63), ranger (x2) and a wizard(67) we were in an instance (table in pof, we were mentoring on 63) and i couldnt mange to keep aggro on the group of mob (3 mob linked), the one i had in target sticked on me but the 2 others aggroed the wizard when they were at about 30% of life. The problem is that i could keep those mob on me ... which resulted in the death of the wizard, the wizard was going full damage (i asked him :p) so we switched tank and then the paladin could keep aggro over the wizz ... thing i couldnt do.I have master2 group taunt, and adept3 single taunt and proc taunt ... so i wonders how can i keep aggro i this kind of situation ? i have no problem on single mob ... but for group it's terrible did i miss something ? paladin is better for group taunt than us ? (i looked at the parse and i did between 350-450dps while the paly was doing about 150-200dps)

The reason a paladin can do better in your specific situation is due to their spell called Amends. It transfers hate directly from who they cast it on to the paladin. I forget the percent transferred but I believe its 20%. So in your case, the paladin probably cast Amends on the wizard and was receiving a percentage of the wizards hate on top of the normal hate he can generate.

Monks do fantastic on single target, but have to work a little harder on group aggro. This probably isnt the case for everyone but its what I have encountered in my limited experience with my monk.

Message Edited by Ssaheb on 07-06-2006 03:51 PM

Yep, Amends is a really great spell for paladins, as they typically don't do enough damage to keep hate consistently throughout a fight without it. The key thing you should focus on when grouped with a paladin, let him tank. I know monks can do an effective job, but you only risk the life of your team mates if you don't. A paladin can generally hold the hate if Amends is on the wizzie, but then if the monk is tanking you are spliting the healing between you or the wizzie/paladin, whoever gets the hate out of those two. It just makes things easier for the healer if the paladin is tanking. If it was another plate tank, maybe you could handle things differently, but unless you have a really dumb plate that doesn't know how to tank, I generally leave it to them for tanking and become melee dps. I guess the other thing you can do is tell your wzzie to watch his spells, the fact that the other mobs are turning on him means that he isn't watching his own hate or aes.

50 monk here. I have dragon advance master 2. Every time my group taunt is up I hit it. In the mean time I watch for dragon advance to proc. It looks exactly the same as if you casted an actual taunt ability. Every time I see it, I change targets. I constanlty rotate through the mobs and I tell the group to keep there targets instead of trying to assist me. It's worked for me so far.

Yes, Target rotation is the easiest way to keep a group. Encounter taunt will not hold an encounter alone if you have AE dps going all out. You need to rotate for both taunt procs and single target taunts. That is, fire group taunt and single taunt on mob1, hit him for a few seconds to proc taunts till your single target taunt is back up, then cycle to mob2 and fire your single target taunt, get a few proc hits in then when single target taunt is up again cycle to mob3, fire single target taunt and by this stage your group taubt should be about up again so fire it off then cycle back to mob1.

Using this method I can usualy hold 3 mobs off a warlock if there not going crazy. Any more than 3 and the time to do a full cycle is just too slow, but should still work well for any other groups. Warlocks are the worst to keep agro from, especially in large groups.

Another thing that helps with group aggro is after you use group agro, follow up with crescent strike and dragonbreath. After a few hits, u can use ur group agro again, but usually with a good dps group, some are already dead so your probably working on the last 1 or 2 guys.

ok, amend ... i understand better so (because i can keep aggro over 2 lvl 70 swash but they have the transfert hate buff ... where the wizard has not and love fusion ... )I dont like cycling through mob (i'm too lazy for that , i dont like non stop click/tabing) but i suppose there isnt any other solution to keep aggro on all mobs I play mainly in a guild group, so it will be better if the paladin tank when the wiz is up Thanks for the advices

I am not a fan of cycling either, so my solution is to generally not group with certing classes. Monks are phenominal at single target agro, so i bring people with me who are good at single targets(brigs, assasins, necros, etc). I know its bias but it ensures that no one will really die and we can rip thought mobs really fast instead of me having to change targets all the time running after mobs that might go agro that warlock etc. Another solution is to grab a dirge or coercer, they both have a buff that increases the amount of hate you generate, and its even better when you pair either of those with good single target dps, you barley have to taunt leaving more mana for dps.
