View Full Version : Concerned Would be Monk

<DIV>Ok, here's the deal: I used to play way back when it first came out. When you picked 'Fighter' and then did a quest to be a brawler and so on. The betray quest was placed perfectly for choosing Monk if one went to Qeynos from Freeport. Now I made a character and am approaching the old betrayal Quest level again and I am concerned since I had to pick Bruiser from the list.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Can I still Betray Freeport and be a Dark Elf Monk? Will I mystically turn into a Monk once I complete the Betrayal quest? Has the Betrayal Quest changed with all these updated quests? There is tons of new content from when I last played and I am enjoying it, Freeport seems a much livlier place and the character feels more a part of it than before. I hope this is the same in Qeynos, as I really wish to play a Dark Elf Monk.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So my concerns are two-fold: Is the Betrayal Quest still level 14-17? Or did I have to do something on the new Island that I missed? Will I just magically turn into a Monk upon completing this quest?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If you have any answers to this, please let me know as I hope I haven't wasted the time it took to level this DE Bruiser on some fantasy of doing the Betrayal at 17 if it has changed.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thanks!</DIV>

<P>Well yeah I would agree with you, except I am not a brawler, I am a bruiser already. I was a bruiser from level 1. Chargen was changed from what it used to be.</P> <P>That's why I am concerned.</P>

<div>Fear not, you will still be able to complete the betrayal quests as you could previously. The only change is that when you finish the quest, all your combat arts will switch over to the monk Apprentice I versions, not matter what version you had on your bruiser (meaning don't waste your coin on upgrading your skills too much).</div>

<DIV>Ahhh thank you very much, I was worried about that and had not upgraded any combat arts, Bruisers kick serious butt anyways at pre-20 without needing to upgrade so wasn't to concerned. Even though I did loot a Master I brawler's stance too... ah well.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Oh, one curious thing, what about things I got from levelling up? Dodge and Weave for example? I have that at Master II from levelling up, seemed like it -should- be a Monk thing as well I hoped...</DIV>

<DIV>I just finished the betrayal as a dark elf defiler, now dark elf mystic. To answer your questions:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>1) You must do the quest before hitting 18. You can start the quest as late as 17, and once you are booted from Freeport you will not be allowed to level past 17 until you finish the betrayal . I believe you can have up to 220% or so into next level before your XP no longer counts. If you hit 18 prior to being booted from Freeport, you will not be able to do the betrayal quest. Rumor has it that they are changing the betrayal quest to be doable at all levels in a later patch, but no idea when that is going live.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>2) You will have to switch to monk before you can complete the betrayal quest. After finishing the confession, you will be sent to North Qeynos (or possibly Eldaar Grove in the case of a brawler) to complete one last quest: Speak to the monk trainer and give up your bruiser self to become a monk. Once you speak to the NPC and choose to become a monk, all of your combat arts will be set to monk CA's at app1. Also, you will get an automatic respec in which you will get to choose all of your Masters and racial traits anew. Your bruiser Dodge and Weave Master II will be gone and you will have new monk Master II CA's to choose from. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So, moral of the story: don't spend a fortune on upgrading your bruiser CA's if you are going to betray. You will lose them all, even the ones that are the exact same CA's as a monk, once you talk to the monk trainer. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Good luck with the betrayal! It is a fun quest! :smileywink: </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Quijana</DIV> <DIV>Lucan D'Lere</DIV>

<DIV>This may be in game, or a work in progress, iether way, another interesting thing is... you should be able to betray after youve passed 20 i believe, however it is a completely different quest, and i believe you can level up to the cap without becoming part of iether city, not positive on it however.</DIV>

<P>Well I can verify the quest doesn't work past 17. I was 17 going down into the serpent sewers, managed to slaughter my way down to the guy... the Initial quest does NOT cap you at 17! I actually dinged 18 and then the guy told me I should have talked to him sooner!!! AGH! So wallah, rerolling got to level 12 before server update this morning in one night... Thank god Bruisers are actually fairly studly with quest reward gear, heh.</P> <P>As for any other quest, I couldn't tell you. Oh well, I guess I'll just be doing the Betrayal tonight instead of last night, bleh.</P>

<DIV>*nods* Yep, that is why I said you cannot hit 18 before being booted from Freeport, or you will not be able to do the betrayal quest. I actually HAD the betrayal quest in my journal but had not been booted from Freeport yet, thought my XP would be locked, did a quest hand-in, dinged 18, and had to start from scratch. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Good luck with your betrayal,</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Quijana</DIV> <DIV>Lucan D' Lere</DIV><p>Message Edited by Jessyme on <span class=date_text>05-08-2006</span> <span class=time_text>10:43 AM</span>
