I think the "glowing black rock" line is actually "glowing black stone". Perhaps you need to be wearing that particular item (from the heritage quest) to see the book? Here's my stab at that whole paragraph: In order to reveal the notes you will need a piece of a mineral that can disrupt spacial ???. I believe that such a mineral exists on Norrath in small quantities, and may have been experimented on by none other than Varsoon himself as he researched an item of power known as the glowing black stone. Seek out this item, and it should allow you to break my spell.

Hey guys, this is Orson from Antonia Bayle posting the SPOILER here, so if you don't want to know the ending and figure it out for yourself, disregard the post. By the way thanks again Cronyn for giving us something fun to do, looking forward to the next puzzle.

So as those before me already guessed from puzzling together the parchment clues, the Glowing Black Stone was the rare mineral in question. The riddle itself mentions the Vaults of El'Arad, on Isle of Awakening in Barren Sky, where the first in game clue can be found. You need to be wearing the GBS heritage item and inside the first room at approximate location: -41, -6, +131 (thank you Befallen.Klornie) there is a pedestal that is clickable and awards you a "torn-hand written note". For those not into locs, this is the first room of the zone, off to the left hand side at the end of the incline. The item itself doesn't offer a quest but gives you a clue that leads you to either Freeport or Qeynos (possibly other?) libraries where you talk to the head sage in each. Indus Surion (Qeynos) or Navarius Orvalis (Freeport) have an extra script that mentions the scroll when hailed, you can then buy the "Assistant Researcher's Notes, Vol. 1, Halls of Erudin" from the Sages for 1g 20s. Hope this helps, Enjoy the lore all!

Orson Coldwind

Sounds to me like someone is spoiled by a world with Wikipedia.

Not all aspects of the game should be available to solo players. 90% of it already is, and the little that raiders had access to was already complained about like crazy. Now, there's some in an extremely easy group zone 10 levels under current cap right by the entrance that sadly isn't available in the library.

This zone is fully capable of being done by 3 level 65s, and this book is accessable by anyone with invis totems. I'm all for lore being available to everyone, but putting a book in a zone where very few people go attracts people to an otherwise empty place.

If the next book is any different, I'll be disappointed.

Black ore eh?... since we are going to Odus in the next expansion.. perhaps the "glowing black stone" is reference to the black Zraxthril ore found in Torgiran mines? They were part of the Gulf of gunthak on odus.

I asked in guild chat for some help after dying a couple of times. 3 guildies offered to assist and we had a blast. They hadn't been to that zone for a while so kept mentoring me after I received the note and we explored to my exp gain. (The alt is not level 19.)

Good Grief! I don't expect Heritage quests to be accomplished in 1 pass at most levels and I surely don't expect forum/lore quests to be a 1 pass, walk in the park experience no matter how much I may or may not contribute to the conversation.

This is not a tradeskill faction quest by the way. It is completely different...a forum/lore quest.

Love all the information and speculation on this forum. Folk here have amazing imaginations! I know there is a better word but that is the best I can come up with without my morning coffee.

Cheers to the lore freaks and the lore dev(s)!

First and foremost, people that are actually interested in the lore of this game should get a toon to level 80.

This is not hard to do at all, and does not need to be the toon you consider to be your "main". If you are one of those people that likes to turn off quest experiance and take their time, have at it on your main, but have a level 80 alt at the level cap if you wish to experiance as much of the lore as you can.

Secondly, if you are REALLY in to the lore of the game and want to experiance it as much as you can, make that level 80 toon as "powerful" as you can. Join a guild that runs heroic instances often, or even (/gasp!) a guild that raids.

Not every piece of lore in the game should be avalible to every low level player. It makes no sense that nagafen, as an example, would consider some nub that just walked off the Isle as someone that is able to do something for him.

If nothing else, players doing this would mean the developers can place items of interest to lore seekers in a place that is appropriate, without the worry of people saying that they should be able to see what Anushti Sul says when she dies as a level 6 character.

I believe these to be of immense importance not only to learning more about the past of Norrath, but also may hold the key to discovering more about the fate of my ancestral home, the continent of Odus. However, I believe I have also uncovered a deeper mystery, one with potentially grim implications. It seems that some of our assumptions of the fate of Odus, and of the Erudites themselves, may be shrouded within a veil of deception. I cannot be sure, but it seems that there is much to be learned here.Although I was able to deceive the Quellithulians of The Vault of El Arad, I believe that my very life could be in jeopardy. Thus, I must do as I can to retain my anonymity. The tome that I am sending should be copied and given to the populace of Norrath, but not widely so. If the Quellithulians discover that this information is getting out, then they may close their doors and none will learn of these important facts.I will send you the other volumes as I can decipher them. I have discovered another possible volume near the front of the Vault, and will attempt to glean what I can from it. Should I be discovered, I will hide my notes within the tome, but will suspend it within a temporal bubble. In order to reveal the notes, you will need a piece of a mineral that can disrupt spatial relativity. I believe that such a mineral exists on Norrath in small quantities, and may have been experimented on by none other than Varsoon himself as he researched an item of power known as the Glowing Black Stone. Seek out this item, and it should allow you to break my spell.I will contact you again once I have more for you, although I cannot be sure when that might be. Until then, be wary, as those who wish this information hidden might be all around you.Sincerely, An Esteemed Colleague
