Hello everyone, I have this idea I've been chewing on for a while so I finally decided to post a suggestion. It may not turn out to be a popular idea but I think it sounds like loads of fun.

Tell me what YOU think of a game-wide decorator's Frostfell contest, in which each server has a collaboration team and enters one decorated home or guild hall for the competition.

Everyone loves Frostfell and it always inspires the most amazing art. I propose we make it interesting. So hows about we collaborate with other decorators from our own respective servers and make a competition out of it? Eh? Eh?

Having visited the housing leaderboards on every server, I know the level of creativity and talent that each could bring to this is quite amazing. There are some truely gifted decorators out there, each with their own creative strength. Imagine what we could accomplish working together in a competitive setting! I'm not talking about just any ol' challenge - I'm thinking bigger; a contest in which we officially work together with our server-mates and have an extended amount of time to create a decorated masterpiece for our entry.

So I realize this would be a huge undertaking and would require some organization. I've come up with a few baseline ideas for 'rules' on the off chance anyone likes this and wants to run with it.

EQ2 Decorator's Frostfell Challenge rules (subject to change):

1. Any housing zone, any guild hall, any breakout area, and layout editor allowed

2. Must be frostfell / winter themed

3. Only one entry per server.

4. Entries submitted between December 10th-20th 2012 ((or approximate dates. Thats right - 2012... I'll get to that in a minute))

5. Each server can have as many collaborators as they like but each contributor must name themselves in forum. This would keep it official and make sure credit is given where credit is due.

6. A player may only contribute to one server's entry, even if you decorate on multiple servers.

7. Choosing collaborators: Each server could start its own recruitment thread for the contest. Interested parties can then post with examples of their work. We would have to choose amongst ourselves a server project leader or leaders to make certain executive descisions.

8. Entries would be judged in 3 categories: creativity (i.e how original is the work?), style (i.e. how aesthetically pleasing is the work?), and execution ((i.e. how perfect is the work? Flickering tiles, uneven surfaces, etc, can be distracting. Now I realize getting an area "perfect" often requires knowledge of the layout editor and not everyone is a wizard. I myself have a lot of learning to do with the program. But thats why its a collab.))

9. Choosing a winner: I propose we have first, second, and third place winners. To keep things fair, I also think that the winners should be chosen by a panel of judges rather than a mass popularity type of thing, as some servers and people just aren't as vocal as others.

Judges could be players, but should not be players contributing to an entry. Maybe devs would want to get involved with judging; that would be even better.

10. Prizes: Any ideas?

Now you might be thinking, "Wait a minute, a whole year?! Thats soooo long. Forget it."

Well I think there are a few good reasons for waiting a year to submit an entry:

1. This allows plenty of time to aquire needed materials, hard to get items or rare items. For example, local festival items are only availabe twice a year and some items can take a while to quest for.

2. It gives time to find collaboration partners, decide on a theme, and develop ideas

3. The building process can be time consuming and difficult to coordinate, especially in a team where everyone has different schedules and time constraints.

4. New items are added to the game all the time... surely there will be some 2012 frostfell items we won't want to miss including!

DISCLAIMER:

I don't know if this has been done before... this may not be as original as I thought. It may be going on on some other website like everseek or eqtraders, I don't know, I didn't look that hard but I've never seen a challenge this big anywhere; however, there are several talented decorators on my own server I can think of just off the top of my head I would love a chance to collaborate with. Also, I don't even know if something like this is technically allowed on the station forums or if I'm posting in the right spot. If any of that is the case please /disregard post.

Then again if this is a good idea to you and sounds like good times, please add your +1 and/or your own suggestions and maybe we can get this stickied.

Sounds like a fun idea. I like that it's a year timeframe too

Something like this is very big to organize though. Might I suggest adding a list of servers to your original post and start a consolidated list of people interested on each. People can just reply here to add their name to the group. That way you can see if there is enough interest across the board. You can add me into the mix for interest, whether you need it for a decorating team or a judge.

Crushbone - Afista

Sound like a fun thing... but how big is this ? I have this vision of craziness to establish teams!
