Coming back to the game, I was considering starting a fighter class and was wondering, out of these 4 which will have it easier leveling up solo, and later on in RoK from 70-80?

Of those four, any will solo well, though slowly enough.

The Berserker and Guardian will kill things quicker, but may have more down time to regain hit points between fights... the Paladin and Shadowknight will kill slower, but can heal themselves somewhat.

Pretty much a choice of flavor here... what do you imagine yourself being? A half crazed, plate wearing, dual axe wielding maniac? or a plate wearing protector, with a garage door on his back? Or how about a knight in shining armour?? or an evil knight, sucking the life from its enemies while swinging a huge 2-handed sword??

Your choice

Erithorn

Shadowknights kill slower than Guardians or Zerks?

Where do you get that stuff you're smoking?

Seriously, though -- yeah, at the very endgame this may be true with complete AA's specs and such, but in the early game the SK kills quickest of the 4 and once he has his 1st 17 AA points and 69% spell crit it goes that much faster.

Of course, the guard and zerk will be going for the buckler double-attack spec at the same time, which also increases their dps.

Even so, I deleted my (buckler spec'd) zerk at 40 becuz he was boring to me. But my SK is still going strong at 74.

Since I don't have any goals of raiding with my SK, I don't care that it's not the "ideal tank for raids" -- I do fine in groups and solo, so I'm happy enough with it.

Play what is fun for you. In my case it's the SK. For you it might be the zerk. You won't know until you try it.

all 4 classes kills are about as exciting as watching paint dry, but of the 4, i would say the zerker has the best dps while still being able to take the punches. guardian if you plan to raid in the upper lvls and wanna be MT and can find a spot, dps for guards has gotten better as well. Pallies and SK's are ok...

solo: SK, best plate soloer, decent dps, good survivability, high fun factorgroup: zerk, good dps, decent defense, aoe-aggro, high fun factor (starts to shine at 50+)raid: guardian, overpowered MT <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" width="15" height="15" />

My advice,

Start with Zwerker, until Level 70 and betray to Guard.

With T8, you have nearly Zero group mobs and damage between zerk and guard is equall and guard can take it better.

Until SoE fix mixed fighting style (spells + combat art), taking SK or Paladin is not a good option. Itemisation is not adequate for mixed fighting style.

But I have never played any of the other plate classes past level 10.

Brawlers (monks, bruisers)are better soloers then any of them, especially for a new player, and at the earlier levels. Once you figure out to use FD to break up groups of mobs and get around in dungeons you can solo stuff the other classes simply wont be able to.

I just came back and rolled a DE SK, really having a blast with it which is strange because I've always preferred mage/wizard caster types of characters.

I just want to make sure I don't invest alot of time into this badboy if he's worthless later on for solo play, as in not necessarily a raid toon.

Plus after coming back I have this HUGE list of vet rewards up to the 4 yr reward and some of those are a 1 time only so I don't want to drop them on a toon I'll hate!

Zerker then betray at 70. As others have said, theres no benefit to being a Zerker since Guard can meet them easily end game.

SK will have an edge over the other ( life leech like skill and FD) also an SK can tear down encounters pretty fast with his pretty good AoE DPS. The guardian will be the last one in therm of solo with his low DPS and no heals. But you still wouldn't have a problem soloing from lvl 1 to 80 with a guardian.

Zerker have a nice DPS for a plate user class and thats why he is pretty good to solo outside. But in dungeons its a bad choice bcuz he do not have any soloing tools like, fd, invis, root etc.

Paladin is also a a strong soloer. They kill slow but using plate + heals make it pretty good. If I had to choose one of these class based purely on their soloing ability thats would be the order.

1)SK. 2) Pally. 3) Zerker. 4) Guardian.

P.S. as a fighter monk/ bruiser out solo all of those 4 class. SK is arguably in the same braket as monk/bruiser for soloing.

As a plate tank your best bet in finding a guild that raid is to find one that is trying to start raiding.

guardian will denently be the slowest but the speed at which mobs drop isnt as slow as people make it maybe 2 min max if you could down a ^^^ white heroic and less as they go down, also paladin's have a slot in most raid guilds now as they are the prefered ot

I played a guardian from 1 - 80. Killing solo mobs was trivial. If you plan on doing any tanking I highly suggest you don't solo to 80.

As many have said, SK is the best at soloing, but the tradeoff is that you will not be very wanted in raids at all. Well played, the SK is one of the best soloers and group tanks I have seen (not counting the well played Paladin with amends on a wizzy or a guardian).

Play them till 20 and see which one you enjoy the most as almost all the levels past 20 are the same thing cycling every 14 levels.
