Hey! It's not a complaint post! Woohoo! Move this post if you need to. I didn't think it 'quite' fit in under the 'look and feel' section since that is more of a graphic related forum. I was playing this morning and as I was running through lower tier zones, harvesting raws for tinkering, I took the time to actually LOOK around the zone as I was harvesting. This led me to believe that a lot of people are in such a rush that they probably never notice the little touches and in-game jokes/messages that seem so subtle. I just wanted the devs to know that I appreciate all the effort and these subtle things in-game are not overlooked by everyone. Some examples:- When I go backwards (back up) on my worg, my character actually turns her head and looks behind her.- The shooting stars at night are amazing- NPCs named Jimbo, Dolph and Kearney in The Windstalker Village (I giggled when I saw these guys!)- A quest NPC in Jarsath Wastes named 'Selrahc' (Charles spelled backwards) and, what I believe to be a tribute to his one and only there is another NPC in the same zone named Nybor Efiw (Wife Robyn). How sweet!- The NPCs Orly and Yarly (another one that made me giggle!)I'm sure there are other amazing things in Norrath...subtle jokes and messages, little character quirks that might be overlooked, etc. I would love to hear about some that others have seen.

I get a big kick out of the Troll (tailor) merchant in Big Bend by the name of Darby. Dunno why, really, he's just really lovable (for a Troll).

Another one that always makes me smile is a female Troll npc that wanders around EFP - I can't recall her name atm - she says things like, "GEE, you smell WONDERFUL!"

Then there's the female Ogre (also in EFP) who advises, "Don't try to make a lady out of ME and I won't make one out of YOU!"

As a long time horsewoman I'm always happy when I see the bottom hoof structure modeled somewhat correctly, even though its a minor thing rarely seen. Its always fun to notice the tiny moths fluttering around the South FP streetlamps some nights. First time I noticed that was a stop and say Wow moment.

I like breathing. I think it's something I got addicted to shortly after being born. So it feels good to start doing so again upon landing after plummeting off a high ledge. It amazes me that the sense of vertigo and nausea during a plummet transfers inside game. Not that it's something SoE contrived and made happen, it just does, but I feel a grin forming as I advance upon a ledge knowing what's coming.

And speaking of breathing, I like how our characters actually breathe. They're not just mannequins sitting still and motionless. There's also the lizardmen in The Feerrot: Evil Ew, Tae Ew, Evol Ew (Backwards? We Love, We Eat, We Live) I love the way the magma in Lavastorm and Skyfire Mountains moves and the way the heat shimmers. And speaking of zones, my favorite zones of all time in this entire game are Lavastorm, Everfrost and Felwithe. Those three zones are absolutely gorgeous and the developers for those zones deserve a lot of credit and a pat on the back.

For me, it's the comments various Freeport NPCs make when they see your race walking down the street.

Nine out of ten times when a Dark Elf see's my High Elf necro, they praise Inny for an evil High Elf. There is/was (haven't seen him lately) a Gnome in WFP that would get down on his knees and beg not to be punted whenever I walked near him with my Troll.

Qeynos comments, even to races that are supposed to live there... eh, city of peace... HA! My Half Elf ranger wants to pop some of those NPCs in the nose. LoL

Ah, and the holiday live events... the little jokes in there are always fun... esp the two Erollosi Day merchants.... hehehe... Oh, and can't forget the 300 referance if you go back and talk to one of the NPCs required for teh first Bertox quest...

Of coarse... that's just goofy stuff. For the more 'serious' it's gotta be teh whitecaps on the waves of a few zones, how the rain actually affects lighting.. etc etc

Something I missed the first time through and noticed later hanging with a friend. The shackle monk questline in Kunzar jungle. You do basic quest then have to fight a monk in a cage match. The very first opponent is (I think I got spelling) "Glazjo". I realized that the very first opponent in an old-school video boxing game was "Glass Joe". I can still hear the announcer announcing the name in my head. I think the game was "Super Punch Out". Possibly the same name was used in Mike Tyson's Punch Out for the Nintendo.

I love the butterflies that fly around in some areas. The fireflies in the Froglok Village are so neat looking.Speaking of the Froglok Village, I got a chuckle out of the NPC named Kermit The Trotters in EL that follow me around when I am there harvesting are so cute! When I did the murder mystery questline, there was a quest called "Broker, Nearly Killed Ya!". I laughed so hard at this quest name! There's also a quest in Fens called 'Death to Sneut'chi' (I think I spelled that right), which is a reference to the movie 'Death To Smoochy' (a hilarious movie, if you haven't seen it).The NPC guards that salute my high level character when I walk by. As someone else mentioned, the white sea spray that comes off the waves in Timorous Deep is so amazing. The snow that suddenly appears in Everfrost as you walk into the Bitterwind Trench is cool looking too.If you are in the Temple of Cazic Thule and go into the lower tunnels there, the eyeballs on the vines actually follow your movements. They're always staring you down! It's kind of creepy! And one of the more memorable ones that had me laughing so hard I almost choked on my drink: I was working on my epic quest and one of the steps requires getting robes for a fortune teller in Loping Plains (you can harvest them or buy them). The NPC tells me she wants those robes and my character says something to the effect of, "Robes? Sure! Paying well for robes! Meet me at SS docks!" LOL

Something cool i noticed the other day, running around on my Crusader hearing his boots clomp with each step, then i loaded up my Bruiser who is visibly barefoot, and hearing the sound of bare feet on the ground, then hearing sand crunching underfoot when he went down to the beach. Very nice touch..

