View Full Version : What are my odds of getting an exquisite treasure chest?

I play EQ2 probably 4 hours a day minimum up to about 10 hours. I solo mostly. The last exquisite chest that dropped for me was on April 16th an actually 2 dropped on the same day! I haven't seen one since. I'm wondering if a solo player has any hope of getting one to drop. As a solo player, I can't really handle instances alone. I do see named mobs during quests but a regular treasure chest is all that usually drops off non-heroic named. Are there any secrets I'm missing? Is there any way to improve my odds? Are there any instances I should be able to handle at lvl 79 that provide a chance of an exquisite drop? Thanks all.

Odds in general are low.

If your doing non named mobs VERY VERY VERY VERY low chance to get an exquisit chest.

If your doing named mobs outdoors very low (I wish I knew the % but roughly speaking I can do a circut a few times a night around skyfire and only get a few ornate chests no exquiset).

If your doing Named mobs in a dungeon better then named outdoors, again don't know the % but it's still low. Done several instances and not seen one, got lucky and saw a few another time. Still low chance thou.

So that being said best chance would be in an instance but you would need to be in a group to pull that off so kind of defeats the whole "solo" thing. I guess the best chance would be wack a mole err named but that gets increadibly boring increadibly fast.

Every mob has a chance to drop exquisite chests, but the chance of a solo mob dropping one is extremely small.

I've played EQ2 since launch and think i've had 2 (possibly 3) exquisites from solo mobs in that time.

I dont believe there is anything you can do to increase your chacnes of solo's dropping higher quality chests.

Epic nameds will have the3 highest chance of dropping exquisites and solo mobs the lowest

Epic named>Epic trash>Heroic named>Heroic trash>Solo mob

I do like the idea that any mob can drop a surprise like this, but feel that it should stay an extremely rare event.

It is possible to solo some of the T7 instances at lvl 80 (depending on class/ gear etc...)

I did try OOB once (with my wizzy) and got most of the way through with little trouble but had to stop for R/L reasons and havnt got around to trying again since. And I do know of others that regularly solo round here, although your only going to get lvl 60-69 drops (even from mobs that are lvl 70+)

As for the T8 instances, I very much doubt any of these are soloable.

There are a few T8, overland, heroic nameds that can be soloed, although they are difficult.

With my wiz i've managed Doom in kunzar jungle fairly easily and the large named on the Danak docks beach (cant remember the name) wasnt to hard either

I've tried the giant shark, in the sea's off Danak, Megaladon, many times, but only managed to kill it solo once.

There are a few heroic mobs you can solo as a Necro and have a good chance of dropping masters, but simply telling you which would ruin the fun of finding out for yourself.

My suggestion, if you want to see some good loot, is to simply join some pick up groups. Sometimes they can be more trouble than they are worth, but you are guarenteed to eventually see more fabled drops than you would by soloing.

I'll answer this in just one short sentence. I could say alot more and give advice on how to do it properly, but that would just spoil the fun of finding out for yourself. Ready for your answer?Roll a Necromancer.

It's not just RoK areas, it's all over.I've been running my Paladin thru T3, T4, and T5 areas for HQs lately and haven't had many exquisites or ornates drop off named mobs in Lavastorm when running Lost Legend HQ and Eye For Power HQ over the last two days. Matter of fact, the two exquisite chests we had came from non-name trash mobs which surprised us. We plowed thru the new adjusted Ghoulbane HQ today, killing the three needed for that quest but also plowing thru Nek Castle and the names we could find there...it was all mostly very loaded treasured chests...ad 1s, some treasured items, and one or several rares for the tier. I think maybe three ornate chests total, two in Nek Castle, the other in RoV off a named I'd never seen or killed before, The Crimson Butcher.I've been in RoK instances on my L80 Warden, and all of the names drop the loaded treasured chest save for the one or two ornates which come in two flavours: with one essence or an essence plus a treasured or maybe legendary item. Since RoK I think I've seen a total of five exquisites total.So...it's not just you, johnec, it's everyone. <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />This is why I'm looking forward to the Runny Eye: The Gathering L80+ instance that's being added with GU 46 later this month. Kandor, the dev who's working on/with it, has said that 71-79 masters will drop there. A very welcome thing, imho, for everyone searching for exquisite chests./waits impatiently

I've seen quite a few off heroic trash, but can only remember 2 off solo mobs, and I've been playing since launch also. It does happen, but is very very very very rare.

I've had two drop of solo mobs in ROK in the last month. Probably overall about 10 drops in all my time playing.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like I've gotten a lot fewer exquisite lately.

I do agree that exquisite chests should be a rare event, but I think they need to have a greater chance of dropping in the non-instanced heroic contested zones (especially from named in these zones, the drop rate on non-wooden chests is abysmally low). Currently it's a rare event for groups to do Chardok or Sebilis unless they need epic updates or are trying to get to one of the instances in those zones. I think a lot of zones throughout the game should be remodeled after Ruins of Varsoon. That zone is always fun to work through with a group, as the named have a high chance of dropping decent chests. There's quite a bit of incentive for groups to do instances, but not much to do contested non-instanced content.

Of particular mention would be Lavastorm and Everfrost. These two zones should stay primarily heroic, but I'd love to see more chance given to get ornate and exquisite chest drops there. I can't remember the last time I actually was able to find a real group in these zones. The risk vs. reward is part of the reason for that.

Also, please flag chromatic essences so that they don't trigger an ornate chest!!! It's depressing to see an ornate chest pop only to find an essence inside.

I've seen three total come from solo outdoors mobs in my time since launch. That's pretty low odds ... but really, solo world mobs shouldn't be a source of fabled chests.

Chardok / Seb really do need a drop rate increase though. That, and SoF needs to have the loot tables populated with 71-74 gear / Masters.

I havent seen a trash dropped Exquisite outdoors since last year. 71-74 masters all mythical it seems and running the high end instances dozens of times without seeing exquisite drops is depressing.

Hm...off solo mobs in RoK...I've not seen it happen but it did to an Assassin friend last week. He freaked me out by mailing the master of Nature's Pack (Warden limited pet spell) to me. I have seen it off free ranging mobs in other maps, tho.

I've had 5 master drops I think in RoK so far off solo mobs. 3 in Fens and 2 in KJ, all of them in the "rare" 71-74 range, which resulted in quite a bit of plats for me. It's pretty rare, I'd say... but if you do all the quests and a good amount of writs, I'd say there is a fair possibility you might see one or a few. Personally, I think that's great... the possibility for a master or booster pack makes soloing a little bit more interesting.

Hmm... I always figured exquisite chests were a perk to grouping with people. Same as fabled armor sets are a perk to raiding... In the case, if group but not raid, what are my odds of getting my T8 fabled armor?

I've been playing for almost a year and a half. During that time, I saw only *1* exquisite drop off a non-named mob from L1-70. Since I got RoK, I've managed to get 2 (Fens & JW). I would have just blown that off as luck. But given the other responses in this thread, I'm wondering whether it's been increased slightly for RoK mobs. ....but even if it is higher than normal, it's still a very rare occurence. It's not something I would ever try to solo farm. You'll do much better in groups or raids.

Obviously there are several named mobs in the game with higher or lower chances of dropping masters the rest, but 2.5% seems to be rather accurate overall.

Obviously, all of your numbers would have to be without including mobs that are a guarenteed fabled drops, such as an etherial fiend in the Chamber of Immortality, Priest of Byzola in Fallen Gate and Tseralith in The Vault of the Fallen.
