Do you remember your days as an apprentice decorator? A budding young mind, on the look out for anything creative and inspiring? Did you ever spend hours zoning into random peoples homes, hoping to find new ideas and a breath taking designs? I know I did. But you know what really bugged me? Taking the time to load into a strangers home, only to find nothing but a lone market bulletin board and a generic table you get straight off of noobie isle. Sigh, that was the pits. Certainly not what I hoped for! But how would you know what you were missing unless you took the time and zoned into each and every single home.. empty or not. <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY<img mce_tsrc=" /> Every once and awhile I remember zoning to that half-done home that looked as if the owner had some really cool plan in progress... I always wondered if they finished, hmm. Its also always been a concern of mine that my house doesn't get viewed as much as I would like. My name (Xastia) is near the bottom of the list, and after the 58 empty houses above me, I always doubted anyone ever made it that far.Wouldn't it be cool if homes had a 'status?' You know, when you click VISIT on an address and the list of residents comes up, if there was a column that showed the status of the owner's home. For example, if the home is pretty much completed (well, its never 'completed' in our point of view, now is it? ) and ready to be shown, then the status would be 'Showhome' or something of that nature. If it's a work in progress and you have future plans for it, maybe a status like 'Under-construction' or something like that. And for the non-decorated ones, simply leave the status blank or what not. That way we can actually use our time enjoying the creativity of our fellow players, instead of loading into empty house #259. It would also give proud homeowners (like myself) a better opportunity for their work to be seen. Not sure if this idea has been entertained before, I've read pretty much this whole thread and didn't see anything similiar so I thought I'd throw it out there and see what you bunch of brilliant people think (especially Domino, *hint* *hint*).I would also just like to say thanks to the many decorators that share their ideas here. I was so blown away by many of your beautiful creations I've decided to demolish my entire home and start from scratch. Hopefully I'll be posting some before and after pictures of my 5 bedroom in the upcoming month or two, its going to be a major project. Thanks for listening!~Xastia

I would like this too. I enjoying being able to go to the local Parade of Homes in RL and would love to see a little note indicating that a certain characters' homes are on the Pramanade of House when I go visiting.

I almost wish we had a Norrathian version of the social calling card. You click on the door and get the option to leave (top option) or leave a note (bottom option). You get a small text block, maybe 300 char, to write a quick note. When the home owner would zone in, they would get an alert to check calling cards, and could see the names of folks who left cards and if any messages were 'scribbled on the back of the cards.'

Surely its been long enough, that we can stop acting like refugees and start developing the manners that go with our improved living conditions.

BTW, Xastia, I do start at the bottom of the list and work my way up sometimes, or start in the middle.

I would LOVE it if we could see how many items of a houses limit a player has filled BEFORE we go inside. I think that would probably be the simplest means of implimenting something like what you are suggesting. So, the idea definitely gets my support

*grins* I love the idea of calling cards.

I'm a big fan of visiting homes when I go to purchase something off the broker... Unless I'm in a hurry. I usually have a list of people I'm going to go visit and love to spend some time visiting their homes. Quite a few I've stopped by a nearby mailbox to send a calling card in that form.

But an in house calling card? That would be fun.

That is a wonderful idea! Most homes have mailboxes already inside, even if it were to require a mailbox inside the home for it to work, It would be a very nice idea. At the very least a way to tell if a house is a work in progress or a finished product would be very nice.Btw, I visit them from bottom up sometimes as well, more often than not most of the people in the lists are grayed out because they didn't pay their rent getting to the bottom even with empty houses doesn't take too long. That still bugs me too, I pay my rent when it's due, why does someone that hasn't paid rent in a year still have their name show up in the list when mine doesn't?/sign hehe

I like visiting homes too, but the OP is right... so many people just have empty homes. Or enough status furniture crammed into a house to pay for it with no real layout or imagination. It's alot of the reason why I purchase items from people's homes, as well as to save coin. I just love zoning into a house and seeing it beautifully decorated! I'm finding that people who take the time to put a seller's crate out, as a general rule, take the time to put some decorating forth. I tried to visit homes randomly in the past, but I honestly have to say that it's a bit tedious zoning in, seeing nothing, zoning out, zoning in next, seeing nothing, zoning out.... etc. So I use my shopping as a way to visit homes. Oh, and I come to these forums to see alot of the homes as well.

I don't know how much good a status message would do. I've visited many 5 room houses and been very surprised to see all the status items just lined up in the various rooms with no attempt at decorating at all. I think a lot of people lose interest once they move in. This is the case even with active players who are selling from their homes. I always wonder why and want to take out a broom, sweep the floor, and start moving the furniture around.

I'd love to see calling cards.

What a brilliant idea! If you could see a list of the decorated houses that would be fantastic. The card is also nice. So many times you walk into so many houses that have nothing in them of interest! It is a tedious procedure to go one by one only to find out none is decorated. I would really love that idea.

Just to add to the idea so to speak...Someone that has not paid their rent for x amount of days should be dropped from the list so you don't view a list full of unpaid rents. I was just peeking earlier there's someone in my Fae's house that hasn't played for 10 months another that the name doesn't even show up on the eq players website. So perhaps maybe a Call note, decorated status (Yes/no/WIP-work in progress), non paid rent rotation. <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> Please! <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

For homes that have the "showcase" option selected, have an option to auto-pay rent from the selected trustee. Maybe this should be an option even if you are not a "showcase" home, since people who sell things from their homes would like the option too.

I've wanted a way to auto-pay for a while. I have a busy job, and I split my time with my boyfriend in WoW, so I don't get to log on as much as I'd like. I keep an amount in the till for my house, and have never understood why there wasn't an auto-pay function from that.

I thought you could pay up-front for a number of weeks - should be in the house options somewhere if memory serves. There are two things that spring to mind while reading this thread:1) Unpaid for homes. IMHO they shouldn't appear on the "visit" list when you get to the house (as has been said). However, I'm also of the opinion they should be highlighted on the broker too - that way you don't go wasting your time finding their home, getting there, and not being able to get in. There may even be a case for not being able to sell but that may be a bit draconian.2) The calling card is great - and there's another thread in this forum that mentions a guest book; I like that idea too (not that mine would have many visitors! My house is so uninspired!)3) OK so this a third thing Why does it take so long to load into a 5-roomer? 500 objects isn't that much when you consider how big some zones are. But then I'm no programmer so what do I know? 4) Oh dear, now I'm rambling... I jumped server a couple of months back and now the rent timer on my house is all skewed inasmuch that I can't tell how much time there is left to pay before it "locks" the front door to others. I can do the right-clicky thing to see if one of the options is greyed-out and also look at the payment history and estimate 7 days since the last payment... but hey-ho, I'm being picky!OK, I'm off before I start really banging-on!

You can put an Escrow amount in, but there's no option to use auto-pay.

Perhaps add a 5 star rating system. This would be an alteration of the UI for the front door of a house. When a house is opened to the public allow guests to rate the house. When viewing the resident list players can then see how many people have rated a house, and the average # of stars the house is rated. When viewing the resident list the homeowners name turns blue if the viewing player already rated the house.Home owners have the option to delete all ratings giving the house a complete reset. Include the delete all ratings options for unhappy homeowners who performed a major renovation and want to start over again. It would then become very easy to tell the difference between a show home and an empty building with a sales crate on the floor.
