View Full Version : What makes the best elevated flooring for lofts, etc.?

The low level carpets and rugs I can make at my low level are not solid to stand on, nor can they be sized very large. Which housing items are the best value, and size, to create a raised floor?

the charsis platforms are good but expensive. try the grassy, sandy, wavy sand, mossy or aged planks squares. they're not too much and they work great.

One thing you should take note of that most carpets work one of two ways:

1) They can't be stood on but are visible from beneath

and

2) They can be stood on but are invisible from beneath

This can make creating custom floors/lofts a real pain. However, you can combine some to get both, such as one of my favorites of rough linen rug (top) and ornate cambric rug (bottom). The neat thing about this combination is that the ornate cambric rugs are thinner than the rough linen rugs, which means you can place them at the same elevation and have the ornate cambric ONLY appear from below; in other words, it doesn't interfere with the top rug, in this case the rough linen rug.

There is a comprehensive list of rugs in the Consolidated Norrathian Homeshow you might wish to consult. Hope this all helps.

There may be another thread around here with all the info, but I found this page to be extremely helpful for rugs:

http://eq2decorators.com/Objects/rugs.html

=)

There are also the sandlewood platforms, They can get a bit thick if you grow them a lot, but they generally can reach across an entire room with a single item. Note they will need carpets underneath as they have no bottom (the coalition rug works well) so it's not a simple as a rug that is both solid an visible, but it is an option.

I've also found the Azure rug of the forsaken, I believe its called and the golden rug of the beloved make great platforms as they are both solid to walk on and you get the bottom visible as well. The added bonus is that they grow huge! You may find it easier to locate these on the broker and at least on our server, its not terribly expensive to buy one or two.

Dread Pirate Decorator strikes again!

Kyrayna Thoryl

Coterie of the Damned Lucan D'Lere

There's also the wooden square plank platforms you can get from the Moonlight Madness (Fairy Circle) events run on the 20th of each month. They have a top and a bottom, are solid to stand on, and mesh together nicely. I've made several "platforms" out of them already. Using wooden plank flooring for a floor makes perfectly good sense.

They're also nice in that even while they're limited to the 20th or thereabouts each month you can get 6 of them per character (5 if you don't craft). I've had alts start out lvl 1 and safely made it to every single fairy circle with some work so anyone can do it. That's 6 platforms per character you want to run through it all essentially for free! Ample for building a loft and at a very reasonable price. Just don't expect to find them posted on the broker cheap. They may be free but the markup is incredible.

If you want to go the extra distance throw in a few pillars just to reinforce the structure from below. Even though those spikes on them can be a bit much sometimes. They aren't too expensive on most servers at this point although I realize "too expensive" is somewhat relative.

If layouts ever works again on live I'm very tempted to turn my ratonga brigand's house into a makeshift pirate ship with planked walls at various angles too.
