View Full Version : "Best" Solo Fighter (for me)

Due to minimal game time and the occassional difficulty in quickly finding a group, I am looking to downsize my stable of fighters and select one to keep. I need this guy to be able to solo decently which to me means with a fair level of confidence that he won't die immediately (usually not a problem for fighters) and he can kill something in a reasonable amount of time (sometimes challenging for some fighters I think). The final piece of this puzzle would be a desire for at least some variety in tactics - not just a button smashing brainless fighter. Currently I only play Quenyos chars but would be willing to consider a Freeportian if nothing in Queynos fits my needs. Any recommendations? Thanks!

Message Edited by Dragonlord1 on 05-23-2006 10:28 PM

That would be a Monk... and no class provides you that better.

In order of solo ability...

Paladin, Bruiser...and then Monk.

Bruiser will do more damage than a Paladin however Paladin can survive longer. Bruiser can always FD if the snot hits the fan though.

Both of them are better choices than a Monk for soloing. However, if you like the idea of a brawler and want to stay in Qeynos, Monk is fine also. Just don't expect to be able to solo the same things a Bruiser or Pally can solo.

Regards,

Croaker

Time for me to disagree.

Top 4 Fighters and soloing.

1. Monk/Bruiser: I tie these two as top for one reason. They both have some really strong points. FDing your way through a zone can make life easier and get you to a mob you want to kill. Both have self heal although solo wise a bruisers is better. Tsunami is awesome for monks just make sure you have it adept 3 or master. 2 FDs for a monk. Yes one is on a 15min timer but the situation might arise when your training that you need to FD and although your first one is down and your almost dead you can use your grp FD and save your @@@. Both have well rounded dps although a bruiser wins in this category normally. Also keep in mind monk and bruisers rely on gear and combat arts upgraded. As long as you keep your stuff up to date you will be fine.

2. Shadow knights: I am basing this off of two things. Survivability: they have FD. And there life tapping wards are pretty efficient. Better dps then a pld.

3. Pally: Good class like sk can self heal and has lay on hands. This job can fight for a very long time w/o dying although the fights might take a while due to lower dps.

Just my views I have played them all weather there friends characters or an alt.

Message Edited by Prothos on 05-24-2006 10:54 AM

The only leg up I'd give a brawler over a crusader is our ability to FD very reliably. Of course anyone can follow a group to a specific spot in a zone to get to the mobs they need, but late night or on off peak times nothing beats a brawler able to FD through a zone to get to the mob they want to kill. If you are purely talking about toe to toe fighting, I truely think a paladin is the top soloer as they possess multiple means to handling health loss, possess enough DPS to finish off mobs and can take hits with plate level mitigation. Overall utility and ability to solo puts a bruiser second, and a equally equipped monk in third place but only a LITTLE bit behind a bruiser. SK's I believe fit fourth overall in ability to solo because of their ability to flop around in a zone, but lack the means for an insta self heal. When you talk about soloing, HT may drop a mob's health fast, but it doesn't help much when you have 100 HP left and an add pathed in and FD is down. If you are talking taking X mob out of a zone, with no adds, no respawn Paladins probably take the cake for toe to toe solo fighting. I still wouldn't switch because I value FD so much more.

If you are solo, plan to mainly play solo... I would never pick a Brusier over a Monk... regardless of a small amount more dps while soloing.

UTILITY is vastly important for people who like to solo more. Self invis, Tsunami, Outward Calm... We share the Instill Doubt here shortly....Capped haste, and a dps buff with correct AA.

Brusier is no comparison when you want to choose a class strictly for Utility and Soloing. Killing "faster" doesn't mean much and not many Brusiers out-dps me anyway.

Self Invis and Ability to FD twice if needed, plus some invulns... there is nothing a Brusier can attempt to say to defend against the better utility of a Monk while soloing, hands down.

I find monks as the best soloers in the game if you plan your stuns and stilfe right can kill even con ^^^heroics on my 60monk w/o going under yellow. I got the impact proc weapon on my monk which has a 10% chance to stilfe for 5.3secs i usually have mobs perma stunned and stilfed with my 75% haste. And with tsuamni alows me enough time to wait for recasts to re stun the mob. The key to soloing with monk is to use silent palm and stop auto attack so it stays the whole 12sec allowing your only spells to be used again to keep mobs stunned. I solo better with my 60monk then with my 60conj hehe

Everyone has a monk alt and so should you.

I decided to go that route and then went to broker (in Qeynos) to buy a few Adepts for the range I was gonna hit (14-19)and NADA?

I checked in the newbie range on my server 21 0-20 level Monks, 1 Swashbuckler.

That speaks to a me, a bit, about the popularity of the class.

Message Edited by Krescendo on 05-26-2006 09:23 AM
