They are just knights who unfortunately fell to the curse of the Bone Bladed Claymore after the Knights of Thunder built Stormhold.

They may be named, but thats really all there is about them. They dont really have a personal backstory.

lord byron was changed relatively recently, as he spawned infrequently and was needed for a quest, when he spawned before that change he was much more mundane looking, the new armor seems to me to have just been a lark

Also just because they don't currently have any real backstory, other then being Knights of Thunder, who have fallen under the BBC curse, does not mean they won't get one as some point in the future.

Remember the whole lore of Stormhold is lore bending to get a second dungon in Antonica, it was originally going to be Befallen.

Yes, there was a Lady Chessguard. You get pages from her diary from her Handmaidens you kill. I don't think there is an actual Lady Chessguard mob.

I'm a little confused. Is the cures in Stormhold just from the Bone-Bladed Claymoor being present, or was this a spreading of the Befallen Curse that also came with Lord Chessguard when he retrieved the BBC? I know according to the story Lord Chessguard was so obsessed with Befallen that he actually modeled Stormhold after Befallen (the in-game excuse for moving the befallen zone from commonlands to antonica which was done during beta). I wasn't under the impression that the BBC itself was...er...well actually it is cursed but I thought that Stormhold itself was linked in a more direct way to the Befallen curse?

Befallen

'Befallen was once the stronghold of the Order of Marr's Fist. Now it is home to an evil energy that seeks to destroy all light and life, a mighty force that tempts the evil and power-hungry of the world with promises of power whispered to them as they sleep. In truth, these promises are a trap, for even the blackest of hearts can not compare to the darkness within Befallen. More than once, a villain has been lured to this fell place and bound permanently within it. Within this underground tomb living creatures are slowly, inevitably driven mad, and the dead are given a second, vile semblance of life. Creatures trapped within Befallen have their own hierarchy based on their relative power and the favor of the darkness that dwells there. Currently Befallen is commanded by Redak Brokenskull, an undead troll who came to the bunker in hopes of taking its power for his own. Once trapped within, he had to overcome the original agent of darkness (a zombie called Gynok Moltor) and its dark elf agent, Lord L'Rodd. Once in control, Redak made a pact with a group of gnome necromancers to trade their service for the secret of granting unlife. Since the dread gnomes have moved into Befallen it has been remarkably quiet, yet no one trusts that to last long.'

Stormhold is the byproduct of a Curse from Opalla. This is also the reason why the Gnolls of Karan are Hateful of outsiders.

Qeynosians and other outsider races have oppressed them ever since we settled and started building the city. The Gnolls represent the native american tribes from a cultural and historical standpoint. We took their land and hated them because they were different. Back in EQlive, there are certain race/class/diety combos that weren't naturally KOS to the gnolls. An Agnostic Erudite Mage for example, was only apprehensive from when I remember playing one.

It's really a long-standing grudge passed down over the generations.

I remember readign about a female Gnoll who was actually welcoming the new people, the knight who happened to have this bone bladed cleymore. the peopel panicked and cut off Oppala's paw, and since then they were at war, Oppala put a curse on teh bone Cleymore whic heventually defiled Stormhold.

I'm not sure whee I heard that story from, but it's interesting, none the less.

Honestly they should of just up the level on Wailing Caves, and replaced the Orcs with Gnolls and move that to Antonica. Maybe put some ghost bears and ghost druids in there and it could of been "Everfall Grave" or some such. Then lowered the level on Fallen Gate and everything would of been fine and dandy. I really, really resent the existance of Storm Hold just because everybody back then knew that it was Befallen moved to Antonica.

Not that I don't love the current Befallen zones, its just Storm Hold never should of existed (as a carbon copy of Befallen).

Most of it just comes from general oppresion.

Well, Stormhold also shows what apparently happened to the Knights of Thunder (the paladins/priests of Karana that resided in Qeynos) from EQ1. Yeah, it was a tweak to move Befallen to Antonica and rename it, but without it the question of what happened to all of them would be kind of unresolved.

There is no lore reason behind the existance of Wailing Caves. Its totally new for EQ2. There is a Lore reason for Befallen to be in the Commonlands. Even better, there are Lore reasons for a convient set of caves that could have undead druids, rangers, and grizzly bears in it connected to Qeynos Hills.

You'll have to excuse me for perfering the Lore explination to the game play one, especially given which forum this is posted in.

The players complained a lot but the dev producer at the time didn't want to hear it. There have been three (or more?) producers since then and they all seemed a lot more responsive to the player's complaints.
