Templar Epic - Smoldering Material

hey folks,just thought I'd get a heads up on how people were finding it getting the smoldering material drops from part 2 of the templar epic quest (The Healing of Amree).The description from eq2.wikia.com is:" The last ingredients needed are two <a rel="nofollow" href="http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Smoldering_material" target="_blank">smoldering materials</a> from Kunark. These must be harvested; you can not buy them or have them traded to you. You must harvest them yourself. They are harvested off of nearly every type of harvestable node (even fish!) and are relatively rare. You must have the harvesting skill to be able to harvest in Kunark."Now until last night, I'd spent about 3hrs farming (only using gathering skill) and as yet, haven't had one drop - I've tried all over Kylong Plains, and Jarsath Wastes.I'm now in the process of raising my foresting, mining, and trapping in the hope that these will have a better drop rate than gathering.What are peoples experiences of this section of the quest, for those that have the drops, what did you get them from and how long did it take?Thanks for any and all replies <img src="/eq2/images/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY<img mce_tsrc=" />Moles

<p>It only took me about 20 minutes to farm both. I got one from about every 20-30 harvests (that's been about constant from all my farming). You just need to find a nice area of nodes (there are some very dense spots in Kunzar with little to no aggro) and just farm everything.</p>

I think they drop more from the metals nodes than the gathering ones. From my experience, took me about 45min to get two from ore.

Found both mine in roughly 30 minutes out in the Jungle off of shrubs. I also found 3 rare roots in that time, needless to say, my warlock friend was [Removed for Content] as it took him roughly 12hrs to get all the rare roots he needed heh. I had good luck in the jungle, and he had really good luck in the wastes.

It took me about 2 hours off the nodes in the cave between Terran Grasp and Highton. The only nice thing was the 5 rares that I got, three being loam. But talking to other Templars the metal nodes gave the fastest results.

It took me about an hour to get both.   I found one in KP and the other in JW.  Be patient, and it will happen....LOL  just wait till you  have to get the 35 hide update off the drakes in skyfire.    EQ2wikia says the drop is about 1 in 4, but it was roughly 1 in 15 for me <img src="http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/images/smilies/2786c5c8e1a8be796fb2f726cca5a0fe.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" width="15" height="15" />

Yup, Id say 1 in 12, 1 in 15 is about what it was for me as well; whomever said 1 in 4 was way off the mark.

Took me about 4-5 hours to get all my drake updates solo.

I'm rather suspicious about the drop rate of smoldering during the quest. I had 52 smoldering in my backpack from before starting the quest and was often thinking "grr.. another bloody smoldering" when getting them from nodes. But when finally on the quest it took me three days of rather intensive harvesting to get the two updates.Personally I think someone should shoot SOE's random number generator.

The secret of random number generator is the seed value it uses. If you keep the sed value same, chances are your random number will not be random. That is why programmers try to use something that is truely random as seed - for example, I have used motherboard temperature as seed (yup - it is never constant - it fluctuates a lot). One thing I have noticed. For example, I am out harvesting and do not find any rares in 30 minutes of non-stop clear-all-nodes type harvesting. So, I log off and relog. I have seen many times that it fixes my "random number generator". Maybe the seed value is assigned at the time you log in. Anyway - the SoE random number generator is not perfect.

in the end, I decided to work up all harvesting skills anyway, as they tend to be a bit of a money maker, and lo-and-behold, after walking into Kunzar jungle I got the 2 updates within 20minutes from Gathering (the skill I had originally!)go figure <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />
