Hello. I'm new to Everquest 2 and could really use some help.

I play on the nagafen server and would like to know if my race/class dictates who I can and can't group with etc.? I have some friends that play I think they are wood elf. Can I make say a sarnak shadowknight and be able to group with them?

Also I'm trying to find a decent solo class, I was reading shadow knights are good. If I can't play a sarnak Shadow knight and group with my friends can anyone suggest a decent solo class I could play and group with my friends?

Thanks.

You can play with your friends regardless of your race and class. However you can not group with them if they are in the opposite alignment. For example if they are a wood elf ranger and you are a sarnak shadowknight then he will start in Good alignment and you will start as Evil. However you can do the betrayal timeline and become an exile. Then you need earn faction with the city of your friend and take your evil shadowknight over to the good side. After that you will be able to group with him.

edit: For more info read: http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Betrayal_Timeline

According to that link my shadow knight would just become a paladin, wouldn't it?

No. Once you finish the timeline you get to chose if you want to be Shadowknight or Paladin at the Paladin trainer.

I'm lost and confused, which is nothing new since I've started playing this game.

I'm up to the quest "Close the door behind you" but have no idea where to go. From the linked wiki it says this "You can access South Qeynos by going from Antonica to The Peat Bog to Vermin's Snye to the Down Below"

That means nothing to me!

The ZAM web site doesn't seem to offer me much help either.

I'm either really dumb or these quests aren't very newb friendly, or both.

So frustrating!

Would appreciate any advice people can give.

Noone should have recommended you doing the betrayal quest line. Doing that quest as a newb is a pain. I suggest re-rolling as a good or neutral race so you can start directly with your friends and first explore the game.

Thanks for the advice about the EQ2 maps, downloaded and installed now.

By the way just spoke to my friend and I was doing the wrong quests, I needed to do qeynos. Thanks to all those 90's camping me at the moment

Ajjantis, it is a pain and very confusing and frustrating. Though I'd really like to play a shadow knight, is there a similar class on the good side?

Though I also do like the sarnaks.

just delete this toon or save him for sometime when you know the lay of the land. nobody should ever have recommended a newbie doing the betrayal quest and nobody will hold your hand through it.

chalk it up to irl xp and roll a pally for now and come back to this toon some time in the future.

Btw, don't try to do the quests for queynos faction because they are hard. Do the ones for Kelethin, they are way easier.

I think that the easiest betrayal quest; from Freeport to Qeynos, is "Party Crashers". Gives 5,000 faction with each completion. Since you start with -50,000, you have to do it 12 times to get the +10,00 faction with Qeynos. Easy quest, if you have a class with Invisability (Brigand) it's a snap. Learn how to get to North Freeport:: The Graveyard> Longshadow Alley> The Thieves Way> to N. Freeport. Good Luck !

It's ok guys I've worked out the captains quest, just need to complete it another 11 times.

I'm not really interested in playing a paladin.

Hopefully by the end of the day I'll be done with this quest line.

Thanks for everyones help, especially those eq2 maps they are lots of help!

Just made it to level 12 and now unable to do the instance. The mobs just kill me over and over. I just can't seem to be able to kill them.

Guess I'm going to have to play a class on the good side, though I'm unsure as to what. None of them really stand out to me.

Dont listen to these people. If you create a crusader you can't group with ANYBODY.
