Yep it translates into block chance. Higher is better. As of tonight the display value for avoidance in the persona window is bugged and is not showing the results of shield factor correctly. LU 16 should fix this.

i have a question,

I have a tier 5 fabled kite shield whic currently gives me a shield factor of 720, i have T6 legendary ironwood tower shield (820) and i have T6 fabled kite shield (920)

my fabled T5 is still better than both T6 fabled and T6, when i equip either of the T6 shields i lose on average 2.5 - 3% avoidence,

im currently lvl 57 so my T5 should be effectively grey to me but it provides better protecion than either of my T6 ones.

So how does shield factor work ?

Because i dont understand it

Basically, avoidance is made up of several factors added together. One of them is block chance. Block is the specific part of avoudance affected by shields. Shield factor works a lot like the mitigation number on armor, only rather than resulting in an increase in your mitigation % it results in an increase in your avoidance %. What is broken is the avoidance number in your UI, though that should be getting fixed today. It is broken because it currently displays a fixed number based on the quality and type of your shield, ignoring the level and therefore the actual shield factor. So a tier 3 fabled shield will show the same increase in avoidance as a tier 6 fabled shield even though the t6 has a much higher shield factor, and is in fact adding a lot more to your block chance. Basically, go for the higher sheild factor, it will help you avoid more hits.
