My current gaming PC is a AMD 6x CPU, SLI 580s and 12 gigs of ram. It runs everything spectacularly accept for well EQ2, I mean I do know why, it's the way it was built. I wanna run EQ2 like a champ, I don't wanna turn off shadows or this or that in certain areas. Like in Kylong Plains or Fens of Nasthur, it just destroys my frame rate, I am over it. I want a total machine devoted to running EQ2.

So, I propose this: Put me together a PC to run it at max and over 60fps, more or less everywhere in the game.

I am assuming a top of the line PC from 2008 should do it. Dual CPU...etc

So put me together a machine to max out EQ2 in all it's glory.

Unfortunately I don't think anything will ever run EQ2 are 60fps, it's just a badly designed engine.

well what can I do? I know some people with much lesser systems run it better then me, I know a dual CPU would help alot.

Well yes, the fastest dual core CPU you can get would run it better. I run it ok on my quad core, but nothing like the quality of other games.

Another thing that might make a difference is a solid state hard drive.

You seem to have plenty of ram (I run in 3 gig) and my video cards were FAST 3 years old, but in Crossfire (I don't think Crossfire does anything IMO).

I have to settle for 10 FPS or lower in crowded areas, and around 30 soloing.

A ssd just boost a bit while zoning, if server does give you enough bandwith to get used to.

Im runing on a quad-core intel with a fair old hd5870 and can´t get a decent framerate as i used to do in other games, with better graphics.

It is sad but true, a meanwhile very old engine that even don´t support what new graphiccards can provide

Well CPU seems tobe the bottle neck, so I guess if I built a machine and bought the fastest dual core I can, it would peform better then my shiny AMD6x. I am serious though, I have an older gaming laptop with a quad core and it runs better on that then it does my monster machine I use for al games, it is really frusterating.

At home I play on an i7 860 and a GTX480 on extreme quality. Outside of my guild hall and in instances/raid zones I do keep a good 50+ FPS or even 60+ FPS in some areas. However, during a raid as an example, once the spells start to fly and all 24 people are doing their thing, the FPS does drop as low as 25 for me but averages around 35 during these heavy load moments.

It is beyond frusterating with a top of the line system to perform poorly in this game, I love this game, it really brings me down. You'd thnk after all the investments they have made in this game after doing expansion after expansion they would do something a bit more drastic to remedy this issue. the GPU shadows were a good start, but even they do not look as good as full CPU shadows.

EQII does push your CPU quite a bit but top of the line systems work great here. Mid range systems do as well. What these terms are referring to is probably where we'll have a breakdown as my system was very cheap and not top of the line and plays the game very, very, well.

Personally I've always preferred the GPU shadows in every way.

A top of the line CPU doesnt run this game optimally, like I said I hae a 6x CPU on my main system and and i5 2.27ghz on my laptop and my laptop runs this game better. Like right now, on my high end system I am in Moors of Ykaesha playing mybard and I barely break 20 fps while running around and fighting.

Also when I start fighting and seveal mobs on the screen my FPS goes single digit. I was playing in estate last night and while fighting i was geting 9-11 FPS in a full group with spells flying. My gaming system destroys every game but this one, it is really pretty unacceptable, IMO.

You need a CPU with a fast core speed to run EQII optimally, doesn't matter how many cores you have.

An E8400 or E8650 will run it better than more modern CPU's because of the individual core speeds.

Yeah, I realize that, I was just elaborating. Which goes back to my topic at hand, I wanna build the ideal and most optimal EQ2 to run this game as well as possible everywhere. The idea that "you can never reach 60fps everywhere" is pretty ridiculous to me

Max CPU core speed. Something like Core i7-2600K overclocked. 8GB RAM. 64bit Win7. Dont know about how much GPU really matters to this game, as long as it aint the slowest. Some midrange card probably is fine.

I dont get 60fps (i have Core i7-860, GTX460, 8GB RAM, Win7 64bit).

Also having the same problem. All suggestions followed, but unable to log in via launcher. Username / pw works for EQ2players / forums however.
