NON standard 100% cpu usage, of BOTH cpus (should only fill one)

<span class="postbody">OK, im about to put a hammer through my computers now. Same thing happened to my GF's 2 year old dell inspiron with xp, worked great, had decent graphics for eq2 and smooth fps, then one day, after using it to raid with no probs for a year and a half, it just started doing this thing where if she left it idle in eq2 (ie dont move mouse or keyboard) for about a min it would grind to a hault. Prob got worse and worse till now it does it right away. We figured it was a prob with xp and oldness of the comp because nobody could answer the problem, she plays on a desktop now, never fixed the issue. Now its happening on my laptop to. Both dell, this, though, is vista 64 with a top line opengl nvidia card (i do open gl 3d graphics), which used to work like a champ. If you watch the performance monitor (see posted image) it starts off with cpu0 (both comps are core2 duos) maxed and cpu1 pretty much idle, which is what has been stated in these forums to be the proper situation with a dual core. As it idles though, you all of a sudden see cpu1 take this massive hit and both get maxed to 100%. this is where the comps go to about .05fps. Killing everquest2.exe fixes the problem which wont go away otherwise, but it takes a good 2 min for the comp to recove and be snappy again. Anyone have ANY ideas? This laptop is only a year old, and was the "bells and wistles" version of the precision, her's was a mid grade inspiron e1505. Xp 32 vs vista 64, absolutely nothing in common between the two besides dell and eq2. and crap.<img src="http://www.manhattaninteractive.com/graph.jpg" alt="" border="0" /> </span>

My 2cpI too struggle with trying to play EQ2 on my state of the art laptop core 2 duo with Win xp.  I think the problem is EQ2 <b>not</b> supporting multi cores and EQ2  overwhelming the core that it is using.My problem got worse with ROK with the game becoming unplayable.My CPU graph for core0 looks amazingly like yours totally maxedThe only thing that I have come up with is to use msconfig too stop every possible process that might be stealing cycles.Even then acceptable game play is usually about an hour before requiring a reboot to regain acceptable game play.One diagnostic step would be to get your processes screen up and sort them by CPU usage.This should show you the process that is spiking the second core but it may be just EQ2 changing affinityOnce it showed me a problem with my Firewall software that was going nuts because somehow the EQ2 update didn't trigger its normal permission for changed programs.If you find that  EQ2 process is swapping cores right click on it after its loaded and set its affinity to one of the cores.This would prevent it from switching cores.You can also right click and change the EQ2 process to high priority which might help a little.Good Luck but I think the only real solution is for SOE to upgrade EQ2 to the multi core world