My favorite in-game joke:

Dawnfear, the Reaper from Shard of Fear. Has a worn effect of Bos Bovis Carillon. Effect description: You gotta have more!

This kind of thing is a long standing EverQuest tradition from way back in '99 with the original EverQuest. Things like the barbarians Lars and Ulrich, the dwarven bankers Mort and Gage, or my favorite: Jenniy's Two-Tone Breastplate with the first row of stat bonuses creating the sequence 8675309.

I love it when the devs throw in stuff like that.

I love this bg sound...go to Nek Castle, go up to the top of the roof, then into one of the towers...turn off music, have ambience turned up high...sit and listen.Whispered screams from a woman...screamed whispers for help.../shudderI run with music off inside Stormhold, Down Below, any crypt type place...love the whisperings and such. Living Tombs is downright creepy. Oh, and Unrest...omg I love the ambience there! I had music off, just ambience the first time I went thru it, was jumpy all night. The floors of Eye of Solusek...flowing liquid magma...gorgeous.When I saw the run animation for my Paladin's rhino I hurt so much from laughing...it skips...and Pheep looks like she's holding on for dear life. Tho I really like the petting of the rhino animation, better than just sitting on the animal and doing nothing. And there's an interesting animation when you hit space bar and nothing else.Oh, and how darned graceful rhinos are when they leap...omg...laughed so hard on that one, too.Skellies that yell "Brains! It's what's for DINNER!". The Anaz Mal gnolls who growl "No fair! It's MY turn to hit you!". Whenever an orc dies and yells "Someone get me a shaman!" or "Hold that one down and cut off its hands!". Sandscrawler goblins yelping "Uh oh, that's not good!". Lamias saying "You hit like a slave!"Jaled Dar's ghost in Field of Bone...I still stop and watch him whenever there.Spiroc sayings: Enemy at 12 o'clock! I'm going down! I don't wanna cracker! (that one had me laughing so hard when I first heard it that it's buddy killed my toon)Blackburrow gnolls: Uhoh, I think I go now!During the Brell god event, the cannibalistic gnolls had me laughing, especially when the NPC said "How about that little one? No one will notice..."The Barbarian on Dreg's, his whole questline of how he's darned SURE that the drachnids are up to something. And Hunter Snake Eye and his conspiracy theory on the brutes and gorillas. The Shatterhorn with the brutes (yetis). The quest where you place the larval worm in Varis...the mayhem it causes.I'm loathe at times to learn Fayefolk language...the faeries sound so [Removed for Content] off as they yell at you in their language. The eerieness of Bonemire.

I enjoyed humorous Volant Language quest in Barren Sky - probably my favorite. Fun remarks coming from Blorgok the Brutal during the corresponding fight in Protector's Realm (something like "I'm taunting, I'm taunting! Keep your dress on!", addressed at their female scout). Many things that I also enjoy was already mentioned in several posts above. Keep those coming!

I babbled in guild chat for 10 minutes till people came to see.
The ghost dragon, while cool, is utterly senseless. Why is there a ghost over Jaled'Dar's remains when Jaled'Dar's shade is supposedly residing within the Dragon Necropolis of the Claws of Veeshan on Velious. Did I miss some important Lore tidbit here?

I'm surprised noone has mentioned Slamhammer.... Can't touch this!I also laughed the first time I heard an orc in The Ruins ask in the middle of combat, "Does anyone have a firebeetle eye? Oh... nevermind."

I've always liked the way the stars twinkle in the night sky. Unrealistic, sure, but the effect works to make everything seem a little more vibrant and, well, magical.

I love the lava under the glass floor down by the giants in Solusek Eye, was really neat walking over it back when lava killed instantly.

What about Trapper Coalbear in Butcherblock Mountains? "The number one threat to Butcherblock is..." is the name of his quest I believe, and what is the number 1 threat to Butcherblock?? BEARS!!! You gotta kill like 20!!Lol, I love The Colbert Report, and anyone who watched it knows Stephen has a definite hatred for Bears lolol.Little stuff in the game also. I have my macro set up to let people know when I am about to pull, a few months back I decided to add in another line of command to the pull macro. /battlecry Yelling "FOR KALADIM", and "BY BRELL'S BEARD" when my dwarf zerker is rushing a mob to beat the tar out of it makes the game infinitely more enjoyable to me.

Eat, survive, reproduce. Nice find, never thought of that.
First noticed this in EQ1 many many moons ago. Both EverQuest 1 and 2 have always been great at adding little things to produce a smile. There are so many, way too many to remember or list for one person. I love these threads though, I always read them fully and learn new ones quite often. One that comes to mind (in EQ1) in the Bazaar, the merchant that sells trader satchels is named "Tekrama" .. which is "a market" backward. As far as EQ2 goes, I like the humor lines a little better than EQ1 I think. As mentioned before, I love how grey con mobs will shrink away from you, afraid of you. Little things like that make the game so much more entertaining!I know everyone has noticed this, but I love the way NPC's look at you and follow you as you move. It really makes the game feel so much more immersive. I love the tailored responses and comments depending on your race - you can find those all over.My mind is brimming with examples just out of reach. If this thread continues to thrive I will come back with more and i hope others do the same.To the OP, I absolutely agree. It's the little things.

I normally play with my game sound off (typically listen to music when I play) but lately, I have turned it back on and I am thoroughly enjoying it. Right now, I am working on a movie for our guild and I asked a troll guildie to do some emotes for the camera while we were forming up for a raid last night. He did the /flirt emote and when I heard his emote, I nearly fell out of my chair! Just the way he says, "Would you like to come over for DINNER?!?!?!". I made him do that silly emote about 5 times just so I could hear that voice over and over.
