View Full Version : Slash / Crush and stuff like that - Help pls
My Barbarian monk is currently 33 I'm using Toranims + Slime coated atm, obviouly both crush dmg, I have a bit of a swirl with some lowbie Cestii's and wraps to get my slashing skill up (Just found some high HP mobs and sat down for a few hours of dullness) Anyways got my slash up to around 120 odd and its slowing down a lot.I presume that getting my slashing skill is as important as the crushing skills?I spent ages jumping off big bridges to get my safe fall up, its a healthy'ish 144 odd so far, but its something I wouldnt want to repeat (For slashing) if I dont need it.I can see how it can help if I find a crush resistant mob and I like the fist animations, but realistically do I need to stick to it?Then when I do get my skills high enough keep swaping weps to keep the skills up?need some help and guidance pls.

<DIV>Use your crush weapon in your main hand and the slash/peirce in the offhand. It wont effect your DPS (much) but it will raise your skills.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Yenyang Angrydragon</DIV> <DIV>34 Ogre Monk</DIV> <DIV>Kithicore</DIV>

I personally like the fighting look of fistwraps and cestii more then bo and double staffs, so for me I swap out a crushing weapon till I skill up instead of a piercing slashing. Right now I used a fist wrap in my main hand, and a cestus in my secondary.

<DIV>I think you should stick with it. The fact that monks in this game can use all damage types is absolutely a boon, and should be taken advantage of. If you plan on raiding even a little, you will find that a lot of mobs, even just x2 mobs, are resistant/immune to at least one type of damage. More often than not though, they can be hit with crushing, which is nice if you don't have the money or desire to skillup pierce and slash. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If you do stick with it, always put the lower skilled weapon in your offhand, because the success of landing your special attacks is dependant on the skill of the weapon in your primary hand, and you will miss every single special you try if the skill is too far below the level you would need to be to hit the mob you're fighting. I learned that on my monk while trying to skill up also.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Regards,</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>
Thanks for the input guys. I stuggled to find some semi decent cestii's and fist wraps, in the end I got some green and blue cons ones, I was suprised how much fun actually doing dmg witht he fist wepons can be.I had trials of sir morgan to finish off with some other blue/green con quests and for the most part I switched to the cestii in the offhand and my Slime coated mace in the main hand and got my slash up to cap in no time. One thing I did find a problem was locating some cestii's in the firts place, I had to go to the fence to get some from the "other side" but there was not much choice.I did notice that ones with similar spec to that of the slime coated and my toranim I'd have to wait till 170 skill (Currently at 165) is that the case with that type of weapon all the way to 50??Anybody know if there is there any good Cestii weapon quests??Also is there any way to tell if a weapon is Slashing or crushing (I haven't seen any piercing yet) ? Or are staffs crushing as Cestii's all slashing? Is there any piercing mweapons that we can use?.<p>Message Edited by Tay on <span class=date_text>03-01-2005</span> <span class=time_text>01:29 PM</span>

<DIV>Its sounds like your around level 34-35? In that case you may want to find a couple Feysteel Cestii. Thats what I use right now equipable at 34. They have a great ratio and some pretty decent stats attached. I bought them for about 2 gold a peice.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Staffs, maces, rods are all crushing</DIV> <DIV>Cestii is slashing</DIV> <DIV>Cestus is peirce</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>No way to tell other than equiping it and seeing the message you get "You slash for blah blah.."</DIV> <DIV> </DIV><p>Message Edited by xripperx on <span class=date_text>03-01-2005</span> <span class=time_text>05:42 AM</span>

Tay,Search the board for Adorberg (sp?) fists. They are fist weapons but raise slashing skill when you use them. The start at a gnome in Elddar Grove (facing the Monk temple he is on the left hand side a ways down under a tree. Lastname is Wildmane). You start the quest by going to the big tree in Elddar Grove then head out to EL to find the tree in the gulley near the dyrads that you have to kill. Pretty vague help but there is a good walk through buried in the boards here somewhere. I believe they go white at 36, but still decent to have when trying to keep skills raised. I keep a feysteel cestii, wrap, mace on hand for raising skills every 20% or so.Kharza 36 Monk Mistmoore

<DIV>Personally I think monks should always train their slashing and crushing skills. Piercing may not be very important I went though levels 1-50 not using any piercing weapons.</DIV>

<DIV>Weaponsmiths can make a +7agi fistwrap that does slashing damage (feyiron fistwraps). The stats are pretty good for a WS item. I made a set for my monk to get up slashing. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>To get the skillup, I went to Nek Forest and fought some grey ^^ mob (level 25 I think). I turned on auto attack and walked away for about 30 minutes. When I came back, my skill was around 125ish. I got the skill up to 170 doing some access quest with the fistwrap in my offhand. It went up slowly, but eventually got to where it had to be.</DIV>
<DIV>I did the same thing several levels ago. I just got some level 30 pierce/slash weapons and found some ^^grey cents hit attack, it took a very long time to kill them. Took about an hour or so to get my skills from about 30 to max. At least we can raise skills on greys unlike eq1 where it only worked on mobs that gave xp.</DIV>
