I happened to come across a new Guide event in Butcherblock mountains yesterday.... It was actually a great time. As a reward, I was given a title and a recipe page to make decorative axes to be placed in your home. These things are quite amazing to look at. I do not think that the pics that I have made can do them justice. The intricacies and detail on some of them are beautiful!Decorative Dwarven BattleaxeDecorative Executioner's AxeDecorative Runed Executioner's AxeDecorative Runed Crescent AxeDecorative Ceremonial HatchetDecorative Ceremonial Dwarven PickaxeDecorative Runed BattleaxeDecorative Square-Headed AxeDecorative CleaverHere I am in the pic to give you an idea of their sizes, there are a few that are quite large. They are made with Tier 1 components and Bronze as the main ingrediant. If anyone would like different pics, let me know. I have them placed in Laurianna's acorn in Aerie Kolmas, Kuranya's Stronghold at 1 Compassion Road in Freeport, and later to be in Elorah's Neriak home at 3 Walk of the Dead (all located on Butcherblock Server)Laurianna and Shalindria, the Axe Masters I hope that these pics are better *edit* added clicky link to pics for better viewing (I hope)

Ohh! I forgot, there's new ones! heheThey seem like they would be perfect for inside the guild halls, don't they? Some of them are almost too pretty to be axes.

Was this a Guide Event in the right time/place kinda thing, or was it a limited time quest like the Elf/Ogre/Halfing skeleton guy or the Snowman in EF?

It was a guide event that our senior guide posted about in our forums (as a heads up)... I am not sure, but I only saw 4 people on my server do this event Me and a few members of my guild....It took place in BBM with the Guide NPC wanting axes from all over BBM. Once collected we received the recipe book that contained the 9 recipes of axes. Afer the turn in, we were to speak with the Guide again to gain the title.

It's still very new, I think gu48 was what brought in, if i'm not mistaken. So if you have missed it I'm sure it will be around again.

Do you recall what the name of the book was? I saw it linked once on Test but haven't seen it again. However, the axes have started turning up on the broker on Guk (at 12p per!!!!) so I know the guides have been around As most of the guide rewards are tradeable I am thinking I might have a better chance at buying the book on the broker than finding a guide offering the quest, but I suspect the book would be extremely pricey.

I still don't watch that often even though I now see my server's guide will post things. All the hours I've played this game the last 4 years and I have only seen 2 GM events which both hardly had any people involved. They are held either daytime when I'm at work, or during raid time, or in zones I don't touch because, well, I'm not level 15 hanging out in commonlands and antonica .I don't count drinking contests, which used to happen 90% of the time in Qeynos anyway on my server. Those axes are so cool, I hope I catch the event someday! That will make me watch harder.

Even reading the forums, my track record with finding guide events is abysmal.Only one found by accident, and one I actually caught the announcement for. That said, I hoep I get to find this one cause those axes are truely spectacular, and having them be recipes is genious.

Guide events appear to be a dwindling occurance, running low on guides or w/e. Used to be a regular event, now rare to see 1 event in a regular play time. They're a load of fun, just now seems to be horribly inconvenient times -- like early AM hours, or in the evening when everyone's doin the hour long instances, or 3-5hr raids.

I have noticed that the Guide events are posted in waves.... which is why I try to make them when I see them. In this case, the rewards were amazing and I LOVE them! I guess that Butcherblock is lucky that we have Miss Squeecha who seems to be one of the more vocal guides on the forums...You just need to know where to look and keep an eye on it. I will usually do a quick looksie once a day in case....I missed out on the Mistletoe and I am sickened by this....

Nope, because its not a mob or npc in game, its a reward offered by guides who run live events in game. Do a /who all guide periodically, and keep an eye on your server's forum to try to see if an event is running.

I arrived halfway through a guide event on crushbone today. The guide refused to let me help out, and just told me to stay vigilant. These guides are the worst way you could possibly have chosen to handle events in norrath. They are a nightmare for carpenters like myself who enjoy decorating, and have virtually no chance of happening to be in the right place at the right time for these things. Way to kill the fun factor sony =/ps. the greenrobes on crushbone have not posted anything in a whole month.

Keep in mind that the past month is one of the busiest months of the year for many people. Between summer holidays, school starting, work picking up in many industries... well, the guides are volunteers with real lives. Hopefully now that the Sept rush is almost over things will get back to the usual schedule. And if folks think that there aren't enough guide events, perhaps more should volunteer . I don't know how it works, but I suspect that guides probably have some pretty stringent restrictions on what they can and can't do.

This actually makes me sad since the Kithicor Guides stopped posting about quests. I'm a graduate student and I work many hours in a lab each day, which means my play time isn't as much as I wish it was. As it is, my chances of running into a Guide are slim, and even if I am online it's hard to know when they're in a certain part of the world unless I'm doing /who all guide every 15 minutes. However, the new quests look really, really fun. I'm sad that I had to miss out on so many pies and muffins, and I'm sad that my decorator probably won't get this recipe book, but I do thank the Guides for all their hard work and dedication to the players. To those that have expressed dissatisfaction with the Guides' running of the quests, please keep in mind that they're players just like us who dedicate their free time to give us special and fun things. We should be happy we get such a service from such caring players. I for one have purely enjoyed all the quests I've been involved in on Kithicor, and I'm glad to see them about when I do get the chance Also, those axes are freaking awesome.

