These are the classes that interest me. What order would you put them in from best for soloing and most wanted for raids? Conjuror Templar Swashbuckler Guardian Paladin Ranger

What's most needed in groups and raids is whatever your guild or alliance is missing. Rangers are great DPS but if your guild has seven then it's time to roll something else, you know? Every one of those six is a good class that can do incredible things in the hands of the right player. Just from a practicality point of view, groups and raids don't need that many tanks so one of the other four classes is more likely to find a use you enjoy. Beyond that, roll what you like playing best. The best player in a gorup or a raid is the one who knows his or her class and is dedicated to maximizing its potential.

You are correct of course. However i'm not in a guild. At least not yet. So I was going to pick something that had the greatest chance of being needed for most raids and then if I also enjoy that character and continue playing the game then join up with a guild.

The last reality after proc-nerf, incombat runspeed boost for mobs, trap nerf, stunpotion-nerf, Stream-of Arrows nerf .. was .. that it was hard to solo a blue mob with one upgrade, and 4 green Droags in TT could beat the crap out of you .. to bad you need distance to pull, but with all that social mobs you can't pull one encounter without body pull

You would have a pretty hard time getting into a raiding guild as a new paladin or guardian. Every class can solo so you should really go by what is needed most in raids such as: bards, chanters, and healers.

In fact, I've even asked to join a pick-up raid & been told, "No, sorry, we already have a Swashy ...."

With Swashies, it's very true: two is a pain, three is a crowd. You only need ONE, & I personally don't even like seeing another Swashy in the raid force, much less my group.

fandibus wrote:
These are the classes that interest me. What order would you put them in from best for soloing and most wanted for raids? Conjuror Templar Swashbuckler Guardian Paladin Ranger

Conjuror: exceptional soloist, and very much wanted in groups and raids for its exceptional dps. This is probably your safe-card. However since the class is so flexible there are a lot of them running around so you might have problems getting a raid spot with it.

Swash: good soloer, and wanted in groups and raids for its nice dps and debuffing.

Ranger: good soloer, wanted in groups and raids for its high dps.

Templar: known for being a very slow soloer. Very much wanted in raids and groups.

Paladin: solo-wise no clue. Class doesnt seem too popular for raids. Groups: see guardian.

Guardian: rather slow soloer. Wanted in raids if the raid lacks mt...so dont count on that. Atm there seems to be a lack of tanks for groups, so thats where Guardians would be most desirable atm at least.

One difficulty is that if a class is easy to solo, then there are likely to be a glut of them at the high end, because people give up on the tougher classes.

For example, Templars are not easy to solo, and furies are easy, mostly because of the dps difference. As a result, druid classes (furies and wardens) make up about half of the healers, rather than 1/3. This results in lots of groups on the chat channel looking for "plate or chain healers." In groups, it is always nice when you don't have to fight over who gets the valuable wearable drop.

Also, what is wanted in groups and wanted in raids may be very different.

If you intend to do groups with friends/guild, then the advice about what the guild needs is important. I was trying to figure out which class to level up next, and I noticed a lack of dirges. I decided to level up my dirge, and logged on to find three of my guildmates leveling up their dirge alts! So I am holding off on that one to see if we wind up with a dirge-glut (like we have a tank glut...half of our folk at 70 are figher classes). We need an illusionist so I am leveling up that alt instead.

I noticed that you picked classes that are startable in Qeynos. You could have less competition if you chose the evil classes, like SK, inquisitor, assassin, brigand, defiler, etc. (exception -- necros seem to be common).

There are reason to be concerned about how many folk are around in your class beyond just finding groups. Master spells and rarer item prices are heavily dependent on demand.

Can evil classes group with good classes? Or must they betray first?

fandibus wrote:
Can evil classes group with good classes? On PvP servers, it matters, and the opposite factions can't even talk to each other. Literally.

Thank you for your replies all. I appreciate it. Now i'm off to find some good interface mods.

Paladin is an average soloer, not too flash but not too gimped either. I find the SK to be a much better soloer but they aren't as strong in group support as the Pally is. IMO anyway. I always found both Predators to be very poor soloers but found they really excelled in groups because you could actually use the full range of their abilities. As for UI mods, I use THOR and EQ2 Map in conjuction and they work a treat.
