View Full Version : PvP Feedback on targeting changes

Since this is going live today, I'm moving this topic to PvP forums.

[email protected] wrote:

In testing and talking with Omougi last night, you'll notice a targeting change coming in GU64. Few key changes for PvP:

1. Seeing what your target is casting2. Seeing what your target is targeting3. Healing thru your enemy's target.

These are all PvE concepts that have been in the game forever and now being pushed to PvP combat. How I understood it, Omougi's main focus is to help new PvE players to PvP. I guess I can see this point, and it will definitely help these 5 players.

I'm a little disappointed in lossing some of the "learned" skills that come with just PvP'ing alot, but I guess I'm also open to running with the changes if it encourages more PvPers. Here's a short list of some basic concerns:

1. Enemies can see what I'm casting and who I'm casting it on. I like how this is currently hidden from the enemy and a good player can tell what's going on anyway... but idealy these things should be hidden.

2. A group/healer can see were the enemy's damage focus is being targeted. Heals should be reactive from incoming damage and not, "I see they are going after player x, best toss a pre heal on player x."

3. Healing thru an enemy's main DPS. Taunts help avoid this, but still is a silly concept.

Anyway, just looking for some feedback on the topic. I'd post this on PvP forum, but I know what the flaming responses would be.

ThanksExur

Sounds like another mindless button mashing dumbing down. I'm not sure how useful the, seeing what your enemy is casting will be, since most people have casting speeds cranked up that by the time you can read it, it's too late to react. ( maybe a select few long casting spells ) But that whole healing through your enemies target is quite a class simplification. I know that I have certain heals or cures macro'd and saved to a different bar for class purposes. Live ( or die ) and learn. Lastly there is no justification for the ability to see the implied target of a non ally. Have to agree with Exur here. May as well get rid of the whole /anonymous as well while they're at it.

This would have been fine on BG's only as they cater to the carebear attitude (no rez sickness I mean jeez) but to push it to the pvp server way to dumb down open world for those who cant pvp.

Veterans of PvP instinctively can determine what the enemy is doing or planning because they have experienced & learned over long periods of time how to act & react to certain guilds, players, & classes. This change is to help newer players & I welcome it completely. To see a move level playing field for my enemies is pretty exciting because it will certainly bring more pvp for us all. I quit 2 years ago when PvP was just too dead to take anyore.. recently I have come back & I have to say sitting in QH or Skyshrine all day praying at least 1 person would actually fight has been terrible. Anything that will encourage players to pvp is an obvious good choice imo.

Just another reason to never to play on this lame girly server again.

I keep seeing year after year posts of how to fix pvp and the ones that make sense will never happen.

The reason it will never happen is because they only have one pvp server.

That one pvp server is lame, and it gets lamer and lamer every year.

They wont create a retro server because no one would ever play on this one.

Except for the cheaters, losers, and lazy crybabies.
