Hi all, sorry to bug you with a probably very simple question.. but even a search on this forum did not help me out. I just started playing EQII and made a carpenter right away since I just LOVE the housing feature and wanted to make a nice home for my charaters. Now I can't really afford a big house yet, so I settled for a 2-room suite in NQ. I have seen so many lovely places shown here on the forum, and a lot of you peeps use stuff to divide up rooms into smaller areas. Now I was wondering what exactly you all use to make those little walls. I especially like the ones that look kind of wooden. I tried making something using paintings, but they won't just stick to air .. How do you fix them?!Thanks for the help and info. Once I have a room that looks nice enough to my liking, I'll make sure to share it on here.

When I create room divides I use teak bookcases. They have a nice large flat back surface, so when you stack multiples of them, you get a really nice smooth surface you can work with. Some people use the maple bookcases.

To do the paintings as a divide you need some sort of bookcase (the teak ones are perfect for it) to hang them on first, then remove the bookcase to have them appear to float. You will need to stack the paintings front to front for a walk-through screen divide, and to also have that solid white on both sides. Getting the paintings to sit exactly right for the effect is a bit tricky and needs a lot of paintence to do well. They are also a bit impratical to divide large areas off as you will need a staggeringly large amount of them.

Heck, you will need an almost staggeringly large amount of any item that you decide will work well for a divide if you are dividing a large area off.

Another option but one that doesn't have a smooth surface and a different coloration than the teak bookcases, is the maple bookcase. It also has the advantage of being a carpenter level 12 item instead of a level 42 item as the teak bookcase is. The disadvantage is that it is smaller than the teak bookcases. As for the paintings, Jazabelle made a nice tutorial on how to use it as screens, including screenshots on this thread. Just scroll down a little to find it.

Do you like this? This is made of Maple Bookcases and Teak Wine Rack.

I've also used the teak mirrors and some of the large hanging banners to give the appearence of room dividers. These are both items you can walk thru, making them usefull for hidden rooms and such.

I've just made a hallway using the Painting of an Orc Dragon Slayer. It's currently the biggest one there is but as a t8 recipe it can be a bit expensive if you want a few of them. The Portrait of a Teenage Girl that you can buy in Freeport is one of the cheapest items available and has a lovely textured wooden back - I just wish it was a bit bigger.I also tend to use the Cellus quest reward bookcase for setting vertical things in line as it's a bit taller than the crafted ones and easy to move in and out of my libraries as it doesn't get covered with lots of quested books. For placing small upright things keep a thexian wine rack on hand.

Honestly you can use anything you want as a divider!

I'd suggest Teak bookcases as the simplest way to go about it because they are a decent size and you can use them as a bookcase or just a wall..

Ash bookcases are shorter and slightly smaller then the Teak ones but same color/texture (very light pale wood)

If you still want to use the Oil painting of a knight,..I'd suggest placing Teak bookcases where you want the divider and then placing the paintings on the backs of the bookcases (I'm not sure.. but I think you can also place the paintings where the shelfs are if you don't want to spend the time replacing the bookcases to get both sides of the wall white otherwise - After you place one side of the paintings you will have to spin the bookcases around and slighty behind your first layer to place the back layer).

If you are limited on space/items then I would highly suggest that you find a local Carpenter and see if they will make a couple Dragon Slayer paintings for the fuel costs and a tip. (They cost 5g per in merchant fuel to make) They are a pretty decent size and have a dark brown wood back texture to them.

Being a carpenter myself, I figured I would make my own maple bookcases. However that was a bit more trying then I thought, for I couldn't find the proper recipe in my book. Maple shelves I could find, but no bookcases! So I searched the broker for any missing books and asked around but still was utterly confused and hadn't found the recipe. Then it dawned on me that maybe, just maybe, the name for the recipe might be written down wrongly in the recipe book. So I got out my maple and iron, and started working on my bookshelves. And voila! There it was, my maple book case! Once the servers come back up I am going to have some fun with dividing my 2room suite in NQ!

The endproduct IS called Maple Bookcase. It is just listed as maple shelves in our recipe books

Just in case you didn't do this yet, I sugest that you bookmark EQ2 Traders. They will provide all the information you need about crafting but more important, in this case, they have a furniture show case. So you can have an idea of how the furniture looks, what size they are and what level you can craft them. It is really helpful for those of us who want to craft our own furniture.Everseek is another good resource. It isn't updated often but can give you an idea of what kind of furniture you can get through quests, collections and stuff like that.Hope those two links help you in some way. <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />EDIT: Fixed the link to Everseek because I r a noob.

Hmm and how about those cloth room dividers you can walk through, like a curtain?? what would those be called?

Do you mean this? There are other tapestries too but that one is the most common I saw for dividing spaces. Since they are very big and you can "sink" the lower part making it look like a curtain. There was someone who did a good work using that one on her house but I don't remember her name right now. I will see if I find the thread and then edit this post.Roybob also did a good work with tapestries but he used Ceremonial Tapestry and Tapestry of the Sleeper.Note that you can pass through paintings as well.EDIT #1: Aha! Found it! The house that used that first tapestry I linked is Eslina's house. Although on her screenshots you can't see very well how she used the tapestries. I think I have some screenshots that show it better. Let me dig my screenshots folder for it and then I will edit this post again or make a new one if someone replies before that. EDIT #2: I hope Eslina doesn't mind me posting these screenshots or anyone else for the size of it. Anyhoo, this is how Eslina used the Stained Tapestry of Valor.

Thanks for the tips Kahlef - I use Everseek a lot to check out how things look like. EQtraders I know from back when I was playing EQ but found that their database isn't as extensive for EQII as it was back then for EQ (and prolly still is). I don't think though I saw their furniture database, will check it out!I got me one tapestry to use as a cloth doorway, but once I hung it I found out I couldn't walk through it!! LOL. Is that the same with all?? I checked for the stained ones as well but they are too expensive on the broker for me. Will have to find me someone who can make them maybeI am having great fun making my house more and more my home! Once I am done (or at least it looks more or less decent) I'll make sure to make some screenies to post here!~Vuurvink

That is weird. What kind of tapestry did you try? If it is not too expensive I will get one and test it in one of my houses.

The tapestry I got is called "Awakened Cultural Ritual Tapestry" or something along those lines (trying to remember without logging in heh). It is one of the darker colored tapestries with golden thread on it.~Vuurvink
