What's the deal with T8 mezz "upgrade"?

Sounds like you are comparing apples to oranges . . . probably comparing a fast mez to the standard mez.All that said, I'm not upgrading my T7 Master mezzes for simple resist reasons.  The T7 Masters work up to L86 or so and do cost less power.

I went with the Adept 3 T8 mez for the extra 7 (7.2.... somethin like that) seconds of duration.   My T8 mez now lasts 52.3 seconds.  Mezzing an epic in a raid is now a viable option, because it'll last for... what, better than 15 seconds now, right?  Awesome. =)
