I've been trying to find an answer to this question for some time now; the question is two-fold:1. Can a necro's DoTs crit? (initial attack/periodic damage)2. If so, how much value is placed on raising my spell crit %? (is it more logical to prioritize int instead, or keep a nice balance?)Thanks in advance

Spell crits work by taking whatever damage you would have done, and adding 30% to it. If that number happens to fall below the maximum, it will bump it up to max + 1 damage.IE: You have a spell that does 500-1000 damage. If it hits for 500 and crits, it will be bumped up to 1001 (500 + 30% is less than 1000, so it gets bumped to max + 1).If it hits for 800 and crits, it will be bumped to 1040 (800 + 30% is 1040).If it hits for 1000 and crits, it will hit for 1300 (1000 + 30% is 1300).This is before factoring debuffs, and other things.DoTs can crit. If the initial hit crits, the entire duration of the DoT will be a crit too.

I ask because Im pretty sure I've seen examples in ACT where the initial hit will crit and either none of the dots do or only some. Might it be some dots do but not others? I can't really be sure to be honest but i'm almost certain i've seen an initial hit crit but the dots didn't.

yes, every tick of a dot will crit if the initial amount crits.

Agreeing with Sabutai:

If you want, you can create a chat tab with your Damage in it with Criticals checked - AND have crits in a different text color-- when a dot crits you will be able to see it easier. I use it some when soloing to keep an eye on my damage so I don't pull aggro from my Adept3 Fighter pet-- (The fact he has a tough time with aggro is a complaint for another thread or two already going)
