Yarrr! Avast ye swabs! No, not that kind of raid. They're called hard core, uber, or elite, but most of us just refer to them as raiders. Raiders are a special breed of players who exhibit skill, dedication, and motivation escaping the average player. Former raider Kiara, chats with a couple who raided and finds out the details on what raiding is all about. Check out this great interview of a raiding couple Xaivtox and Tegilu here.

Was an interesting read. The only thing that made me chuckle was the generalization that all hardcore raiders are dirty, lifeless and irresponsible. I think that's a bit harsh although it wasn't kiara who said it.

Anyone of any playstyle can have those tendencies wether they raid or not, and I know as a hardcore raider myself I have to balance 50 hour work weeks, with a social life, cooking and raiding

An enjoyable read, Kiara! As someone who did some pretty high-end and hardcore raiding in EQ for a bit (as shammie, enchanter and/or cleric), thanks for not only reminding me about the really fun parts of raiding, but also reminding me why I don't raid heavily anymore.

Any of my guildmates will tell you if we are doing an instance or a too group raid, I'm the one going "Come onnnnnnnnnnnn I wanna goooooooooo." The idea behind this, is to give a little insight into raiding for those who don't do it (like me).We have nothing but respect for soloers at TenTonHammer and in fact, I know for certain 2 of our other writers solo almost exclusively and I usually duo with the writer of this article (we're both Templars so soloing...good but still not easy). In fact on Monday we just had a Confessions of the Solo Player article put up.If this conveyed that raiders were "better players" I apologize. You will have to concede though, that raiders typcially (yes I'm generalizing) spend more time playing and know their class limiations better if nothing else out of necessity.

Message Edited by Radar-X on 04-21-2006 09:30 AM

For any that think that I may have generalized raiders- 1st, I have nothing but the utmost respect for 99.99% of the raiding community. There are some- in any mmorpg- as in any aspect of life, that do goto the "extreme", and I have had the misfortune to run into a few. As in people that play the game for 80 straight hours, loose their job or flunk out of college, and actually need counseling to live a normal life.

Myself, I was a raider, I love raiding. There is a balance that everyone needs, and I just came to a point that I could not make the commitment needed at this point in my life to continue raiding. Should circumstances change, you bet I will be back in the toughest zones killing the toughest monsters with some of the best players that this game has to offer. The best way to describe some forms of hardcore raiding is that you have a new gf/bf that needs a lot of time.

So, to all you raiders, enjoy the game and go kick some monster rear ends!

Great piece of work. Brings up many sleepless nights in EQ1. In EQ2 I have only done a few 2 grp raids so far, and those were all pick up raids. At times i do miss my 3 raid days and countless 30 min call ins for mobs that popped. I will raid again I am sure it runs to thick in the blood I always have to push myself to the limits and there is no way better to do that with others that are on the top of there game to.

Grimmr

Splitpaw Mystic 34 seasons
