The last driver update fixed eq2 and fear for me, check it out. this is eq2 maxed, i got it set to extreme. idk about you but that impressed me ALOT. for the age of this game. looks better then a ps3

Ok, let's get this straight. It is by far the best looking MMO on the market. But there is no way it looks better than the PS3's graphics.

oh yeah i guess it is, but still eq2 got great grpahics
I think the comparison is a bit silly - MMOs support many players at the same time which should deterioraties visuals - but on EQ2 on high settings the game is incredibly beautiful. So EQ2 does win if you compare the fact that you are on the most part comparing single player focussed visuals vs a largr sprawling beautiful world and still EQ2 attempts to compete. That in itself shows the power of EQ2.

They're just bein' abit silly. Of COURSE the PS3 looks better. It cost as much as my entire compy did 4 years ago It's a video card with a shiny plastic case around it and a HD drive or blue-ray or whichever they going for. How is your performance at that speed? Playable (Don't care about FPS, "playable" is acceptable in my book lol). And also any catches/stutter? Looks great.

The current-gen consoles are beginning to focus more and more on online capability. E3 this year got a lot of people excited.

You do realise that the RSX ((PS3 Graphic chip)) is powered by an Nvidia GPU? With similar capabilities of geforce 7900 card ((geforce 7 series)) with 128 bit bandwith and cell memory/bandwith sharing. Theres no reason a Geforce 6/7/8 GPU cant render anything in that PSX screenshot. Heck the biggest thing that would hold back a PS3 from rendering EQ 2 would be memory constraints. EQ 2 has a pretty massive texture footprint. Chris

Personally though, I think the Wii has the best controller for MMO play, unless you wanna hook up a mouse/keyboard. the wii hardware might be a tad lackingt hough. Not enough memory to carry an MMO gracefully I'd reckon.

The thing is, the graphics have stayed pretty much the same since release. Basically, the graphics were this awesome back at release, when 6800GTX's were top of the line. I've been able to enjoy them a fair bit with my 6600GT and I can tell you it's always been this pretty. But alas, with zones like Greater Faydwer, I just can't run on high settings anymore... Can't wait to buy a new system!

EQ2 is indeed a beautiful looking game on high settings.. it has done ever since release.. .. of course, many of us never see those.. those of us with lower spec machines know we wont get to see them and understand that, unfortuantely SoE seems to be assuming more and more that everyone has high spec machines. Every expansion and new area uses more fancy graphic/texture systems which require a new computer to run well, theres not a single instance in EoF that I've been in where I havent run into "invisible" mobs that I cant see purely because they require certain graphic options to be tagged on, or sliders up to high. Some zones, like Unrest, dispite more than meeting minimum system requirements and turning my graphics down to absolute lowest level I can, still cause me to have an out of memory error on a regular basis. At minimum system requirements, and setting graphics as low as they can go, there is no mob I should be incapable of seeing and no place that should send me out of memory. With news of RoK's even larger zones and skeleton changes I only hope that the people who play this game on a budget will still be able to play.. mabye SoE will finally realise that by building their games to take advantage of so much new tech, they are making their market smaller and smaller. So yeah, congratulations on having such pretty graphics.. spare a thought for the people who dont, because if SoE follows their current pattern, you may soon be loosing guildmates because of it.

PS3 graphics capabilities are not better than the current crop of PC video cards by a long shot. The difference that makes the PS3 games look so nice is "optimization". Those PS3 games are optimized to the "nth" because they only run on one hardware. PC games have to be able to run and look decent on hardware spanning a few years... so concessions are made. Simply look at the tech specs for a PS3 and then go look at the specs for something currently being offered by Falcon or Alienware and it's easy to see what's what.

If asked my personal opinion, I don't see where comparisons between consoles and PCs are even valid... they are extremely "apples and oranges".

I wish one of the controller manufacturers for consoles would replace one of the thumbsticks with a mini-trackball for first person shooters... I really abhore playing those with a joystick or Dpad.

Happy Gaming,

--Orv

Wait a second. You're telling me that you've got your graphics set to Extreme Quality on a GF 7600GT while still maintaining a good framerate? Or was this just for screenshot purposes? Because in my system I've got a 7950GX2 (dual GPU card with 512 MB RAM each) and 4 Gigs of RAM and I can't even play on Very High Quality for some reason. And yes, I do have the latest drivers and all, just reinstalled my OS two days ago.

I wish there was some way to turn off the particle effects JUST for Cacophony of Blades. When I raid with any respectable amount of particle effects on I end up feeling like my eyes are melting.

I love the other effects generally - just wish there was a tick box in settings to turn CoB off.

Edit: I forgot the point I was going to make! Vanguard was supposed to be the most beautiful MMO. Having played it I can tell you yes, there's some nice scenery textures, but the character models are horrible. Some of the animations are nice, but the character textures lack the diversity of EQ2.

Essentially I'd have to agree with the person who said EQ2 is the best looking MMO. I've played a few and the balance of looks and playability, smoothness and resources needed to get decent results, are the best I've seen. You can't compare PC stuff to PS3 though - the PS3 is dedicated hardware - the PC does so much other stuff it's not built purely for games.
