I've been away from EQ2 and all MMORPG's for the last 2 to 3 months after spending most of my life grinding my zerker, doing all the HQ's to 70 and being main raid tank for my guild etc etc. I ended up having to stop becasue I wasn't having any fun anymore. It was all bout getting the best of this the best of that and it all became quite tedious. So I stopped palying and went off to play Oblivion on my 360 for a while. Lots of fun and no competition

I have just reactivated my account, now that i think I can come back to the game and have some fun again, and started reading the posts on the forums. I discovered we are all geeks it's amazing the amount of time and effort people will put in discussing percentages of crits and percentages of mitigation versus avoidance and can I gain a few more points of damage with this uber sword instead of that uber sword. It kind of made me smile in a missing the point kind of way.

I'm coming back to the game to have some fun. I've decided that as long as my armour and my weapons are decent and up to the task then I'm not actually going to worry about whether my weapon crits 10% of the time or 12% of the time. I know how to play my class, I was guild main tank after all , and I'm not going to let the stats of objects get in the way of adventuring, raiding and having some fun this time. No more geek overload from me

We all need to lighten up and have fun and yes i know some statos actually like the numbers part. Thanks for listening to my rant i needed to get it off my fabled tier 6 chest plate

I understand your point entirely and have been changing my perspective as well.

I used to try to maximize my character and make choices based on others opinions but lately ive been learning to take it easy and just have fun.

Go adventure, quest and explore with your guildies.

Even though those disciplines are very different, we enjoy figuring out how things work, take them apart, put them together differently, and when things work out as predicted it is a good feeling for us, it is the combination of learning something and creating something (that works) at the same time. In the same way that we enjoy casually playing the game (we don't really raid or anything) we also enjoy the puzzle and challenge it presents in the systems of the game, and how we might play in different ways to achieve different end results.

The more intrinsic and sophisticated the system/game the longer it is able to captivate the mind. Just as the more lively, vidid and fantastic the game is the more capable it is of capturing your own fancy and imagination. There are many properties like those that draw people to games, challenge capturing people's attention, high stakes thrilling others. Complexity is just another flavor to enjoy. :smileyvery-happy:

I'm sure a lot of us who play end up sitting in work, class, traffic, or elsewhere at times thinking about what the next dungeon will be like, how the raid tonight will go, or if cobalt platemail will look good on you. I guess we're just thinking about just how much some new sword is going to affect me, and why it will instead. So...

I won't deny in the end that we are geeks, we really probably are for all extents and purposes, but I just thought I'd offer a little insight into a perspective like our's. It probably seems like a lot of work to others, but to us it is no different than a jigsaw puzzle to put together for fun in your spare time. If the game were simple, or there were easy "solutions" to the "problems" the game challenges you with it wouldn't really warrant the kind of "putting together," nor would it be as enjoyable. But because it is sophisticated, and because the designers were very clever in the ways they planned out multiple equal or near-equal solutions to a myriad of problems, they've made a game that is fascinating to "mentally play." Because of that we learn what we can, and when we learn interesting things, we share them with others, because maybe they too will enjoy that knowledge, whether it means building their dream character for style, for maximally contributing to a raid force, or just getting exactly what they wanted out of their class.

GEEKS ROCK! We will Rule the world! lol

I would MUCH rather be a geek, dork, nerd etc... than someone who is cool. It sees we geeks have more fun cuz we arn't worried about being cool. Thats mho.

Just like some ppl said, the time invested for a lot of ppl depend on you being a geek. I sure as heck am going to do whatever i can to give my guild a fighting chance when i mt, whether it be correct gear selection through dkp, or potions, and best uses of tanking aa's and whatnot. I'm sure thats more than enough motivation for some to "dig deeper" into thier character and pull out more than his/her full potential.

At no time did I say it was wrong to be a geek. I was merely having a rant was all. I just thought it might be slightly amusing and may give some food for though for some people.

As for it being a waste of time, sure it could be deemed as a waste of time but then I think spending 8 hours parsing a fight again and again to see what percentage better a particular weapon combo is to be a waste of time.

Like the replies said, it takes all sorts
