Wish I was lucky enough to get in on launch day. Sadly my order won't arrive until wensday thanks to bestbuy.

From the looks of it, it seems like this is expected to be a much smoother expansion roll out than some prior.

I would highly recommend you find a back up place to kill time during downtime because when RoK came out these forums were extremely bogged down and almost inaccessible during the patch time.

Any word on when the software patches are going to start? I thought they'd started already but I only see a few megs of new files. Some of us can just copy our Beta files, but everyone else is hoping to be able to start downloading TSO files now, even if some of them change in the next 72 hours.

Technical question here: with past expansions parts of the expansion were pushed ahead of time through the BITS service. Was it the case with RoK as well?

Kiara wrote:

Yes, parts of this expansion have been Bits'd.

Thanks Kiara.

If memory serves right, you have to tell the EQ2 Launcher to "Download as I Play" for it to start downloading it in background. Mine was disabled here - now that I enabled it it seems to have started trickling down a good bunch of files:

C:Windowssystem32>bitsadmin /listBITSADMIN version 3.0 [ 7.0.6001 ]BITS administration utility.(C) Copyright 2000-2006 Microsoft Corp.{11B3028D-AC8C-4BA9-8D8D-800574CF41ED} 'SOE [EverQuest 2|Main Distribution-bitsonly|0]Username' TRANSFERRING 0 / 104 10574 / 793710481Listed 1 job(s).

So for shorter download times on Launch Day, it's probably a good idea for people to go into their Launcher, click on "Preferences", and make sure both options are set to "Download while I play". Windows will then start downloading the expansion files in background whenever the bandwith is unused. This will be quite a few hundred megs less to download on Launch Day

There is not a single retail company here in Sweden that claims the release date to be nov. 18th. They ALL note the release date for the expansion as nov. 28!

WHAT?

Either you (SOE) sell the expansion in retail here, and then you should be decent enough to make sure you can give it to us at the same day as everyone else. Or just do as you obviously do to the Australians (see post above) and dont sell it at all. This sux tbh.

(Oh and the retail companies dont say that they cant ship it or anything, they just note the release date as 28th. Which is obviously a lie.)

There are other bears in TSO besides the boxed version. Once I found that out, I quit worrying about the retail and just went directdownload.

So, I'm buying the expansion tomorrow. Should I start patching as soon as I can (before I head off to work), or should I wait until I get the game, install it, and put the CD key into the system?

Scratch all of that. I didn't notice that the game goes live on Tuesday, not Monday.

Well as suspected HMV (UK) are out of stock and they're blaming their suppliers. No ETA. Not willing to call the supplier. Looks like they did not actually have anywhere close to what they'd need for their special pre-orders. Estimates on a standard order on their site is now two weeks. Its a [Removed for Content] shambles, and if it hadn't been for the disparity with content I'd have gone for the DD direct.

Okay guys..this is the first year I did the retail box, but with all other disc installs I have done with other games, at the end of the install I get the option to put my code in. I know we cant put our codes in yet, but where do we put the codes in? I installed and did the patch already this morning.

Did I miss something?

Everyone's got their own expectations and decided what they wanted. The mount might not be as good as a 32Plat mount but from what I've read its not bad. That and I rather fancied the minature too.

The house item didn't interest me so the choice was fairly easy personally. All that aside I agree the DD would be the most convenient and perhaps that's why its made especially difficult to find in the shops. I visit these stores today.

HMV

Virgin (Zavvi)

Gamestation

Game

WH Smith.

This is in a major city in the UK. None of them had it on the shelves. 3 of them didn't even have it listed on their system and only one was able to get it as a 'special order' in upto 28 days.

Again I say shambles. Not blaming SEO, who of course can't predict what their 3rd parties will farm out to Joe Public. However everywhere I went the face of WOW and its end caps, points of sale and retail boxes lined the shelves. I do wonder at how much effort was put into the physical release... And for an inferior imho game it's surprising to me*.

*Edit WoW being the inferior game I mean
