View Full Version : Returner question: will graphics and performance be improved?

Being an all time returner, and still loving EQ2 above all other MMOs, I am also aware of the issues.

Tbh, I was quite furious, entering QH or some other areas with my newer and MUCH better computer, and STILL getting the same stuttering and lag like in the VERY old days with my very OLD computer! When I can run VANGUARD or AGE OF CONAN on HIGH settings fluidly (more or less) why is Everquest II UNABLE to allow me high setting with the SAME comp? I dont understand that. I mean I played CRYSIS on high, but I have to set the 3+ year old EQ2 to [Removed for Content] MEDIUM to run decend!

The other issue, textures especially start to look... old. Also the sky among some things. *shudders* Some are ok, but a general texture and sky rework would really greatly help.

Is there ANY solid info from Devs IF or WHEN these issues are to be addressed?

Thx for any info.

The lag is server-side. You cannot do anything to fix it on your end.

*shrugs* I dont get much lag at all in QH to be honest... I get lag everyonce in a while in Gorowyn and Neriak....but again, not all the time...I don't know what causes the lag, however this might be better answered in the tech forums.... Server Lag - Crushbone, maybe others

Performance I agree needs a boost. But graphics? I don't know I still think EQ2 is one of the best looking MMO's out there. Even compared to some of the newer ones. Though Vanguard does have a very beautiful world. (Not so much models anymore since they nerfed them to all hades).

My graphics are set to High Quality.

I get little-to-no lag, stutter, freeze-up, CTD issues, or other such screwiness. Unless your "newer & MUCH better" computer isn't even up to the piddly standards of mine, then I'd have to say something is simply wrong on your end. & if your machine ISN'T up the piddly standards of mine, then there's still something wrong on your end.

QH is the worst. The rest of the game isn't that way unless you have spell effects or such turned up while raiding. QH is still worse. I just push through it whenever I have to go through that zone. It's not really all that game killing for me.

I run a dual core 2.66 Mhz with a 8800 GTX 768Mb graphics card and i still regularly get really bad server lag in Quenos Harbour and Terens is awful as well.

I can play sometimes in High or even extreme mode but tend to play in balanced all the time except in a raid when i drop down to extreme performance to aviod lag issues as much as possible.

The issue is with SOe's server's and EQII's graphic engine I can play other games in highest settings without any problems.

I see a lot of complaints on this issue. Problem is I don't know anyone personally that is having an issue with it except for Raiders in raid zones. I was having an issue with it once in awhile back, but I am attributing it to trying to run EQII on a Vista PC with only 2gigs of RAM. I am now running dual boot so I can play EQII on XP because it does run a lot better. Not saying you can't run on Vista, I did, it just runs better on an XP system.

I am running a 2.4Ghz(OC to 3.0Ghz) Core 2 Duo, 8800 GTS, and 2.75 gigs of Ram and I can run on Very High Quality in Qeynos Harbor without any studdering issues. My system is actually over a year old now, so it is by no means a newer computer in fact I am contemplating dropping in a new E8400 Core 2 Duo and overclock the CPU closer to 4Ghz. This is the type of CPU that EQII needs since it is a CPU intensive game.

>>>>entering QH or some other areas with my newer and MUCH better computer, and STILL getting the same stuttering and lag like in the VERY old days<<<Three areas to look at:- does your new computer have a higher clock speed than your old one? Multiple cores don't help, so going from a 3GHz single core to a 2GHz 4-core CPU will likely result in a significant downgrade in performance. What you consider "better" isn't necessarily so.- do you have at least 2G of RAM? Qeynos Harbor is notorious for very bad performance on low-ram machines- do you have shadows turned off? A lot of video cards really don't like displaying shadows and you will see a significant performance increase by turning them off.
