I started playing EQ2 about the first of 2nd week of release and found after a decent amount of time that the game wouldnt run well on my machine so reluctantly and at the suggestion of a friend i bougnt and started playing WoW.

My main char is a lvl 60 Undead Rogue who has raid quality gear and is in the best guild on the server ( curently doing Molten Core instance) I have come back to EQ2.

Imho the depth of play in WoW gave me the feeling of going nowhere for nothing, in other words the game felt flat and uninteresting.

I should also add that there isnt much for the high lvl player to do besides raid endlessly for gear that doesnt really impact the way a class can be used and feels redundant. Many however do enjoy the PVP aspect of this game but since this never has appealed to me, even tho my main class Rogue is thought of to be godlike it just wasnt enough to maintain my interest.

Gl to you and hope you enjoy your experience.

I took Febuary off from eq2, had dinged 50 early jan. Wasn't alot to do at 50 back then, went to play wow with some friends, always expected to come back to eq2. WoW was ok, and the break did me good. Just like eq2 better though.

Lasted 2 days on WoW... hated it. Combat is completely boring (no HO/Renkei/etc. type system), crafting may as well not be in the game (press one button and it crafts an item...so much fun), characters models are ugly and severely limited, and so on. Really, the only reason I can imagine it's so popular is just that it's incredibly easy. It's like when Age of Mythology came out and was a totally dumbed down version of Age of Empires 2. WoW felt like like a dumbed down EQ2 with the same goofy art style that made me dislike their RTS.

ill look forward to seeing how WoW compars with this Red. I too alomost took the plung to see if i would like the all out PvP mode or the limited PvP mode. I must say, after reading thier forums on the all out PvP servers after the gave honor points....getting Ganked did not seem appealing to me at all. Can u imagins logging into a zone.... getting killed by a 14 yr old who then stands over you and laughs at ye...and when u rez...k8ills ya again...ad nuasium.

Now the limited PvP where you need to ask someone to duel does sound appealing to me....so I look forward to our PvP formate upcoming. I understand Guild wars is good too and have thought about that as well. I do love EQ2 though so at this point im kinda hangin here with the homies.:smileywink:

Check in and give us periodic updates.

Im playing both atm. Since i reached level 50 in EQ2, i've been logging only for raids or to advance this or that heritage.

Wow lacks deepness.... but there are some good points to it:

- landscapes are beautiful and amazingly realistic in displacement, also there are no zones (except for instances). Although

EQ2 have beautiful graphics, i must admit WOW landscapes are more rich in detail and you get that "large" feeling.

- not so linear feeling. You can have hundreds of places to go at a given level and actually, if you dont concentrate in 1 or 2

places, you will be lost in quests, not knowing what to hit next. EQ2 seems pretty linear up to level 30 and becomes a bit better after it. So in WOW you can play 3 classes and level in completely different sceneries, in EQ2 you can play 3 classes and perhaps level in all the same sceneries (except perhaps in beginner levels, if youre good/evil)

But...... thats about it, ALL quests in WOW are basically "run-arounds", "kill-tasks" or "deliver tasks". You will be doing the SAME type of things over and over again.

Also, combat in WOW compared to EQ2 is POOR. EQ2 combat system puts WOW to shame.

Oh.... but theres... PVP!!!!!........ well......

PvP is still beta version and stealth/range/caster types are kings (whats new?). Low levels get virtually zerged by level 60s with no penalties at all. Melee classes are cannon fodder (major letdown to me, since im a melee kind-of-guy).

And last... but not least.... lag is the WORST lag i ever had in a mmorpg.

But im still playing both games, both are good games imo, i just feel more "at home" with EQ2 and cant wait for an expansion to come out.

Well I have been playing WoW now for 3 days and now a LVL 15 Warlock. WoW has its advanatges and disadvantages IMO. First off the PvP I dont really care for it at the moment, I am concentrating on PvE. The graphics, they are cartonish but they are still very good. The scenery is beautiful and looks real. However still can't compare to EQ2 graphics. i think the thing I miss the most is my character, playing eq2 u get a feeling that your chracter is unique and one of a kind, I have been playing this 3 days and have seen 1000 warlocks who look exactly like me. The quests are fun, alot of running around back and forth so far, Leveling is ajoke in this game compared to eq2, at this rate I can hit 60 in a month. The market imo is easier in eq2 with the merchants and ahving bulletan boards. In WoW you have to go to this auction which is far from me and its like an ebay sort of thing. But its still fun to play and I'm still getting used to it.

talk to you all later

Noren

I agree with most of what Davish said. I basically had two characters capped out in WoW (one 58 and one 60). My highest here is a level 20 zerker so keep in mind that my EQ2 knowledge is limited to lower level content. I would add that PvP in WoW can be fun...if you are on a PvP server. The PvE version of PvP gets very repetitive because people usually gather at one of two locations to do it. I don't think that Battlegrounds will help anything because there is a huge population imbalance between the Alliance and Horde on most servers. It's going to be a huge mess IMO. I would also add that I was a bit surprised at how buggy EQ2 is. I'd rate EQ2 as buggier than WoW but WoW is much laggier so it balances out. I say EQ2 is buggier because most of WoW's bugs are limited to specific instances or situations. I've never managed to fall through the world in WoW but I have in EQ2 hehe. EQ2 does have the advantage of faster patches though. WoW doesn't get hotfixed unless there is some sort of major exploitable bug. If you have a class skill that is bugged it could be a month or more before you see a fix. I played a Paladin and one of our combat abilities has been bugged for at least a couple of months (Seal of Command) where it would stop letting you recast it every once in a while. Paladin seals have to be recast every 30 seconds so you can see how that might suck. Anyway, it's too early for me to draw a conclusion of how much I'll like EQ2 in the long run but the level of WoW's long term playability should be obvious since I'm here now.
