That's not a statement, it's a question.

I'm a wizard. Level 88. My gear is improving but still not good enough. I don't have enough AA. That alone puts me at a disadvantage. I got it.

I know I want to get close to take away the insane DPS created by their bows. Caught out in the open I get snared and vaporize almost before I can click a potion or cast Manashield.

So...advice? Or just die?

Only advice I can give you is to get their green/orange/red bar all the way to nothing before your green/orange/red bar does.

Essentially, rangers are mage killers in PvP.

couple key gear pieces you need and you really need all your aa . there is a ring that procs stoneskins drops in TOMC and i think it can be purchased off old skool vendor . need the charm dispels roots mez etc ... cant use till 90 . your freedom pots and your potins for cures .

You will prob have to dispell and run to him root him . sont bother with manashield it only works pve now and thats barely . Hit him with your longest stun cause the bow will be rdy to auto again . then i cast my proc that damages and snares and then all my fast casting spells get spammed from the least fast starting first including cease .

now he's dead or running for his/her life and thats when i cast storming , if he has potions or a totem like you he has used it to dispell the root or snare , and storming will finish the job you can select a new target .

on occasion when you sprint toward them they will sprint away and be too far for you to nuke but their bow can still land . When they do this I stop running toward them turn around and run opposite direction , if you have dispelled your snares . sprint away too . If they wanna fight they came grow a pair and get at least close enough for you to land yours dont bother trying to get close enough to take away their bow auto , aint gonna happen . you'll be dead . get the ring procs stone skins 2 of em . if they are stifled with 2 stoneskins active thats 2 auto attacks down cant cast on ya cause of the stifle , then stuns . plenty of time for a wizzy to kill em . Oh and i rarely use ice comet for pvp anymore its a waste of time imho .

How I defeat a ranger? Hide behind a tree and wait for them to come to you

Or mez them, root them, whatever , they are very susceptible to CC..

Use the terrain to your advantage. Open areas are a ranger's playground. Use a wall, and make them come to you. They lose their greatest weapon then.

It's all about surviving the first wave of dmg. Once you've done that the problem becomes the sneaky little bstrds have you slowed, your poisoned and they run away yelling, nanny-nanny-booger-snots.

So a couple of things:

1) If you get below 25% pop your manashield, typically not a good pvp strat but against a ranger it's ok. They are 90% dmg in the first few seconds.

2) Get them slowed or interrupted somehow... that or they just run away and come back once MS is down.

3) Big bombs, they don't have a lot of HPs so you can take them down fast.

It would look something like this:

1) Manashield

2) Pots to clear slows/poison dots

3) Flame of Veloius (dmg + slow) or Storming Temptest (DOT dmg + interrupt) (I like to get some dmg on them right away)

4) Numbing cold, they are probably too far away, so Glacial Wind or Shackle (they will pot it)

5) Ice Comet, Ball of Fire, Ice Comet

For Defense

Manashields

Pots

To slow

Flame of Velious - Slow + Dmg

Numbing cold - AOE slow (only if they are close)

Glacial Wind

Shackle

Interrupt

Storming Tempest (DOTS and interrupts them as they try to kite you) - Interupt + DMG

DMG

Ice Comet

Ball of Fire
