When updating the game from log in screen I keep getting this. "There was a problem confirming the size of the file C:Program FilesSonyEverQuest IIlp_tempUIDefaulteq2ui_mainhud_tutorial.xml. Please try again. If the problem persists use the Help menu above for more info and help.

Station launcher will try again after 30 seconds."

I've retried many times, it keeps not working.
I was surprised to find this resolved a similar issue I was having today:Go to your game preferences menu, and run a full file scan on EQ2. It should do some updating after scanning. Exit out and run the patcher again.

I would love to hear an update, I am having the exact same problem and same file. Was gonna come back to the game, but if this can't get fixed forget it.

Indeed. Some response would be nice. I'm having the same issue. I've deleted the file in question. I've run a "Full Scan". I've rebooted my computer....

Still the same error.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I run the launcher as Administrator.

Same error here, bought and installed the game today with 5 gig + update. Running Win XP. I deleted the entire IP_temp folder, did a full scan, rebooted w/ the same result.

I have the same problem as well. I stopped playing for awhile and removed the game from my comp. Even tho it used to work on the same computer with the same set up it no longer does after reinstallation. Same issue and pop up as the rest of the folks here. Help would be nice....

I have EQ2X installed also and it works fine, it was fun so I upgraded to the 'live' servers.

Still no fix for me. I can play what appears to be a bugged not updated version of the game via a certain icon I clicked when I browsed files in explore. There's different ways to try and run game. The most logical choice, the eq2 icon which runs the sentinel fate launcher keeps canceling the update. I have extended installed too. I'll will try to uninstall it, maybe there's a conflict?

I tried uninstalling Extended via add remove, but it wouldn't let me. So I deleted it's folder in explore. I noticed my Eve online icon in add remove prog had a eq2 icon. I uninstalled it as well. Now the game updated and I can launch it.

Uninstalling EvE did not help me. This problem (with different files) is in a couple of different threads on these forums. Some acknowledgement or assistance would be nice.

Are you guys using the station launcher? I had a similar problem so I called tech support and they had me uninstall the station laucher and download the streaming client. Once I did that my problem was fixed. According to tech support they are going to be phasing out the station launcher. I would give that a shot to see if it fixes your problem. Also make sure you are running as administrator.

I didn't think of the solution above, or rather, I was not happy to fool with station launcher. Instead, I switched versions, and copied the file from the test version into the regular one. the update completed, and it seems to be working just fine.

yeah I never thought of what you did. I just called Tech Support instead because I tried deleting the files and everything. The game actually seems to be running better on the streaming client. According to tech support if you delete the station launcher and install the streaming client you wont have to redownload the game.

It sounds like you might be using an older Station Launcher version...the newer version is much better at handling those patching exception errors.

You can download and install the latest from http://launcher.station.sony.com/up...ncher_setup.exe

Make note of your existing install path because if your version is really outdated this installer won't know where it is at.

By setting run as administrator ,by right clicking the window icon and going thru options, it now runs smoothly.

I'm having the exact same issue about "determining file size". I have brand new laptop that I'm trying to get the game updated on. It keeps hanging on this error.

I have windows 7 home premium 64bit on this laptop. I have also downloaded the latest station launcher and tried that...also have tried updating by just clicking on the eq2 application icon in the eq2 directory. The only reasonable thing I haven't tried is the streaming client...I have not liked previous versions of the streaming one.

Updating the Station Launcher did not work for me. The streaming client did, but only after uninstalling. Windows 7, 64-bit.

I didn't like the streaming client. The thing is you can let the game fully download before you play it and you can also throttle the download speed of the files while in game. What I did was I let the game fully download and now it technically isnt streaming anymore. According to the guy I spoke with at tech support he said that they will be phasing out the station launcher thats why he had me go to the streaming client. I have had no problems since

For those of you who tried the streaming launcher but are still running into difficulties updating, are you using an older version of Profit UI? We ran into a lot of players who had issues with Profit after we updated the UI. If you are using an older version of Profit, try completely getting rid of the Profit folder and then try updating again (make sure you are using the streaming launcher).

