View Full Version : Class re-spec...

In vent today, Prophecy and I were discussing the changes coming with GU36. He mentioned something that would be awesome, but probably won't happen. Class Re-spec. The ability to change your class in light on the upcoming GU. It would be fair, since doing so would per-say leave you with no spells, you would have to buy them all, just like if you exiled. It would be expensive to do so, but perhaps just something to think about... Thanks, Prophecy...good idea.

why on earth would they allow this? it is detrimental to revenue stream, and because so, it'll NEVER happen.

We'd have servers full of healers instead of servers full of scouts....not that different really!

Hmm you want a simile...

Respeccing a level 70 to a completely archetype is like rewarding people for giving up.

or....

Respeccing a level 70 to a completely different archetype is liking someone giving you a toon that is not yours and one that you have no idea how to play (in most cases).

Yes, MMO's are all about enjoyment, but its not about free rides to the top of a new class (again just my opinion). In life you get what you pay for, and you pay to play the game how they design it, not how you think it should be for you. Although custum tailored games would be pretty awesome!

It was an idea, just that, an idea. If you want to think that it is a way for people to "Jump ship and find a better one" then you got it all wrong. In my opinion, the number one reason people would quit would be from getting bored with their current character, grinding them to 70 and then just being absolutely done with wanting to play that class. The idea of letting people re-spec their class, while paying a very heavy penalty, no matter what it may be, might actually help someone who has grinded to 70 and wants a change. Now, yes, if this was implemented people may take advantage of it, but people can and do take advantage of almost anything they can, it's human nature, so yes, some people may "Jump ship and find a better one" but at the same time give level 70 characters a chance to try something new without starting over and having to make the same grind again...

Hmmm ...well what I get from this thread is the following : Can you please let me switch my class to another without having to grind it all up and regear him again please. Because my class is no longer going to be ne of the overpowered class i was under the impression it was, when i chose to play the class. Thank you. ummm how about ....no ?

You'd be looking at alot of time and plat to do so, especially with alot of high end items being no trade.

No one said anything about overpowered classes getting nerfed being the reason for change. Not everyone is looking for the end all be all of a toon. Perhaps someone is tired of playing their Assassin and wants to be a Defiler instead. Posted that way it doesnt sound all too bad, but didn't you have fun your first time through the game? Why not have a repeat performance of the fun with a new toon. Trust me I know about not having all the time in the world I'm in the service, which is one reason it took me almost a year to get my first toon to level 70. I'm not knocking the legit people who are just tired of a class and want to try a new one. What would you do if you chose a new class and didn't like it after months? Are you gonna ask for another respec? Why not just roll a new toon and enjoy the experience of learning that new class and everything that comes with it? Make him your new main and use the resources of you other toon to help him out.

You can get to 30 in a matter of a couple days, 50 in a couple weeks without trying to hard. A class change is just not necessary.

Heh, nah I gotta agree that I don't think this is really a good idea, I mean, it seems fairly thought out and props for that, but I have run a couple toons to t5 and just thought, screw this, I'm bored with this class and deleted. Yeah yeah, I know not everyone is like me, but if one person is like this, I'd bet someone elses [Removed for Content] that theres others. I think if you want a new toon, then yeah, roll it, bite the bullet and feel that rosy feeling of accomplishment yet get when you finally ding 70, moments before a group of scouts go "ZOMGWTFBBQ!11!! W1zZY! FR33 TOK3N!!1! lawlz"

Anyway, if there was going to be some form of character respeccing involved, I'd vote for race respec Cept you know almost everyone and his dog would at least consider going fae, arasai or kerra just for the speed boost now that the IC pvp speed is being normalised. Personally I'm just tired of staring at the back of a blue/black bald euridite head while out blue shiny whoring. Ah well, I guess I'll just invest in some froglok and ratonga bones or something and just use the illusion forms.

BTW to all you scouts out there, your anguish sustains me. <3

Nevermind all of the things I read above. What it comes down to is how "fair" it would be. I mean seriously. Some classes are just that much easier to get groups with, solo with, shoot harder to play in the traditional sense...

For me to work my tail off to get to 70 on a class like that and the have someone completely make a mockery of my accomplishments by taking the time to level up, learn my class, etc... by simply making a request to change to this other class that'd [Removed for Content] me off.

It wouldn't be fair. Part of the pride that comes from this game for people is the fact that they leveled THAT toon as THAT class... something that was theirs and unique.

If you want to turn into a different class, it's called the "Exchange Server" go over there, spend a few bucks, presto! you're a different class ...

See the logic? IMO it's a stupid idea on any other server than exchange, that'd hurt this game in so many ways.

This was an idea that might provide an option for someone who doesn't have a lot of time to play and wants to enjoy their class. If someone has spent a lot of time and/ or effort into their class and doesn't have time to grind another toon up to 70, why not give them the option of changing their class, at a price of course, say, 20% taken from their levels and AA, all gear and spells gone. I didn't make this thread to be told that I'm just wanting a way out of my class, since I wouldn't change my class even if this idea was implemented.
