I have seen several different people talking about bots, and contested mobs, and got confused. (I think I understand it now) Hopefully this guide will help everyone if they ever confused as I was.

Bots

The first definition I have seen for bot, is when there is no human interaction whatsoever, the "player" is somehow automated to jog around and do whatever. Another definition is that it is partially controlled by a human, but just follows around another character. Another definition is anyone who plays a bard. After reading all the posts on it, however, it is clear to me what people mean by bot is, "Anyone who ever kills any mob whatsoever that drops anything I wanted, but got there first".

Contested/Kill Stealing

I was confused here as well, as to when a person or group or even raid was kill stealing, or if it was just competition for contested. This is tricky, because if just went by the contested definition, than it is actually impossible to killsteal anything. However, after reading the posts here, I determined what everyone really means is, "If I get to the mob, and kill it first, completely lock it down, no matter who or what was there....Contested. If someone else gets to the mob and kills it before me.....Killstealing"

It truly is that simple!!

C'mon now. A "bot" is any character that is being "assisted" in performing some task by means other than a player at their keyboard, controlling that particular character. It's not someone on autofollow, it is someone who's using a specialized program to control their toon (e.g.: harvestbots) or someone who's using external macro programs and/or hardware like the Nostromo with a multiboxed setup to play more than one character at one time.

And with encounter locking, there is really no "kill stealing" in the traditional sense in EQ2. Contested mobs are just that... contested. Someone who repeatedly interferes with a ring event should be petitioned for game disruption, not "stealing" a mob.

Funny, I was just reading a thread that confused me, and thought about posting something similar as the OP. Bots are unmanned/woman characters I thought. But they were referring to multi boxers instead.