There has to be a better way to do guide/GM events. I've been playing this game since close to launch and I've seen about 3 guide events which weren't that great. They get posted sometimes now on the forums but they end up either being during day work hours most of the time. I live in Freeport. Every time a friend tells me an event is in ANTONICA or Thundering steppes or Gfay, its alost always gone by the time I get there. The few I saw and the ones my friends tell me of there is usually 2-5 people around to get the quests and they aren't there for long giving them. You can't tell me this is a fair system and that I have just been in the wrong place at the wrong time every single day for 4 years. I had to buy my tortured skeletons and my friend was lucky to get the axes so I'm going to have to have him make them.My suggestion:Make it server wide messages. Then EVERYONE who wants to partake has the same amount of time to get there instead of finding out about it when there is 30 secs to get across the world. I doubt it would be overwhelming to the guides giving the quests, there is only a small handful of people (on my server) who really would care to run and do it.

Heula wrote:
The Guides are definitely around! Keep your eyes and ears open, you never know when you'll spot one of us - at varying times of the day all days of the week!
The problem is that most folks don't have the time to be on all the time just hoping to catch a guide event. I have only ever seen one event on Oasis, and that was only because I happened to zone into the zone it was happening in....but as they were wrapping up. There was no notice of it on the boards, nor anything said of it in any general chat channels, so basically you just had to happen to be in the zone when it started to be able to participate. It just seems that some servers are really well informed about guide events, and on other servers there is little to no communication at all. I just think it would be nice if there was some sort of standard across all servers.

Does anyone know if the event has already taken place on Blackburrow? I checked the Blackburrow forums, but I don't see any guide postings there since Riesling on May 7th

Hi guys. Kehlee, Everfrost Guide here. I have had the pleasure of running many quests/RP events with the wonderful people on Everfrost and I know of at least twice that the Axe quest has been run. Most servers - and I do say most because I can't speak for all- do run quests a number of times a week and most do post on their server community on these forums about when/what is being run. Keep an eye out for the posts on your forums or start a post there asking the guides to let you know when/what is being done for your server. We do this voluntarily to make the game more fun not in an attempt to frustrate people more. So don't get fed up, just post on your forums and be patient. You'll get it- we'll run it as/when we can. See you all around (well at least you EF peeps!)

Is there anything wrong with a calendar linked from the login page? I know there's theoretically a guide page with calendar but all I ever see on it are SWG events, at least nothing is ever posted for Mistmoore.....SWG seems to have WAY the edge on EQ2 as far as event notification for their servers. We have easy to use Guildportal calendars and many other calendar options for guilds that don't want to use Guildportal as well....every guild webpage has a monthly calendar of some sort. You can't tell me it isn't that easy for EQ2 to put up a monthly event calendar for each server.

Posting on the forums is a VERY ineffective way to announce ANYTHING to the majority of players, as the majority of players never COMES HERE. And if they do, the chances of them looking at a server forum are miniscule. I can agree that it would be counterproductive to do worldwide announcements for Guide events....I remember in EQ1 how many times zones were crashed due to live events, and I actually FOUND a live event recently on my server but it was meant for GROUPS and I ended up being the odd person out /cry. Events in which you have to form a group really annoy me. I spent a good thirty minutes just locating in Antonica where the event was, and then standing there while the Guides said form up groups, and when the two groups were formed, there I was groupless. I think I could have managed to Oink like a pig and chase the pig guides to the farm without a group! All the Guides need to do is keep a list of participants like they did for the diving event (one of the only two guide events I've participated in in the entire time the game has been live).

But the main thing would at least be to announce things on a calendar! A calendar people who don't bother to come to the forums could see easily.

WHOA!!!! Guides posting on the forums when and where an event will be?!?

Let me tell you all, things have gotten better if this is true. (I haven't seen it...)

Believe me, I was a guide for a while in EQI, and we were not allowed to say ANYTHING!!!

Most events we were allowed to run, you had to follow a STRICT script. SOE would go over the logs for the session, and we would get yelled at if we changed the script.

As far as sending worldwide messages, NO WAY! Only if the script called for it. We could noteven poke our heads into the next zone and OOC to raise awareness of our being there. This was the main reason I left, aside from no longer being able to help players with their problems...

Anywho, if this has changed, and you can actually have fun with the events and the players, please, let me know, all you guides out there now, asI would love to ome back!

Its me again! I just ran this axe quest on wed afternoon, and even tho I used a zone emote (guide thingy) to garner interest in several surrounding zones off of butcherblock, I only had 6 people show up and at least 2 were alts of one other.

In response to Aubalys' post about guides being allowed to post about quests... we're here to make the game a bit more fun and add a bit more interaction. Speaking for the EF server guideset- we LOVE talking to people and hinting whats coming. Yes, we do have scripts for the quest but most if not all do give some leeway for RPing with those that come to play when you are doing the quest. There are still limits of course ( we won't tell you how to complete the quest or tell you where the update is or what the reward is for coming back to us if its not a quest requirement) but we do all we can to make it fun. We use zone emotes (usually preceded by a **guide event** by many of us) to gather interest and hint to people when/where the event is starting. And I know we've posted many times on the EF forum about upcoming events and their times/locations. So... please don't be upset with us- remember we're doing this as volunteers in our spare time. I have a very limited time to play (as a mom with 2 and 3 year old sons and an online business) so I have to make sure I do this in what little bit of time I get during the week just for me. If I had the time I'd run quests every day or at least be on every day to chat and hang out with people, but I can't so I just do what I can when I can. Please if there's a quest you know you want to see, feel free to PM me and I'll let ya know a general time if its scheduled (at least for EF- you other servers take it up with your guides!!) We wanna make it fun and happy- not make you upset you didn't get in on it. And keep in mind if ya missed it this time- there's always next time!

Domino, there's one thing that is bothering me on those axes : they are one sided and I can't flip them. Could there be a way to flip the items ? So we could cross them, like those ?
