View Full Version : How do you handle adds?
<DIV>Hello all,</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I've been spending some time in Fallen Gate receintly and have been having one issue come up every now and again.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>As I'm sure you all know the first courtyard (and many rooms) in Fallen Gate have a ton of fast spawning (groupped and ungroupped) double and tripples always popping up. How do you handle the many adds without switching the group members all over the place as you land your taunts on the adds? </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>One possable solution I have found is by making somone the "main assist." who will focus on the first target while I spam taunts on the adds.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Am I wrong for making a main assist in a simple group situation? </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Or should I just focus on the first engaged target and let those casters/priests who fan out to cast (thus picking up the adds) deal with the dmg until the first targets are dead.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

Having a main assist sounds good. Try to stop group members (well DPS) from using implied targetting as well - it will get them killed. <div></div>
<P>Cool thanks...I usually just say so and so is main assist target through them.</P> <P> </P> <P>But they always just end up switching back to me. Then they complain that I''m switching target too much.</P> <P> </P> <P>Makes me want to scream "Then don't get close to other monsters!"</P> <P>:smileyvery-happy:</P><p>Message Edited by Tybr on <span class=date_text>04-17-2006</span> <span class=time_text>04:00 AM</span>

<P>Also try having the DPS types make a macro called Assist MA - /assist (name of MA). The MA can be any non-healer type.</P> <P>Any healers should have you targeted. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P> <P>Since LU13, everyone needs to understand how they can help with aggro. (i.e. what spells do they have that reduce/transfer aggro, for example I have a spell Moderate, 33% hate reduction on a target in my group, and I make sure I use it every time.)</P> <P>I routinely have to flip between targets on mutliple targets in a mob and multiple mobs to maintain aggro when those pesky AoE type spells get cast, so my poor little wiggling fingers types don't get dead. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> Of course I know one wizard who tries hard to be naked by end of any Halls of Fate run, so go figure. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P>

<P>i usually play in 3rd person so i see the potential adds and adds pretty quickly and either toss a group taunt on them then switch back to my main target or if i can manuver to a position to blow off an AoE without pulling unwanted mobs i'll do that, since all you really need is get them to start hitting you so your Hold the Line procs on them to keep the hate (since it works like an auto-taunt) ...usually getting their attention once is enough as long as people assist and don't go nuts nuking...</P> <P>don't let your healers go down...that's prolly the worst thing in FG hehe</P>

<DIV>Well I normally throw on a group short term buff . The other thing that can pick up agro off groupmates if done fast enough is absorbing dmg , and giving them your avoidance. I often use the group dmg absorber *(wont get this till t6) if the buff agro wasnt enough that usually gets them over to me. I think since they changed the ways buffs work lower lvl guards are at a disadvantage of grabbing adds without switching to them. When I was the lvl for FG I had quite a few group buffs I could get agro with from adds. My best advice would be to put your avoidance and hate decreaser on your healer. That coupled with good timing on group miti buff cast should get you most adds. The problem comes when you get a set of adds , then another , then another ...</DIV>

<P>I found that I can handle most adds effectively just by positional awareness.</P> <P>For example, if you are crawling through a zone. I am the puller and thus on point. If I have a backstabber with me I pull and move to the other side of the mob. That puts my back to the uncleared area and facing the group and the cleared area we just came from. So if a roamer comes, it hits me first and my taunt proc buff takes over.</P> <P>If I am camped in particular spot, I position the rest of the group in the safest spot possible and keep myself in the "dangerous area" as much as possible.</P> <P>First aggro has been key on my adventures.</P> <P>Allurana, 60 Guardian</P> <P>Blackburrow</P>

Always placing your body into the Danger zone - that way Maddening or Inflaming Defense takes over and becomes the free taunt on those adds. This also keeps all your DPS on one target. If you have the luxury of a MA in a group then he should only peel off you for those adds that dont grab you up as a target right away - protection to the Squishy classes. Once the threat is terminated or you finish your target switch to his and he can go back to the assist job. That way the Healer(s) are limited in healing only 1 or 2 of you instead of the group.</P> <P>My 2 coppers<BR></P>