If you still run into a problem, try deleting the lp_temp folder, then try updating.

If that doesn't work, then we can try completely resetting your user interface. Keep in mind that this will completely delete your custom key bindings, window settings, etc. So you may want to make a copy of the files in an alternate location prior to doing this:

Again, you may want to make backups and then delete the following files and folders:

cache folder

eq2_recent.ini

eq2_default.ini

EverQuest2.exe

eq2.ini

As well as the character specific files, these will appear as such:

Servername_CharacterName_EQ2_uisettings.ini

Stationname_characters.ini

To do this, please follow these directions:

1. First look for your EverQuest II directory. You can find the default directory in (for Windows XP): C:Program FilesSonyEverQuest II (for Windows Vista/7): C:Program DataSony Online EntertainmentInstalled GamesEverQuest II

2. Click on MY COMPUTER and then proceed into local disk C:

3. Navigate your way to the default directory, or your chosen installation directory.

4. Next look for any files explained above and delete them.

5. Afterwards, please start EverQuest II to have these files re-downloaded by the patcher.

If deleting these files does not resolve your issue, you can restore your backed up files and folders and retain your hotkeys, contact lists, and display settings.

Let me know if this fixes the problem for you.

Hey guys, I recently reactivated my EQ2 account to have a go at it again since I have gotten quite bored with the other games I've been playing recently.

After getting a patch of about 200 MB, going afk for a while and coming back, I'm getting hit with the same issue as the thread starter has.

"There was a problem confirming the size of the file C:Program Files (x86)Sony Online EntertainmentInstalled GamesEverQuest IIlp_tempUIDefaulteq2ui_mainhud_tutorial.xml.

Station launcher will try again after 5 seconds."

I have tried several different things including deleting the file in question and also removing my Station Launcher and re installing it, then hooking Station Launcher back onto EQ2 and repatching it, nothing works, I still get the same error over and over again.

I tried starting EQ2 directly from the files folder and logging directly into the game, it worked and I was able to log in on one of the characters I played a while back but the user interface was totally screwed up and it was more or less unplayable.

I am not running any addons or custom interfaces.

Hoping I won't need to reinstall EQ2, as my internet provider right now has slow speeds, will be changing ISP later though. But I have read about people reinstalling EQ2, to have the same issue pop up again.

Crossing my fingers that there will be a fix for this soon.

You're right. I changed the Station Launcher (I once had the light blue one) and its worked.

ButNow I only have access to EQ 2, and not my other SOE games.

If the old Station Launcher shall no more be used, then the Station Launcher MUST warn itself the player that it is no more accurate, no more functionning. Players do not have to browse each SOE forums everyday to discover that yes, currently SOE updates their program remotely, but wrongly, because they do not have the good software and this the Station Launcher is unable to discover.

So the dev team shall send an ultimate patch to the old station launcher making it tell to players that they must change it.

Else, everyone will loose days to understand what is happening.

I just came back to EQ2 and was getting the same issue on my Windows Vista. I tried everything: Setting as Admin, manually changing security to Allow, even doing a clean install but I get the same issue (the real annoying thing is that I only would get it after downloading 2100 MB). I uninstalled the old station launcher and installed the new streaming launcher but instead of this error I would get an ERROR 1012 (same thing while uninstalling and reinstalling Sentinel's Fate). I ended up uninstalling everything and just installing the streaming launcher. After downloading the 12+ GB the game now works. Kind of defeats buying the DVD.

TSR-JamisonW, if I can make a suggestion. Please have the station launcher update itself automatically to the current version. This requirement seems, rather dated...

With that being said, my issue was with a fresh install straight from the DVDs to a brand new laptop. No UI mods nothing.
The streaming client (http://launch.soe.com/eq2) does fix a majority of these issues, and as other users have suggested we are phasing out the old station launcher.

There are new single-game launchers available for our games that you can use in lieu of the Station Launcher, if you need links for them they can be found on the respective game's websites.
