First, let me say I understand the intent perfectly, so i'm not bashing you at all.

All I will say, is that odds are this will either get moved or locked. Discussions of religion aren't allowed on the forums, and that's probably what this will end up being tbh. Same would go if someone was looking for a christian or hindu or jewish guild. Just one of those things.

I'm an atheist myself, so I know how tough it can be to try and find a group of like-minded folks to play with and how difficult it can be to broadcast it to the masses and face the (possible) whirlwind that could be brought.

Good luck in your search though.

Thank you.. I tried broadcasting myself in the chat, in-game, very very hard, as I dont want to argue, but when I dont reply, they resend the same Tells, over & over again.. I just want to get out of this "flaming" as fast as I can and find a suitable guild as a home and leave this trouble behind me, I dont mean to conflict anyone else, as I hope this isnt locked, or flagged of any kind.

Please, if anyone can help me find a suitable guild, that would be lovely

The problem I see is that there is no "Satan" in Norrath.

There are certainly good and evil, and you easily be able to find guilds on the side of evil. But expect that they will follow Cazic-Thule, god of Terror; Innoruuk, Prince of Hate; Rallos Zek, Lord of War; Bertoxxulous, the Plaguebringer; or Anashti Sul, mad goddess of Undeath.

The other thing to keep in sight is the fact that the playerbase in EQ2 is older: the average EQ2 player is an adult in their 30s, and we have a fairly even male-female distribution, with women (suprisingly) being the more intense players. On the other hand, the average Satanist gets started around age 18, and is an unmarried, white male in his mid-twenties with a few years of college. What this means is that Satanists are not likely thick on the ground in EQ2.

OP, I can understand looking for a "home" you can feel comfortable in. But religion, politics, and so on is a very touchy subject at best in RL and more so in a gaming format. Most players play a game to try to leave that aside and just look to come on for relaxation and fun and try to leave real life behind for a short while.

When I play a game I am not all that interested in knowing you or others in RL or make judgements on what you believe or do in RL, I am here to play a game along with others that enjoy the game and have a bit of fun and immerse myself in a virtual world... I myself don't bring real life into that other than, "hello, and how is everyone doing today? Anyone interested in doing this or that with me?".

Good luck finding a guild where you feel comfortable. Unfortunately I don't know of any active Satanic guilds.

I would however like to defend your right to post this query and not have it removed or be harassed for it.

While the eq2 forums may have a policy of closing posts related to religious debate.. This doesn't qualify. The purpose of this post is to find a suitable guild. It may end up getting moved into the guild sub-forum.. Alternatively you may have more luck in the EQ2flames forum, although it's likely to start debate there as well.

To those detractors who say that out of game things need to stay out of game.. That's simply not how guilds actually work. I know of very few guilds that stay in character, if they even get in character ever... While I'm all for the RP, it just doesn't exist for the most part. Generally most people chat about RL things that interest them in guilds and it's absolutely normal to want to find a group with likely minded interests if you're going to be discussing many of these things with them..

Finally I'm not sure where the statistics about what the average age of a satanist came from. But while it's image may be one of adolescent fury.. The most common form of satanism is generally Atheistic and more about reliance on self and the lack of shame for normal biological desires than the worship of any deity.

I have encountered quite a few people who identified as Wiccans and other neopagans, but none that had formed guilds on that basis. I simply have not encountered anyone who identified as a Satanist in-game to date, or anyone aside from the Christian groups that built their guild with RL co-religionists.

I'm not saying it's impossible, but rather that the poster needs to examine their motivations for playing EverQuest 2. If their *primary* goal is to find co-religionists, then EQ2 may not be the best fit, and certainly not the best starting point. He'd do better to find a Satanist internet community forum and find interested gamers there that are already co-religionists, and either get them to join him in EQ2, or find out what games they play. On the other hand, if the OP wants something else as their *primary* goal, say for example an evil RP experience, then they need to look for it as evil, not Satanism, because "evil" wears different names in Norrath.

Does this clarify my earlier post?

When I mentioned I'm not sure where the statistics came from, I was referring to where James Lewis in the Paper you linked got his statistics. He mentions an online questionaire but doesn't go into detail about from what demographic the 150 people who responded were taken from... Because of this I have a difficult time putting faith in his numbers.

I do agree with you, that the Original Poster might have better luck finding or generating a guild in a Satanic Forum of his choosing.. As you say, a Satanist guild would be rather niche... Even primarily Christian guilds are pretty rare and generally very small. But posting on EQ2 forums is certainly worth a try, since EQ2 players are probably pretty niche in Satanic Forums.

I stand by my assertion that since people primarily talk about their interests in guild chat, seeking out a guild of people who share a similar major interest, whatever that interest may be, is a completely valid way of going about finding a guild. As most guilds are fairly general, it is perhaps more difficult to find a guild that fits a specific niche.

I agree with you that if the OP, was just seeking an evil RP experience.. Asking instead about guilds who serve Norrathian gods should be what he does. However from his post it seems he is actually looking for a group of people who share a similiar real life religious background. I feel it's unfair to stigmatize Satanism as Evil though, most Satanists certainly don't see themselves that way.. It's an unfortunate by product of the name and a few publicized radicals.. It's much the same as considering most muslims to be terrorists or most christians to be evangilists.. It's simply not the case and can be construed as potentially offensive.

I appreciate the civil and rational discussion in this thread thusfar. Please be careful to keep to the topic of finding a niche guild and not veer into the subject of the particular niche.

I'm happy to leave the thread open as long as the discussion stays within reasonable and acceptable bounds.

Thank you,Amnerys

In discussing the data, he also gives you the full response data in tables. The overall sample size is fairly small. I found it interesting to note that self-identified Satanists estimated 700-900 as the total American Satanist population, yet a Satanist magazine editor reported circulation in the thousands.

Daivam wrote:

I do agree with you, that the Original Poster might have better luck finding or generating a guild in a Satanic Forum of his choosing.. Call it "Left Hand Path" or "Magick" or whatever, but if it's not the Adversary being Adversarial I think the name is wrong. But this is a discussion for the Non-Gameplay Discussion Forum or to be conducted while waxing elephants over a few beers.

Best bet is to look for a guild that has a policy of leaving the real world at the door. No talking about politics religion war sports, etc etc etc....
