this issue is plaguing many users. I had to do a complete install of vista that didn't fix the issue so I reinstalled eq2 (into a new folder) and bingo issue was gone in both new and old installations. It appears somehow a file or registery setting is getting corrupted when other programs are installed cuz I reinstalled 2 programs and bingo issue appeared again. It always points to either e:liveeq2 or in the case of the 2nd time it appeared e:testeq2

I have no idea which file or reg key is getting trashed but SoE should really find this and its reference and make sure it can't be written to or rewritten once installed or it should find out what xml programs are messing with this key.

What other programs did you install when you got this issue?

When this happened i got the "disc cleaner pro" program and directX 9. I did everything exactly how the forums said with no luck after the first fix......... I don't know if it matters but I am also using profit UI and EQ2 maps..........

For me the 2 programs installed was PowerISO and UltraISO both of which follows the lines of what I've been seeing. ISO, Nero, Diskcleaners and defrag programs.

I also had installed Microsoft XML update and MS Office 2007

Might also add I had installed Directx june update which wasn't reversable and resulted in the reinstall. But seems people who have posted about the gamma ramp issue are having it after an install of some sort.

With the enhanced security on that particular directory it has been suggested to create a new folder off the root of the drive, then install the applications that have these issues in that directory. For example c:games then eq2 would be installed in c:gameseq2. This appears to alleviate a lot of the issues with the virtual registry keys and virtual user data directories that are created by the new security model that Vista utilizes.

Have been using this method for a long period of time and have had very few issues with any application. The only things that gets installed into the ..Program Files is MS applications, nothing else

Firm believer in O'Tooles Law - which states Murphy was a optimist. Not really sure what is triggering the error for you, can't even begin to build a test box to see if it can be reproduced. Have you posted your dxdiag and msinfo as per the request anyplace here?

I'm not messing around and chancing it again so have ignored the latest update from MS until this issue is tracked down.

Its a pain to see so many going through this issue. Seems things work for some and not others etc.

If anyone is running an ISP diagnostic connection program in the background, go into the system tray and exit out of it.

I just got rid of the shadow ramp issue yesterday morning and all has been fine so far. Its some program that vista was starting at system startup.

What I did to fix:

START > RUN > Type: msconfig > STARTUP tab > Select DISABLE ALL > Reboot your system. That stops all programs taht normally start when the system starts except the needed ones to run. Worked like a charm. I really hope this helps all that are having the shadow ramp error code, it was real frusterating for me too, glad to see it gone.

Hmmm, just a thought this could somehow be related. I installed an http packet sniffer yesterday, because I was doing some testing with an application I was writing. When the sniffer (httpdebugger) was installed that is when I started encountering the issues with the game.

I find it kinda funny that the other programs mentioned, from Comcast etc, are probably doing some kind of packet sniffing, could this possibly be something the developers have put in to prevent peeps from sniffing the EQ packets..?

Just a thought but there are much nicer ways to handle this if that is the case.

Anyway, just how I solved my ramp error issue.
