Lately, I have been frustrated by the options for mounts with the best stats. For example, I am a pally, and I want to ride a white horse. My horse of choice is a white mistrunner, which has a run speed of 48% and 200 mitigation for magic damage.

However, from the last expansion, there are several mount options that have much better speed and stats, all of them dogs (wargs with slobber dripping from their mouths), rhinos, and green or wierd color horses. I don't want to ride a dog, rhino, or green horse, but that disadvantages me stat-wise. I am certain things will only become worse when a new mount (probably the dire bear) is added in the next expansion with even better stats.

Why not strip ALL stats off mounts, give them a straight 24% run speed, and borrow from the adornment system to create two adornment-type objects that you can buy to adorn mount whistles: (1) shoes (as in horseshoes), and (2) saddles.

The SHOES would increase run speed (i.e. iron = 10%, silver = 15%, gold = 20%, platinum = 25%, blessed = 30%, etc.). All mounts could be upgraded to whatever run speed the devs deem as the top speed.

The SADDLES would control other stats. One saddle might offer mitigation and defense, whereas another would offer increased physical damage, whereas another would offer increased magic damage.

The mount adornments would be purchased from the same vendors as the mounts for plat and/or status, and would be one-use item that could be applied to mount whistles.

I think this type of system has several HUGE advantages over the current system:

(1) People could ride WHATEVER they wanted. They choose the look (with some being more expensive than others), the stats they want, and the run-speed they can afford. Upgrading your mount is as easy as buying a new saddle or shoes.

(2) In many ways, it will simplify the mount system. You will have 15-20 flavors of mounts, 5 or so shoes (run speeds), and 10-12 saddles (stat combinations). You don't have to create 100s of separate mount whistles that mix-and-match all the different combinations of species, speed, and stats...you just create the components and let people create their own combinations.

(3) It makes itemization for devs MUCH easier. The developers do not have to create new Wargs, Rhinos, Horses, and other mounts (unless they just want to add new looks) when they upgrade mounts in the next expansion. They just create 2-3 new saddles and maybe one additional level of shoe (speed), and let people update the stats on current types of mounts. This might not save much work for the next expansion (as the system itself will take work to implement). However, it should save a ton of effort for future updates.

Please give us more flexibility in mounts!
