<div>I have seen some posts saying that one race might be better for a certain class and I was wondering if this was true.  I am being told that Monk is a good tank, and I like to tank, does this sound right?</div>

<div>Race really does not matter in this game.  In the early going, you might get a small advantage from one race over the other, but by mid-game, you won't really be able to tell the difference.</div><div>As for tanking, you will see tons of discussion on this topic.  My personal feeling is that a monk can be a great tank and a guardian can be a terrible one or vice versa.  It all depends on the player.  I think the monk class is great fun to play and a solid balance of tanking/utility/DPS.</div><div> </div><div> </div>

<div>Cool, I made a Guardian and I am up to lvl 10 with him, but as I started reading the boards, everywhere I looked said it sucked as a tank and monk was the way to go.  I will probably make 1 of everything sooner or later, lol.</div>

Dont listen people when they say a class sucks, they suck with the class.I play a 36 monk and I can tank awsome, there is one down side to the monk is holding more the 1 mobs attention when theres a big aoe class with you, but im sure other monks go do this fine I just need to develope more skill to do so. If you want to tank, dish out damage, and solo well go monk. So far out of my many alts this has been the most enjoyable class. Also if you want to go more on the Damage/solo side our bruiser brothers can do the trick(they can also tank well but not as good as a monk)Guardians are amazing tanks, my brother has 2 (one 55 he rerolled another and is 27) he can hold aggro like you cant believe, he has had many ppl when a group was done saying he was amazing at tanking, one person went has far as saying he could be the best tank on the server one day. But tanking is what you are meant to do, soloing can be slow.Point of this all tanks can tank if your skilled, play what seems fun to you dont listen to the whinners.<div></div>

<div></div><p>I will give you a hopefully unbiased viewpoint from someone with a guardian and a Monk.</p><p>If you want to Tank and ONLY tank and like the thought of high end game tanking i.e. more raids than casual groups.  with no soloing / solo questing etc - I would choose a Guardian</p><p>If you want to have fun , Solo , have fun , tank for duo's , have fun , tank smaller groups ,  have fun, tank for xp groups, have fun  ,  not really that fussed about being Main Tank in raiding  - I would pick a Monk.</p><p> </p><p>Ok so maybe i am a little biased againsts Guardians being fun.  But you hoepfully get the picture about when I Think its best  to choose each class.</p>

<div>I think I am kind of getting to the point where I will play both.  My brother is a Pally and we kind of grind together, but he is still hoping galaxies will turn around, so I play a lot by myself.  So I will gring the Guardian with him and do the Monk on my own.  Thanks for all the info. </div><div> </div><div>On another note, does certain armor slow us down?  I hate the little leotard thing I get to start and I found armor I can wear on the island, but its seems like I am fighting slower.</div>

<div></div><p>Armor does not affect combat or running speed at all.</p><p>What armor does (at a bare minimum) is give you mitigation (reduces damage), and affects your avoidance (chance to totally avoid an attack - heavier armors give lower avoidance than lighter armors).  Wear armor, you will want to for the benefits, and there is no adverse reason to have it.</p><p><img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p>
