Ok, returning after 3 years and I walk into my Qeynos home and am affronted with a project I left hanging: Sorting books. A whole room was dedicated to this project and they are in various stacks and piles. There must be hundreds of them. I am overwhelmed. In fact, my initial response is to just start tossing them. I fear, however, I will regret such a move.

My understanding is the item count has been removed from the majority of them now? If so, this makes it a bit easier to deal with. Do you all use books in your decorating? Or do some of you actually toss them out? I feel like I can't start anything else until I deal with the books. I'm trying to get ideas on how to combat this huuuge book problem I have currently.

Right click each book, select 'Pack in moving crate', problem solved Now you can get on with your life and deal with the books at leisure. I'd advise against tossing them if collecting them was fun in the first place as you may ccome to regret it later. Do your decorating with the books in mind and then go back and get them after your library is built and the shelves are waiting ...

What a horrible thing to even think!

Amitee wrote:

Do you all use books in your decorating?

Yes. All of my projects wind up containing at least a few books. However, I decided to put together an entire seperate library for my collection of books. The Norrathian Research Library was built specifically to hold all of my books, then I decided I did not have enough. So I begged, borrowed, and stole, and now it has even more books!

But the inspiration for the Norrathian Research Library was a "small" two-story library that I built in my home (no longer exists):

And before I built my little two-story library in my house, I shelved them (also no longer exists):

All three are thumbnails.
/nerd_mode 1 pre velious, aurelis was an absolute angel and gave me an excel list of all books i then went through and comparing with biblionorrath and whatnot, sorted out the ones that took item slots (dont have room for them, atm), books that were single books, stacks, and other i then sorted the singular books and divided the total books by number of bookcases. i think it worked out to 41 books per case. i now have a list and it's just a case of find the book on the list, and slap it on the shelf they're not sorted within each case (for now) with the stacks, i shoved them in every nook and cranny i could find, plus stuffed a few more shelves amongst the knickknacks... though i may borrow jazabelle/aurelis' (sorry dont know who came up with it) idea and slide the stacks in so just 1 book spine is visible, at least in the cases that have a wall behind em

https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0Bx...out=list&num=50

/nerd_mode 0

I apologize, I was really overwhelmed when I walked into that room after three years and did a serious ... series of ... blinks, then promptly dumped my new painting on the nearest wall and ran out.

Thank you for the replies, they helped alot! I seem to also have two rooms and an outdoor space to decorate I didn't remember having before on my Qeynos estate. So I can easily take a room to build a library with. In the intermitent... I can toss those books in a moving crate. /lol

My sister had thousands of books all stacked in her basement, until I redid the room as a library for her.

My husband is a nutcase when it comes to books, in his house he has a library section where all his books are in alphabetical order and seperated by style, like languare, lore, etc. Yeah, that's too much like work for me. Although I have gotten creative and used them in my decorating. Remember nothng says a book has to be used as a book. I've used them for cabinet doors in kitchens, used the stacked ones to cover table legs in library rooms (makes it look like the table is supported by the books not all legs). I've used then as appliance parts, the spines on some look just like buttong or knobs. Be creative, think outside the box!

I love the creativity of the home owners here. Thank you further for sharing pics and tips. Now I guess I need to figure out this lay-out editor. At the rate of "to do" things I am finding, I -may- be able to start decorating in the next 8-12 months!

Thought I'd throw in a part of what I've done with my books: make a library! This is a small section of my eldest character Izeka's house.

You can see where some of the shelves are empty and I have yet to add books. I've spread out my books thoughout the house as you can see with the desk. I have another smaller "library" downstairs and I've put books on bedside tables, coffee tables, in my mini alchemy lab, and even on my kitchen counter as "recipe books".
